February 4, 2018
New adventure starts today with the Stress Killer Automatic. This time I’ll be trying coco. It’s gonna be fun. I’ll use a 16L air-pot with about 30% (or even more) perlite as well. Stay tuned!
On February 4 (5:30pm) I planted the seed in a small RQS starter kit pot.
On February 7 at 12am it sprouted. Like after only 2 days! Today I’ve also transplanted the seedling in its final pot and put it under one 33W COB LED for the moment.
Recap from last week: sprout, transplant in her final 16L air-pot full of coco and perlite, moved under one 36W led lamp, then switched with my 33W COB led.
This week is starting on February 12, 2018 (day 8 from seed, day 6 from sprout), with the first nutrients intake, given at 1ml/L. I’m using AN Connoisseur Grow A+B formula, adding B-52 (vitamins) and Voodoo Juice (root stimulator). I’m gonna give 0.5L every day, splitted into 250ml in the morning and 250ml in the evening, watering only around the seedling. Next week I think I’ll increase the water amount, as well as nutrients dosage.
The run-off is still very low, with this small amount of water, so I’m not measuring it for the moment.
Heya everybody!
Coco coir is an extraordinary medium. I’m still giving 500ml every day (divided into 250ml in the morning and 250ml in the evening), with nutrients in it. She loves it. I don’t know why there’s one leaf curled up, but the others look good, so no worries. Maybe it’s something related to the COB LED, which is too powerful at that distance. Only time will tell. This week, by the way, I’m increasing the nutrients dosage from 1ml/L to 2ml/L, as she’s getting bigger. Next week will definitely increase the daily water amount as well.
On day 16 I topped the plant. On day 18 I started with a light LST session.
Day 20: one thing I noticed is that there are two branches that come from topping of day 16, and two more smaller branches that should’t be there. I think some FIMming happened here. It should be related to the fact that I topped when the third node was not totally developed. The leaves I removed were really hard to remove, as they were very small and merged one into each other. Let’s see if these two new branches will be strong enough like the other two.
Looking strange, uh? It’s normal at this stage. Branches are getting longer and leaves are like merged up one into each other because they are many, at the same level, and can’t get enough space. But it’s just a graphical issue 😜
Last week I had some problems with some curled up leaves. It was a VPD related problem. High temperature, low humidity. This caused leaves to hide their surface from light in order to keep the humidity level steady. Now, with an added humidifier just right there, RH is 70%, she's feeling great, and same for her leaves.
Day 22: Pulling down branches on the second node (to reinforce the LST), I made a cut just where they’re plugged into the stem. You can see it on the last photo of this day. I think she'll handle these cuts like she would with two cropped branches.
Day 23: I added two more 18W LED lights (2700K) on two sides to help the two lower branches become longer and push higher.
Day 24: Better LST (cables) on branches on the top.
Day 26: Fixing the LST day by day, as leaves become bigger and cover lower branches. I cropped those two small branches that came out from topped area in the middle. I was lucky because the top created 4 branches instead of two, though the extra two are a bit weaker than the others.
Day 27: Cropped the main two topped branches in order to wait for lower branches to grow a little more and better organize the final structure of the plant.
Day 28: Cropped again on 3rd node branches, and same on 2nd and 1st nodes branches, plus some LST.
Day 29: She’s growing fast now. I’m trying to keep her short with continuous LST. I think I saw the first pre-flower on day 28.
Day 30: There were too many leaves, so I did a huge defoliation to free up lower branches.
Day 31: She reacted in the best way possible to the defoliation. Look at the amazing growth from 4:30AM to 11AM. 😜 Later that day I did a SUPER CROPPING (hyper would be better) on EVERY branch I could see. I know, that’s a crazy, fool, move, but if I don’t do stuff like this I’m not happy. Many hearts for you, lovely Stress Killer. I know you hate me now, but it’s for your best interests!
Day 32: Recovering from super cropping.
Day 33: Almost totally recovered, creating new branches, strengthening existing ones and showing new pre-flowers. Veery nice!
Amazing stretch last week, but it’s still not enough. After day 36 defoliation, the plant has started putting many energies on branch development. As a result, in the night between day 36 and 37 she created many pistils and increased leaves number on every branch. It’s interesting how main branches have fattened up on cropped points. As you can see on the photos, some of them are huge!
Day 36: made some defoliation because lower branches were covered by leaves! Light penetration is now optimal.
Day 38: another huge cropping on every branch I could find, even on lower ones. EVERY SINGLE BRANCH, snapped!
