Welcome to the new bakery! This will be our first run with this new system. We will be growing bakers delight (cookies x (tangie x sherbert)) and brain cake (dosidos s1). The goal of this run is to get the best-tasting most terpalicious bud we can! Therefore we will try to: -> follow a 'Kyle Kushman' style training & defoliation (basically resulting in consistent flower quality) -> keep low temps for the final weeks of flower -> supplement UV in late flower -> flush to the best of our ability (still looking into the best way to flush in dwc, just plain water for last 15 days?) -> gradually decrease max water level during last 3-4 weeks -> 2-3 days darkness before harvest -> harvest at morning time -> slow and consistent drying & curing The system used is a hydroponic deep water culture under led lights with supplement co2. The general veg timeline should be something like (to fill up the 60*60cm area per plant) : - topping at week 4 - kyle kushman's chiropractic to strengthen the stems (every week or two) - heavy defoliation at week 6 (kyle kushman technique removing lowest 30%) - start flower once they recover at week 7-8 Grow status: Just finished setting up all the new equipment in the tent!! Still waiting on a controller for the ventilation which is currently switched off (otherwise it runs on max power which is far too strong). Roots appeared out of the bottom of the root riot sponges so they were moved into the dwc system with hoods to keep climate stable. Dwc buckets are filled till 1cm from net pots to keep pebbles nice and wet, will lower the water level to 3cm once the root pops out of the net pot. Running the sp3000 led at 10% to keep temp low (ventilation system is off), when the ventilation controller arrives and the first leaves appear the light will be increased gradually to 25% (5% per day?) Day 3 update: After going on vacation a few days and coming back, the bakers delight is doing well but the first brain cake had stagnant growth so it was replaced by the back-up brain cake. The problem was that when transplanting the brain cake the tap root got pinched between two pebbles causing the seedling to create new roots - which would have delayed the growth by at least half a week. Light set from 10% to 15%. Temp went from 24c to 25c to 26c (and rh from 48 to 55) due to the windows etc being closed while on vacation. Overall comments: Very excited to get started! Expecting slow growth for the next 10 days and then hoping they will take off if we get the settings right!

Day 4 - 7: -> Slow growth overall. -> Didn't see any root growth at day 7 and with a 2 inch gap between pots and water level and due to placing the root riots 5-6cm high we concluded they were growing slowly due to lack of water (even though pebbles were wet because of the air bubbles). Day 7: -> water raised to 2cm above bottom of netpot Day 8: -> the Bakers Delight showed first root through netpot Day 9: -> noticed slight foam and smell so refreshed water, cleaned out dwc systems and added new water and increased fan from 20% -> 30% hoping to decrease tent temp from 25.5 to 24.5 (and with the air pumps being next to the ventilation inlets hopefully this will cool down the water a bit) -> removed humidity dome from the Bakers Delight

Day 14 update: Just changed the water res and added a bit more nutrients for the Bakers Delight and put the light a bit closer (100>70cm) and set light strength from 30%->35%. Bakers Delight root growth coming along nicely, hopefully the growth above ground will take off soon... Brain Cake still no roots! Top feeding once a day with its own water (and water level 1cm below net pot) so started a new Brain Cake and will replace in 7-10 days if still no roots. Slow growth above ground for the Brain Cake aswell, I think it was transplanted too high in the net pot but might be because of too much experimenting with different water heights (due to impatience...). Day 19 update: Heat wave currently more than 30c outdoors and 28.5c in tent. Added more ventilation and a humidifier (to avoid drying out at higher heat, and helps cool a little). Water temp is 27.5c!!!!! Added a bit more than the recommended dosage of hydroguard, bought some small plastic water bottles which are in the freezer now, will add them to the dwc buckets to cool down. Had some foam and smell in the Baker's Delight (the water is 1c warmer than the Brain Cake's water, due to position next to air intake) but it became less and roots became more white since yesterday. Added an extra air pump hopefully to keep the water more agitated and less prone to unwanted bacteria... Very happy to see the Brain Cake picked up nicely, both have slightly light green leaves so added some more nutrients (more for the Bakers Delight than for the Brain Cake) - hopefully the light green leaves of the BD are due to it being hungry, and not a symptom of root/temp problems!

