Week 1 Veg WE HAVE TWINS! 🌰🌱🌱 I won one bean of this strain at Product Earth 2017 a few months before its release and have ended up with two plants! Haha. I had suspicions when I noticed two tap roots poke out on germination but decided to put them in coco nonetheless. Two seedlings soon sprouted so instead of letting one bully the other to death I thought I'd try to seperate them! The operation was a complete success, with both twins surviving! I had to gently remove the smaller twins root from the other as the fine root hairs had caused them to stick together. It wasn't easy but I managed to do it without snapping or damaging either of them and simply transplanted the smaller twin into her new home. This will be an interesting one bean pheno hunt! 😂 The bigger girl (Twin1) took off quicker than Twin2 as expected, so her cup was backfilled and she was given her first nutrient feed on Day 6. Although she's bigger, she seems to have a bit of a mutation going on, we'll see how it progresses next week. Hopefully it won't affect her growth too much. Twin2 didn't have much of a stretch and was getting hungry and needed a bit more light, so I decided to carefully take her out, fill her cup and then put her back in on Day 7. She was then given her first nutrient feed. Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out and seeing how different these two phenos are. Make sure to check out the last pics to see close ups of Twin1's mutation. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 2 Veg Definitely an interesting week for the Eleven Roses Twins. I decided to top the weird mutant leaf on Twin1 as she couldn't grow her next node and progress in her growth. My plan paid off as she seems to have started growing two new, normal shoots! 👍 hopefully she doesn't grow any more mutant leaves to affect her growth, otherwise she'll be killed off. I thought Twin2 was a perfectly normal little seedling but it turns out she's a mutant too! Although this girl seems to be growing her next node so I'll be leaving her for now to see how she gets on. If she has issues I'll be topping her too to try and produce two normal shoots, like Twin1. All nutrients were increased slightly, with the base nutrients gradually changing towards a ratio of 3:2:1 (G:M:B). I've also added activated/stretched EM1 into my garden. This will simply add more beneficial microbial life into the coco. These will then help make more nutrients in the coco available for the plants roots to uptake. Since adding, my whole garden has seemed even happier and generally more healthier. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 3 Veg Both seedlings are doing great and looking very healthy. They're now both on full strength veg feed, with base nutrients ratio at 3:2:1 (G:M:B). Liquid Silicon and Epsom salts are now being added to their feed. Honey and unsulphured molasses is also being added, to feed the microbes some sugars. I was hoping to have them transplanted by day 20 but I couldn't find the time to get myself down to the hydro shop! Although, with the stress that these two have both been through at the start, a few more days won't hurt. I'll probably end up using the 3ltr pots I have at hand, but I'll be changing to a slightly bigger 2nd pot in future. The topping has worked perfectly on Twin1, her new growth is completely normal so all is well with her now. Her first leaf set was accidently sprayed when I was spraying the clone dome, hence the burn spots. All newer growth is perfectly fine so no issues or worries. Twin2 is an interesting girl, she's been growing one leaf'd nodes up until her 5th node, which seems to finally be two symmetrical leaves. I think this will be the node I top down to as she's grown out of her funk. Although, if you look carefully at the latest pics, you'll notice her lower growth also seems mutated (one leaf nodes, single leaf sets etc.) The one bean pheno hunt continues! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 4 Veg The mutant twins were transplanted into 3ltr pots this week. I was hoping to get slightly bigger pots (again 😒) but unfortunately I still haven't had time to get them.. These will still be ok but the girls will just need watering sooner, as their feet will fill their shoes quicker, so to speak. Both twins have nice healthy white roots, more so Twin1 as expected. They were topped the next day, this being the first topping for Twin2 as she's finally produced two normal, paired leaf nodes. Both are doing great and praying all day. From here it'll be a bit of LST work and a couple more toppings before going into flower. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 5 Veg The Eleven Roses mutant twins are doing great. Both looking very happy and healthy, but I think twin2 is slightly ahead. But that's mainly because twin1 had to be topped on her first node. I hadn't even realised at the time, but it turns out that I FIM'd one of the two tops on twin1 when I topped her. It's not something I usually attempt but I'm not complaining! 😂 Twin2 was also topped and bent over slightly just to let the lower growth meet the top of the canopy. This girl's turning into a beautiful bush, and I also think her leaves smell stronger and more fruity. They'll both soon be transplanted into their finishing pots, as soon as I have the space. I've also changed Cal-Mag as this is the only stuff my hydro shop stocks now. It seems a little watery and isn't as concentrated as the growth tech Cal-Mag, but it seems to be working well and all my girls are happy so no complaints so far. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 6 Veg At the start of the week these girls were both given a good maintenance flush. While in their 3ltr pots, I only flushed approx 6ltr of water and EM1 @ 5.80pH through each pot. This was enough to bring the coco's salt build-up down to 100ppm or less. After doing this, they were both immediately given a full strength veg feed. The purpose of giving a maintenance flush every 4 weeks or so is crucial when using synthetic/salt based nutrients. Without doing this, the coco and the plants' roots themselves will create an unwanted salt build up. Once this has happened, some/all nutrients will be locked out completely whilst the pH of the coco can also rise. At the end of the week the two twins were transplanted into their final pots; 4gal Smart Pots. The main reason I use fabric pots is because they not only air prune the roots to prevent root circling, but they tend to dry out a lot quicker than plastic pots too. I see this as a huge advantage in flower, as you can technically feed your girls more times within 6 weeks (or however long before you flush). This is also a great advantage for the flushing period too, because when flushing huge amounts of water through the pots, they normally take even longer to dry out. But when using fabric pots they don't! So you're able to flush your girls more times within 2-3 weeks, giving them a better and quicker flush. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 7 Veg No changes this week for these two, other than growth. Both of these twins have turned into stunning rose bushes 🌹 I'd say Twin1 is the winner in Veg as she's got a perfect short and bushy structure with great side branching too. Twin2 also has good side branching but she's a slightly taller, stretchier plant. As I mentioned in last week's update, one of the reasons I use fabric pots is because they air prune the roots. You can see a perfect example of this from Twin1, with her root tips poking through the sides of the smart pot. They also grow through the bottom too. This is to prevent the roots from forever circling the pot. I've also included pics of the two clones I took from these girls, but only one will become the keeper. I only cut one clone from each twin as I'm getting 100% success rate with riot rooters, clonex and the good ol' clone dome. After 10 days from being cut, Twin1 has the most roots but both are ready to be transplanted into cups. It's important for me to keep these two alive until I've chosen the keeper pheno, otherwise I will have lost the best/both pheno's. It's also the only bean I had of this strain so I'll be keeping a mother plant for as long as I enjoy her! These girls will be vegged for a week longer at the most before going into the flower tent! I'm looking forward to seeing these two in full bloom 🌹 Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 8 Veg 11R The two twins are doing great. This week they've just been left to veg and get thicker/stronger before going into flower. Twin2 is slightly taller, but both are nice bushes. They were thrown into the flower tent on day 55 veg/day 0 flower. Hopefully we'll see a noticeable difference throughout flower to make it interesting 🌹 Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 1 Flower The twins are finally in flower and looking extremely happy and healthy. They were thrown into flower on day 55 veg (day 0 flower). They we're lollipopped towards the end of the week, on day 6. I also pinch the tops of the main stems of each branch that is growing taller than the rest, to slow it down. This not only allows the other tops to keep up, but it will also thicken the stem and make the branch stronger. Their base nutrients were changed to a 1:1:1 (G:M:B) ratio throughout transition. Silicon is increased while they're stretching, as they are growing at a much faster rate. Cal-Mag and Epsom Salts were also increased slightly, and will be kept at this level until they're stopped later in flower. You can clearly see the difference in structure between these two pheno's, now they're in flower. Unexpectedly, Twin2 hasn't stretched as much as Twin1 in this early stage in stretch, and is sidebranching like mad. With that being said, I think Twin1 is looking slightly better and a more beautiful plant. Time will tell... 🌹 Slo Mo vid of Twin1 on Day 7 📽️ Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 2 Flower Both twins are looking very healthy, and are now showing clear differences in their structures after 2 weeks flower. Twin1 has beautiful big leaves and is becoming the taller girl, but she still has a nice strong structure with thick stems. Twin2 has slowed down her stretch more than her sister, and has shorter node spacing too. With that being the case they both have their own pro's going into week 3. Either one could still be the winner, there's a long way to go yet! They were both given another leaf strip and a slightly higher lollipop later in the week to slow their stretch down, and increase light penetration. Their base nutrients will be changed towards the bloom ratio now they're slowing their stretch and producing calyxs. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 3 Flower Both girls are looking great this week, flowering very well already and starting to frost up. At the start of the week the twins were given a maintenance flush @5.9pH to remove any excess build up in salts. It's important to top up with a new nutrient feed straight after, as the coco has been flushed of it's nutrients and the girls are starting to build calyxs and come into full flower mode. Their feed was gradually changed to the full bloom feed above, with a 1:2:3 G:M:B ratio by the end of the week. Silicon has been decreased now they've finished their main stretch and flowering. The pH has also been increased very slightly to 6pH. Hope you enjoy the photo's! 🌹🌹 Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 4 Flower The twins are looking happy and healthy. Their nutrients are the same this week, apart from molasses being increased now they're frosting up well. This feeds the microbes, which in turn break the sugars down to make available to the plant. Silicon was stopped on day 28 as it's the hardest nutrient to flush from the plant completely. Not much to update this week apart from the photo's. Looking forward to the next update! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 5 Flower Sorry for the late update guys, I hadn't realised I missed this week! Will upload week 6 tomorrow or the next day to give people a chance to see this one. This week the girls have been started on their PK booster, Ripen. I found it's better to use this when they're really starting to build calyxs, rather than the last week before flush. Don't be fooled by the name, it's simply a PK booster and should used as one, not something to only speed up ripening as I've seen from others. Silicon was stopped by day 28 to ensure it's completely flushed by the end of her cycle. Cal-Mag will be stopped by day 35. They've both carried on thickening and frosting up very well. It's a very close race so far. Twin2 does have slightly smaller buds that didn't seem very dense, but as the days go by she looks to be thickening up nicely. She's also slightly more appealing to me in her aroma, although that can change throughout flush, harvesting, drying and curing. She has more heavily stacked cola's than her sister too, so even if her flowers aren't quite as big or dense, she may be the winner... But it's still early days. It's hard to say just yet as Twin1 clearly has bigger, denser nugs that also have a great scent. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 6 Flower This week the girls' feed has been decreased considerably as they no longer need a high feeding. Everything apart from FloraBloom has been stopped in order to give her a proper flush (apart from microbes and sugars). With the Pineapple Kush I fed a little bit of floramicro too, but it's high in N so it took a little longer to flush. I want my plants to be as faded as possible within 2 weeks. If I feel it's necessary I'll take them further to get a better flush. Both Twins are looking fantastic. It's hard to believe that these two were not only twins, but were both mutants with not much hope of survival on their own. Twin1 was a mutant that couldn't grow its second node, and Twin2 was the smallest of the two twin seedlings meaning she had almost 0 chance of surviving without being carefully seperated (she also had minor mutant growth). Many people say the weaker one will be dominated so they don't bother to seperate them. But if you ask me, I couldn't tell you at this point which plant would be classed as the "weaker plant". I have no regrets in doing so and think I have two very worthy keeper pheno's of this strain. Next week we start flush! 💦 Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 7 Flower Let the Flush commence! 💦 Both girls started flush on Day 41. Twin2 is definitely finishing sooner than Twin1, but as they've both been tested the same, they'll both be taken down on the same day after a 14+ day flush. We're having a rise in heat in my area so it's interesting to see how each pheno reacts. Twin2 seems to be showing slightly more heat stress, by shooting a few fox tails, but at this size it's only a good thing 😉 I've also only just found a new trait being expressed on both twins, but much more consistently on Twin1, and that's the double serrated leaves you can see in the photo's. It doesn't mean or affect anything, it just a cool trait 🍁 I run approx 30+ltr water through each pot each time they're flushed. Before doing so I check the ppm and pH value of the run off from each pot and take records. To do this, I gently pour a few litres in the centre of the pot until a sufficient amount has drained into the tray below. This can then be tested with your TDS/EC pen and pH pen. I still use Activated EM1 (EMA) throughout flush at 1ml/ltr because microbes are always a benefit. Once stretched/activated it goes a very long way so if I don't use it throughout flush, then it may go over it's 6-8week shelf life. They're both looking great and still filling up. Both twins are coated in trichomes and have their own distinctive smells. They both smell very floral; Twin2 smells a lot sweeter, but Twin1 has a more earthy, almost gassy kind of smell to her that's just as nice. These girls are definitely not making my choice any easier yet! Looking forward to seeing them fade. Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

