Day 43, pH is at 6.0 currently. Plants are praying towards the light so that’s a good sign. Some spots still show up on a couple leaves, just a couple small spots, could still be adjusting. Will know in another day or so if the problem has been corrected or not. Day 44, they seem to be responding better to the change in nutrients. They’re eating and still putting on growth. Some spots are appearing but that’s probably just still an affect of last weeks overload. Day 45, PPMs have continued decreasing and they have consumed about 1.5 gals of water over the past 72 hours. I topped off their res a little bit and readjust pH to 5.9 (it rose to 6.6 because they’re consuming a lot of nutrients) Day 47, Nutrients was almost gone, changed nutrients and bumped up to 800PPM (0.5 scale) Day 48, the nutrient solution inside the buckets gets up to 78-79° by the end of the day (lights on). When lights go off, they drop down to about 70-72°. I built some insulation sleeves out of double layer bubble foil. Should insulated them enough to maintain their lower temp without increasing throughout the day. You can see in photos but in the video I also created tops for each of the buckets to help reflect light and heat from the buckets. Day 49, plants are doing great PPMs are staying pretty stable meaning they have about the perfect ratio of nutrients which is 815PPM currently. Insulating the buckets was a great idea it’s kept the res temps stable and stopped them from rising throughout the day! Today marks day 14 of flower.

The fan leaves on one of my plants are getting yellowish spots. I noticed it yesterday and checked the pH and I was at 5.0. I corrected it to 6.0 and 24 hrs later still 6.0 but some of the larger leaves are starting to show yellowish spots as well?

Hey buddy,I think that yellow spots mean Calcium deficiency.Cal and Mag are not available much in lower pH range. As I can see you are using pH perfect nute, I think you should change your res.

So plant #1 is still having some Calcium deficiency issues. I’m using RO water and giving the recommended dose of CaliMagic which is 1tsp(5ml)/gal. I’m in DWC and using LED full spectrum lighting. Why can’t I stop these spots? Should I give more than recommended dose of CaliMagic

I'll elaborate what messes with a lot of people is that there is actually and excess of calcium and almost all cal mag formulas are formulated with nitrogen for Transportation except 1 that I know of.. Anyway Cal-Mag is gathering dust on my shelf.. I grow everything all strains with a lot of intense led light...

Hey hey I think they are looking much better. But your still set on the Cal-Mag try running without it altogether trust me.. Your Trio series from AN will do much better with just the three then with it. Your calcium intake has not really been reduced at all..... Keep in mind the spots are actually being caused by an "excess" of calcium..

@DeadwebsiteBoringcommunity, so I only have two plants on the Advanced Nutrients Trio. They also showed signs of Calcoum Deficiency but the added CalMag has stopped the spread thus far. I think I finally got my ratios down. My other two plants (one being the most effected) are on FloraFlex which is a synthetic salt based nutrients. I ended up changing CalMag brands and talked to a guy at a local hydro shop. This CalMag seems to be doing better. I tried cutting it out on the two with AN but they started showing a deficiency so they definitely need it even not being in coco

@Cali_Grown_420, The Trio Formula from Advanced nutrients has ph balancing agents in it... You could most likely cut out the cal-mag.. But don't take my word for it. Trust your gut... I ended up buying some Pro-cal from Green Planet Nutrients just in case, I get something like this. I am experiencing more problem in the micros towards the middle so I am by no means an "expert" on this topic.. But the idea of adding cal-mag is absolutely tied into Coco growing and doesn't really lend itself that well to Hydroponics.. I mean honestly I lean towards the cleanest, lightest possible flowers I can get... So I'd rather be a bit light on the nutrients then go overboard. And by light I mean smooth not weight wise ha ha.

@DeadwebsiteBoringcommunity, only reason I still use a small CalMag in my water is only for FloraFlex and I bring my PPMs up to 100-150 then add my nutrients. I don’t want to use my tap water because it really not good at all. And this is only because it’s direct instruction from FloraFlex

@Fast_Buds, happy to be growing some of your guys genetics. Seen nothing but good things grown with your genetics. Do you guys have any PPM or EC recommendations for these girls? I’m going to be running Advanced Nutrients starting at 1/4 strength. But I’m also using FloraFlex on two of the plants. Manufacturer recommends an EC of 1.6 or about 800ppm on .5 conversion scale. Wondering if that would be okay or if I should tone it down a notch? Do you know of any growers who have used your genetics with FloraFlex?

So I am running my pH between 5.8-6.3. I’m in DWC, I upped the CalMag and I feel like it got worse. I change their res with fresh water and nutes weekly. Tomorrow I have to change the res again I’m going to put very little CalMag. I’m if I remember correctly this may have started when I started increasing the amount of CalMag I was using. The nutrients I use as Cal and Mag in it already. We will see what happens when I lesson and not increase it.
Cali_Grown_420
Cali_Grown_420commentedweek 64 years ago
The nutrients I use specifically states of using RO water to add just a little CalMag just to use as a buffer. But I’ve been adding close to full dose according to the CalMag bottle. I’m gunna use less Or none and see what happens.

You usually don't need any calmag until around week 3. But on your hydro plants they will need nutrients. I start feeding mine 1/4 strength dose on day 3. Good luck!

Cali_Grown_420commented4 years ago
@Wicked_Stix, ah okay that makes sense. I’m going to be using two types of nutrients. Advanced Nutrients MGB (hobbyist additives) and FloraFlex. I was planning on doing the whole grow with AN but when I realized how much more expensive it was gonna be I decided I was going to try out FloraFlex as well as it was more affordable. Going to do 2 plants with each. But my plan is to just use FloraFlex after this. Ive seen many grows with people using it and seems pretty good and they all love it. And it’s super affordable in comparison. I’m on day 9 right now, so now that you’ve mentioned this I’ll probably start them all on nutes now. I don’t know how I feel about this little one though I’m just gunna treat her as being a week behind the others.

@Cali_Grown_420, the cotyledons won't feed them for 3 weeks in hydro. If you are using a high quality soil then it can feed your plants for a few weeks. Not in hydro though. Not sure which nutrients you are using but most nutrients don't work as advertised as far as holding a steady pH. If you want a trouble free grow then I would get some maxigro and maxibloom. They hold pH steady and they are a great stand alone nutrient. They have everything the plant needs. That is what I use. I also use RO water and the plants usually want a little calmag around week 3. Fastbuds recommends 1/3 dose on day 5 in hydro, but 1/4 dose on day 3 has always worked well for me.
Cali_Grown_420
Cali_Grown_420commented4 years ago
@Wicked_Stix, my understanding is the plants don’t need much nutrients this early as they get majority of their nutrients from their two cotyledons leaves? But it’s recommended to use a little CalMag if using RO water and the type of nutrients I’m using. As the nutrients needs some kind of buffering agent to stabilize pH levels.

Burmese is right about the PH, lower levels cause this problem. With DWC you really need to keep on top of your PH daily and do regular water changes.