Day 22: Due to the heat wave the water reservoir temps are way too high between 27-28c (house temps go up to 29c during the day...). Brown clots have been forming and sometimes white foam appears and roots seems to be having a hard time. Changed the water reservoir on day 21: - completely cleaned the buckets and airstones with 10% bleach solution followed by boiling water - replaced with 23c water - added a 3rd airpump, they should be getting around 500lph each (in 10l water), however with the high temps the bubbles seem very big and many bubbles linger at the water surface - hydroguard should be helping quite a lot vs the root rot (without it the plants would have been lost already) Pictures of day 22 show that foam is already returning. Added 2 frozen water bottles to the Bakers Delight water res to compare and see if it is worth it to add frozen water bottles all day... Now for the good news... The humidifier and ventilation and keeping the lights at only 30% seem to be helping the plants combat the heat above ground! They have both picked up in growing speed indicating the end of the seedling period and start of the real vegetative period (which took very long, due to bad transplant and long time to root in netpots). Heat wave should end in a few days, then temps should fall back to 24-26c (outdoors) so hopefully the root rot will not become too bad and they will be able to recover soon! Day 23: Water in res has less foam, they both seem healthy and have that nice fresh plant smell :D Roots have some brown areas but not slimy so I'm guessing its the organic nutrients forming blobs (as it does on the sides of the buckets at the surface of the water), probably due to high water temps and the bigger air bubbles which are due to the higher water temps... The heat wave ends in 48h so its not looking too bad, hopes are high :) Day 24: New white roots appearing! Both plants are slightly lighter green than yesterday and EC dropped by 0.15 but since today is the last heat wave day we will wait till tomorrow to add more nutrients (after adding the organic nutrients more foam and brown blobs seem to appear with this higher temps and consequently larger air bubbles).

Topped both and defoliated bottom 'messy' offshoots (about 25%). Might have been a bit much for the ladies after battling through heat stress and root rot and then a sudden dip in temperatures (from 30c avg to 23.5c avg). Adjusting Ph 2x per day, slowly increased nutrients till EC was stable (at around 1.1, tap water is 0.4), Bakers Delight is showing more signs of deficiency but should be fixed now. The fan leaves have red stems and are clawing down (mainly on the Brain Cake) --> probably cold stress and wind burn with the fan pointed straight on them, they seem to slowly be recovering and new growth is nice and dark green. I think the Bakers Delight might have been topped too close to a new internode, slowing down the growth considerably for a few days. Hopefully she will pick up soon or the Brain Cake may need a major defoliation for them to stay the same size. Time will tell! The current plan is to get them to branch out and fatten up a bit and hopefully in 2 weeks we can start flower!

Day 45: Ph fluctuations (quickly rising to 9) due to using Plagron lemon kick in hydro with airstones, so we got some Plagron Ph min. Bakers Delight is picking up growth again (was slightly stunted by pruning). Increased light height and strength from 40 -> 60%. Day 47: Ph has been stable between 5.6-6.3 thanks to switching to 'Plagron Ph min' instead of the 'lemon kick'. Removed minor offshoots at the base of the Brain Cake, and tied down all the branches of the Brain Cake. Removed 2 fans on the Bakers Delight for more light penetration, this one seems more compact and have shorter internode distance than the BC, but is also smaller in total volume. LST will also be done on the Bakers Delight in a few days then the branches are a bit longer.

SP3000 lights on at 80% The general LST plan: Make branches grow horizontally and let their offshoots fill up the middle. Removed offshoots on lower branches (since they have no space to grow anyway). Will keep some of the lowest bud sites to test the penetration/range of the new sp3000 light, will need to defoliate appropriately so the lowest bud sites still catch some light. Day 51 update: - ph was dropping to 4.5 after 1 day, most likely due to the added co2, keeping the room window open kept the ph pretty stable. EC dropped from 1.1 to 0.75-0.8 in a week, will do a full res change instead of topping off because they are showing signs of burn even with this low EC (tap water is already 0.4 here, and EC is lower than a few weeks ago) - the new ph min works very well, they seem to have adapted to having a correct ph now and are growing well - the light intensity has been increased gradually over the past week, now at 80%. Will try to get to 100% before starting flower (in like 10 days) Will start the next batch of seeds soon! We have chosen for Kosher Dawg (kosher kush X stardawg) for some terped out dieselly fruity sour kushy terpalisciousness, and a Runtz (gelato X skittelz, from amnesia seeds) for a consistent yield of sweet tasty herb-a-terpa-liscious harvest! (from other grow diaries it seems like this Runtz grows with many offshoots, reminds me of skunk strains however the Runtz has the many small round nugs like other gsc style strains). Day 52: - minor defoliation - last on Bakers Delight started Day 53: - Seems like the Bakers Delight has a cal mag deficiency but also the tips of the new growth seem slightly burnt? - gave more base nutrients to the BD to help vs cal mag shortage Day 54: - Bakers Delight nitrogen overdose, added 3 litres of tap water and ph to 5.8 brining Ec down from 1.1 to 0.9 - Brain Cake top growth has yellow tips, not sure what this is... could it be: light burn? a nutrient burn? a nutrient deficiency?