Week 8 Flower The last week of flush for these two. They were taken down on Day 56, after a 16 Day flush. I think Twin2 could have finished at 7 weeks, but of course I hadn't planned for this, or I would have flushed sooner. So she was taken to the originally planned 8 weeks. Twin2 has also foxtailed quite a bit, from only slightly higher temps and also because she's having a last attempt at catching any pollen in order to reproduce. Although the pots were slightly damp still when I harvested, it is best to take them down when they're dry. The only reason I didn't, was because I knew I'd be too busy the next day, and there were plants in veg that were desperate to be thrown into the flower tent! The pics do make them look wetter than they were though. Their fan leaves were taken off and they were each hung in seperate boxes, where they'll dry as slowly as possible for between 6-10 days. I dont suffer with very high humidity, so I'm able to do this without any issues. When I feel it is too humid, I simply burp the box for the first day or 2 once a day. The slower the dry the better the buds will taste/smell. Once she's dry enough she'll be trimmed and jarred for curing. It's going to be a pretty tough one for keeper pheno! They both have similar but very different smells. By that I mean, they both smell very floral and sweet, but T2 smells extra sweet (although definitely not as dense). That doesn't mean T1 doesn't smell just as nice. Hers buds are thicker and more dense, so even though I've favourited T2 in the pics, I think I'm leaning towards T1 still. But in all honesty it's still down to dry weight and the taste test! This can all be looked forward to in the harvest update! It's been a seriously fun diary with these two twins. I'm definitely glad I separated them. Do you think you'll attempt to separate them after seeing my experience? Please let me know! Thanks for following and happy growing! 🐺