Welcome back buds!
This week I added Big Bud to the nutes mix. On day 44 I did a huge defoliation because lower colas were covered by 2 layers of leaves. The plant is doing good, and you can clearly see how many colas she has now. All that hard training is now giving some results! She’s still stretching thanks to her Lemon Haze genetics.
On day 45 I moved her in the grow room and increased daily amount of solution from 1L to 1.5L.
Welcome back!
Wow, she’s loving coco coir and AN nutes. Look at the leaves: pointing up to the sky. Meaning that she’s feeling so good. This week I stopped with Voodoo Juice, Tarantula and Piranha, and added back B-52 (stopped with last week of veg), plus Nirvana. As soon as I moved her in the grow room, all the run-off solution started evaporating and I needed to increase the daily amount of solution from 1L to 1.5L. This helped me a lot because now I don’t have to think about run-off anymore. This week I’m adding an automated watering system, which I’ll show in a video, because next week I’ll be away from home and need this baby to be continuously watered and fed up.
On day 52 I added an automated watering system and set it to give her 0.5L 6 times every day. So, 3L of solution every day (before day 52 it was 1.5L every day), in order to get that 30% run-off.
On day 53 I did a “mass” defoliation on the top, in order to uncover lower flowers. There were so many leaves covering them.
On day 55 I increased Sensi Cal-Mag Xtra from 1ml/L to 2ml/L and added Rhino Skin with 2ml/L.
I’m back! Wow, she’s looking so good and every bud is at the same distance from LED panel. That automatic watering system worked pretty well and did its job properly while I was out. Today I increased daily amount of solution becuase there’s no more run-off on the bottom. She’s drinking so much!! Buds are growing well and I can see some orange pistils already. Sugar leaves are developing as well and are already covered by trichomes. Will soon add Overdrive and stop with Big Bud! Stay tuned!
Hello GD! Buds are getting bigger, but not as big as I hoped. This Stress Killer still has two weeks to go, so I’m crossing my fingers. She’s showing some overfeeding on some leaves, but that’s because she stored so many salts when I was on vacation due to lack ogni run-off water. She’s feeling well now, by the way! Next week will be the last with feedings, then 7 days with just Flawless Finish, and we should be done. Yay! Can’t wait to start another cycle. See you next week ✈️
Flush! I wanted to give her nutes for the entire week, but I stopped on Wednesday because she started looking almost done. Flush is done with just PH adjusted (5.8) tap water. Didn’t add Flawless Finish this time. I also did a huge defoliation with both fan and sugar leaves that obscured lower buds. She seems like another plant now! Some more days (trichs still not ready) and we’ll be ready. 😜
Will be harvesting today or tomorrow. After one week of flush, I stopped every watering since the start of this week. Now there’s less water inside the pot, and I can definitely feel it by moving it around. Buds are visibly bigger now! See you soon for the final harvest!
This plant is the result of everything I learned since I signed up on Grow Diaries. Autoflowering strain, topping, cropping, LST, coco coir, automatic watering system. That was pretty fun, but also hard to do. It was hard because, as an auto, she had a pre-defined life cycle, and all that training had to be made with not enough recovering time between sessions. By the way, I got a big surprise here. Until the last defoliation I couldn’t see how many buds I got there. And I didn’t expect those buds could increase their size that much in just a week. This time I even did a proper flush and let the medium dry up before harvesting. Because of the size of the plant, I had to split harvest into 3 days. But look what I got: 133.2 grams! I’m so happy about this result. I was expecting something like 70 grams, but I doubled that value! Since I tried some buds from the net, it should be even more than this, though.
This strain is a new generation auto from Royal Queen Seeds. It’s not one of the old ones with 30% ruderalis like many of their other auto strains (I think they should update them decreasing ruderalis percentage), and I have to say that it’s a very strong one. Nutes resistant, or even nutes lover. Will even love hard training. I messed up with the PPM since I had no time to manage it properly, and I got a little overfeeding in the last weeks, as soon as I added Overdrive to the reservoir. What I mean is that PPM has been over 4000 for like all the cycle, following Advanced Nutrients dosage (4ml/L of Connoisseur A+B and 2ml/L of all the other additives). That’s the kind of strength I’m talking about. It was my first time managing irrigations with a reservoir and a water pump, and I think it’s been a life changing experience. It allowed me to save much time, and helped me going on vacation for 10 days with almost no worries (just some salts accumulation in the pot during those days as she started sucking a lot of water, not allowing runoff to come out anymore). That system helps you, but you still have to be there. Because coco coir is good, but it requires a proper maintenance.