Why are the tips of the leaves yellow on the highest growth points of the Brain Cake? - light burn? Since a few days the light is at 80% (mars sp3000 300w full spectrum led in a 60*120cm at 80cm above the top of the plants) - nutrient burn/shortage? Res changed a few days ago

@gmslave i think you got the N backward. it's more available at higher pH. that's one of the main reasons the recommended pH for soil is higher, because it's tougher to get N out of soil - whether due to microbes involved, physical obstacles, whatever.. i don't know the nitty-gritty details of causality, unfortunately. extra tidbit for answers. i wouldn't trust those 'growweedeasy' ph charts.. i think they are a bit suspsect on the information they provide, but .. oh well. i wouldn't trust it without verifying what it says through actual research conducted on this stuff... Most plants researched prefer the same narrow range of concentrations and ratios of nutes. marijuana is not different from this very common grouping of plants. So, most research will apply well in this regard to other species. in this particular case, it kinda shows what i'm talking about that so-called pH chart. N is a solid bar across whole spectrum of "hydro" chart, and you can see the lower end on the "soil" chart. in this case, they got it right. More likely made by people that took a high school chem class and didn't do well. but, if you study that chart... at <6 you will inevitably have deficiencies and problems... if that's true why do people recommend 5.5-5.8? Why aren't those people constantly having Mg, Ca, Mn defieciencies? That chart is trash, that's why, lol. generalizations only... if its range is 'higher' figure a higher pH could help. beyond that don't use it in a specific, precise, black-and-white way. those charts are not accurate in ways that can worsen problems. right now, most science is butchered by this industry for money.

Day 63 (3 days after flip to 12/12): Bakers Delight picking up slowly. Brain Cake starting to stretch - tied down the major branches just before taking the pictures. Day 69: Brain Cake seems happy and has short internode distance on the newest internodes of the main branches Bakers Delight less happy but seems to be growing yet not much focus on new leaf growth - should probably have defoliated less before flower.

Day 70: Brain Cake seemed thirsty and wanting more nutrients: Topped off water yesterday, added +3ml of hyro A&B and +1ml of power roots & pure enzyme. EC went from 0.8 -> 1.0 Day 71: Brain Cake is showing symptoms, many top leaves have deformed tips and light interveinal chlorosis starting on opposite end of the tip and dark interveinal chlorosis at the end of the tip. EC is 0.8-0.9 (not very accurate meter :/ ) Not sure whether this is a nutrient deficiency or excess/lockout. The ph has been between 5.6 and 6.5 most of the time the past week, the reservoir change was 4-5 days ago. Plagron indicates to give more hydo A&B in proportion to their roots and enzyme nutrients in the first weeks of flowering (during veg these are given in proportion), so maybe these new problems are due to the different balance of nutrients that I may have times wrongly. Finally the problems may be due to the water reservoirs holding approx 12 liters in practice and the Brain Cake drinks approx 2-3.5L a day so maybe the water res is very unstable but after a day the PH usually remains in range and the EC usually drops a bit the first day after adding nutrients and stays pretty stable the rest of the week. Any suggestions are more than welcome! Day 72: Yesterday evening made an upgraded reservoir for the Brain Cake dwc (as we suspect the leaf problems may be due to instable water because of small res and roots nearly completely filling the res). Now the Brain Cake is in a 60L box with approx 32L of water, EC set to 1.0 and ph 5.7-6.5. She seems to be happy, nice and perky this morning. FYI the roots seem more orange in the video! They are on the white side though, just a bit of stain from the nutrients but looking very good overall.

Update: the leaf edges are curling upwards and tips twisting, I think its a molybdenum shortage because all the symptoms match, however I have kept my ph above 5.5 so I don't know what else to do to fix it. I increased the EC slightly and she is still happy, but the molybdenum deficiency symptoms are still slowly progressing! Also I thought the problem might have been due to the reservoir being small so I upgraded to a 30+ liter reservoir which keeps the ph and ec nice and stable, HOWEVER now there is white foam in the res (but no odor, roots are white and not slimy...) I think the foam may be due to the enzyme nutrients breaking down old matter and maybe I didn't clean the new hydro system well enough. Anyway, anyone have any idea how to fix a molybdenum deficiency?