My first twin bean. I immediately knew I was going to attempt to seperate them, so that's exactly what I did, and with no regrets! Both of these girls were literally the opposite of each other, both in veg and flower. Twin1 was the shorter plant in veg, but stretched the most in flower. She still only had an average stretch, but Twin2 hardly stretched much even though she seemed taller in veg. Both pheno's are very sweet in smell and flavour; Twin1 is like sugary sweet berries in taste with a very slight floral tone, whereas Twin2 is also sweet, but the floral taste is more overpowering. T2 has a nice spice to her too. It's hard to say which is the favourite as they have similar but very different tastes. They're both completely different in bud structure too; Twin1 is the winner here, as she's far more dense. Even though Twin2 produced more flowers and more weight, she wasn't as dense lower down, and suffered from some crazy foxtails due to slightly higher temps and was taken a bit further than she wanted to go. These girls were easy to grow, had great structures and are very pungent and flavourful. A pleasure to have in the Den 🐺

Thank you to everyone who has been following, commenting and liking each week, it's always appreciated. This was very different, but an extremely fun journey! I've definitely learned a thing or two from my experience with these mutant twins, so I hope some of you have too. I hope this diary gives more people confidence in separating them and also the proof that the smaller twin CAN be a worthy contender for keeper pheno! Twin1 dry weight - 47g Twin2 dry weight - 53g Because I have 4 seperate plants/strains in one tent, under one light, I've had to calculate these by dividing the conditions by 2 (4 plants in total sharing same conditions, 2 being 11R's). This is the fairest and only way to work it out properly. Happy growing! 🐺

I saw this grow on your IG when you were thinking about the split. i think its a good call. in my experience when kept in same pot they only grow about 1/2 size what they would seperated (two small plants sharing 1 pot vs 2 large plants in same sized but seperate pots, root competition etc leads to one showing as male/herm in some of my friends experience with twins not seperated). I must say i'm jealous you have the steady hand to make it happen I need to ask for gfs help with the finer stuff since my hands are so shakey from arthritis. following now, excited to see progress here with all the data 😁