The Stress Killer Automatic is a mix of Lemon Haze and Juanita La Lagrimosa. She doesn’t smell like lemon, but she definitely has a sweet, candy-like taste. She reminded me of the AK47 auto from RQS I tried some years ago.
Talking about the effect, I think this strain does exactly what they say about it. I mean, you smoke, wait some minutes, and start feeling light in the head. It’s a bit stronger than other CBD strains I’ve tried, and even if you can feel a bit of indica on it, Stress Killer is much more on the sativa side. It’s not so strong, so you can do whatever you wanna do, but if you vape it, just don’t go over 185C or you’ll start feeling a bit groggy. 200C is the best temperature to get everything it has to offer, but for daytime I prefer 180C or 185C. By the way it works nice to help you take life less seriously, and help positive thoughts flowing in your head. But, as always, weed is not a remedy against problems. If you’re a bit stressed, that’s ok and it works great, but if you have bigger problems, I think weed can’t do much to help you solve them. Higher THC strains will even do worse in case of bad trips.
In general I’m so happy about this strain. It’s not the best one I’ve tried to do activities (Royal Highness, to me, with her clear mind experience, is definitely the best one out there), but that’s very nice to relax after work or an intense activity, or just to remove some light stresses coming from discussions or some negative thoughts/overthinking. Thank you Royal Queen Seeds, and especially @James!
First coco grow from start to finish. It’s been fun! Make sure to follow my new diary with the legendary Silver Haze from Sensi Seeds. This time I’ll try ScrOG for the first time, with two months veg and three long months of bloom 😉
@TOTEM, Nice! I'm not as careful when it comes to Autos and training as many people say you should be! (Just look at the wide variety of training I've done on my current grows!) I think its partly because I just cant seem to help myself from touching my Ladies 😉 My favorite YouTube grower Mr. Canucks Grow only uses Coco and his Gals turn out insane!! I'm gonna eventually make a run with Coco too just to see what the hype is all about!!
@BudKingsGrow, Uh thank you bro! Well let’s see, it’s an auto, so not many techniques available, but I’ve just topped my CBD Crack and it worked. I could do it again! And, yes, this time I’m trying coco coir for the first time ✌️
@TOTEM, @James, RQS Has some of the best GDs on here, and I hear nothing but good about them! And with your experience growing their genetics, This will be amazing! Are you going to try anything different this grow?
@SKELETOR, You gave me a good idea with defoliation! I did the same, and, as you can see, she loved it 😉 I had to, because there were lot of leaves covering lower branches. Thank you for the good advice!
@TOTEM, great you got it sorted out! Your plant seems to be doing well, I will be following you daily to see all updates. I gave my stress killer a samalla defoliation yesterday to expose new branches to more light. Seemed to like it, branches are shooting towards lights :)
@SKELETOR, Hey bro. Yes, I spotted the problem: it’s a VPD related problem. High temperature and low humidity. Leaves are curling because they’re trying to keep the humidity by not exposing too much of their surface to the light. Now that I placed the humidifier near the plant (with a constant 70% RH), they’re turning normal again. I hope this helps! Cheers 🍸
What's your secret for getting light penetration so low? You're using LEDs right? If I don't lollipop, I tend to get larfy buds at the bottom. I just recently updated my lighting to 1200w and 1500w LEDs (two separate tents), and I think I noticed a difference.
Any thoughts? Awesome job here, btw. Super impressive!! 👊
@@Chi_Town_White_Boy, Thank you bud! Well I have this 384W led panel (blue and red lights), plus a 30W cob which has a very strong light penetration because of its 60 degree lens. Then I used two 36W blue red led bulbs placed under the pot, as you can see, and maybe they helped with lower colas. Sometimes the approximate yield is defined by the genetics of the strain too, so it’s a mix of factors, and not only the light penetration. 👊💪
Fantastic grow diary mate, what a plant! Lost count trying to count colas.
Once I get a couple of autos under my belt I would like to try some of the techniques you've detailed so thoroughly. Especially interested in your comments about the Royal Highness.
Amazing work!!
@outdoorsman, thanks so much mate! I changed my mind about my favorite CBD strain lately. After many smoke sessions, I think Dance World is more pleasant and more fun 😉
@biggreens420, Nice to see you again buddy! It’s been a while!! Sorry for the late reply but I’ve been very busy lately. Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad you liked this project! 👊