Thanks @Jack_Greenstalk ✌️ I completely agree mate, that's exactly why I went for it. From what I've seen in the past from other growers, the smaller twin is either a runt throughout and herms, just like you mentioned, or dies off competely. At least this way they both have a fighting chance and are competing to be the keeper pheno! Haha I'm a carpenter so I fancied my chances 😉 cheers! ✌️🐺

Looking forward to seeing the harvest I'm thinking of trying one of those cfm they bring out the colour well and been told they produce best terpines
TheFoxFarmer
TheFoxFarmercommented7 years ago
@biggreens420, that would be perfect mate 👌👍 there's also that new 600w ceramic HPS that's in the US, so I think I'll wait on the ceramic tech to calm down and become more readily available. I reckon I'll give the 600w HPS a go and bare with the hotter temps. Atm the 315 doesn't take the tent any hotter than 82 on the hottest of days, so hopefully my fans are enough as they are! 🐺
biggreens420
biggreens420commented7 years ago
@TheFoxFarmer,yeah I'm thinking of putting one inbetween 2 leds in the big tent as hps is getting too hot like u say and iv only seen the maxibright 315 ones so far and there not cheap so the 630 will cost a bit but definitely looking into it
TheFoxFarmer
TheFoxFarmercommented7 years ago
@biggreens420, nice one mate ✌️ yeah, the CMH definitely brings the winter colours out very well. And the full spectrum apparently does increase terpene levels, but in all honesty it's not a very powerful light. I'd recommend getting a 630w DE CMH as they have a better area coverage and also penetrate a lot more. But they're not cheap, so I'm still looking at upgrading to a 600w HPS but uncertain what the temps will be now it's warming right up ✌️🐺

Beautiful rose flowers ;) those are going to make for some nice medicine, that's for sure. I've had twins before, if I keep them indoors, I separate them, if they go out I might leave them together
TheFoxFarmer
TheFoxFarmercommented7 years ago
@bobo420, I agree mate. I don't think Twin2 would have stood much chance if I left them. I've only ever seen the big twin dominate and kill off the smaller twins from others' experiences ✌️🐺
bobo420
bobo420commented7 years ago
@TheFoxFarmer, yeah, if you leave them, you need to have a lot of space for both root masses. Indoors it's best to try and separate them.
TheFoxFarmer
TheFoxFarmercommented7 years ago
Cheers @bobo420 ✌️ this was a first for me. I'm glad I separated them 🐺

@bobo420, nice one mate. If these impress then I'll probably be getting the sugar black rose too, although Eleven Roses is supposed to be the superior offspring. It'd be nice to compare the two in future ✌️🐺

Wow Fox you got some incredibly gorgeous flowers out of this grow! Easily as beautiful as any rose in the garden.🌹🥀🌱
TheFoxFarmer
TheFoxFarmercommented6 years ago
@Experimentgreen, thank you very much 🙏 and no, it's simply because it's easier in a small veg tent, and pretty much impossible to run a HID in my veg tent. I do need to get a more powerful light for veg though. As soon as I change the room around I may use the 315w cmh for veg 💪✌️🦊

hi when you said crazy foxtail did she grow a extra bud on top off her cola with loads off pistols right near the end shes a very fast strain got a week left all bottom buds are done its just the top extra bud and cola thats setting me back ps fantastic grow i learn a lot from you grow shes a monster
TheFoxFarmer
TheFoxFarmercommented7 years ago
@smartstick, hi mate, thank you very much ✌️ My #2 did want to finish earlier, but suffered from foxtails due to the heat more than anything. My #1 didn't have any foxtails and grew more of a normal bud structure and density. Foxtails are called as such because they look like fox tails coming out of your bud. It's just extra calyx growth that can sometimes be a very good thing in small amounts as it can increase yeild considerably. It's not good to have really big foxtails though, as it can make trimming a longer and harder task, and also the new calyx's and their trichomes won't be as mature as the rest of the bud ✌️👊🐺
the end.