Day 77 (day 14 flower): They are both stretching and just about filling up the space. The Brain Cake seems to have more or less recovered from what seems to have been a molybdenum deficiency (most likely due to the nutrients used, not meant for dwc systems). The Bakers Delight seems to be picking up (was sensitive the past few weeks, now the leaves seem a bit healthier). Another week of stretch left before doing a defoliation and switching to the bloom booster. Day 79 (day 16 flower): Buds starting to get sticky! Neutral smell for now. Day 81 (day 18 flower): Both seem healthy, will do a reservoir change soon. The buds seems to be growing, the stretching seems to have been slower the past days. Trying to guess when the stretch ends to do the 'day 21 of flower defoliation' and switch nutrients to the bloom booster. Day 83 (day 20 flower): The buds are growing and getting sticky. Will do a defoliation and switch to bloom booster tomorrow.

Day 84 (day 21 flower): Major defoliation on both the Brain Cake and Bakers Delight. Both the ladies are getting sticky! The Brain Cake smell is pretty neutral but the Bakers Delight has a bit more smell and reminds me a bit of a Tangine Kush (Rare Dankness) I grew a while back. Changed the water reservoirs to the flower bloom booster nutrients (Plagron green sensation). Day 86 (day 23 flower): They seem to be coming along nicely, a tiny bit of progression in the buds since defoliating. The Bakers Delight is more sensitive to nutrients so added some tap water to dilute the nutrients a little (TDS 510 -> 470). Day 87 (day 24 flower): Both doing well. The Bakers Delight seems to be reacting positively to the slightly lower nutrient concentration. Both water reservoirs between 5.7 and 6.3 at all times and around 20-21c. Day 89 (day 26 flower): Everything seems fine, water stats are stable, for as far as I can see no deficiencies or excess, bud are growing in height and seem to be producing nice amounts of thc giving the buds a slightly grey color. Some of the pistils are turning orange very early, might be due to stress the past weeks, or the new full spectrum light or just genetics. The Bakers Delight currently has a stronger smell, also a more peppery background. The Brain Cake has a neutral fresh 'plant material' green hash smell, nothing special going on yet with her odor. --> Slowly been hanging the light closer, at 50cm from the Brain Cake and 60cm from the Bakers Delight, will slowly lower till its approx 40cm from the Brain Cake and 50cm from the Bakers Delight (because the BD is 10 cm shorter...). Hopefully this will get the top buds to get even bigger and stronger and hopefully aswell the bottom buds will pull some weight and most importantly the bottom buds need to ripen as fast as the top buds which is usually the main issue when they dont get enough light... Curious to see how it plays out. Might need another minor defoliation around day 40-44.

Day 98 (day 35 flower): The buds are growing nicely! The Bakers Delight is still being fed very lightly, and is putting out most of the smell (a bit of a tangie smell). The Brain Cake is filling up, nearly all leaves have thc on them so not sure if a day 42 defoliation will take place. The Brain Cake doesn't have much more than a fresh herby hash smell, HOWEVER when touching the greasy buds they leave a delicious fresh herby dank kush smell which is definitely a personal favorite, so this got me even more impatient! The expecation is for the buds to start swelling in breadth in about a week, for a week, and then probably another 2 weeks of slowly gaining weight and ripening off... so hopefully harvest date is in a month :D The tent is slightly humid but should be able to regulate the humidity more using the cold outdoor air in a few weeks (to have lower humidity for the last 2 weeks) Day 99 (day 36 flower): Took some closeup macro pictures to try to capture the ripeness of the resin (and to see if something like a microscope needs to be acquired to determine harvest time)

They are doing well! Buds seem to be putting on weight and it won't be long before the leaves fade (they both show some signs of fading already). --> Lowered the nutrients slightly (quality over quantity! aiming for a smooth smoke hopefully...) The Bakers Delight has a fuel/gas background and a creamy tangie foreground smell! Can't wait!! The Brain Cake buds seem to have more resin and develop more healthily but still not much odor mainly a fresh hash smell (like gorilla glue can have?). Pretty sure (or at least I hope!) some floral kush smells will express themselves with a good cure! day 46 update: Today I sampled a small slightly underdeveloped bud of the Brain Cake cut on day 41, dried it 5 days no cure, and took a bong hit (dry 0.12g, I usually hit around 0.12-0.2g) -> The purpose was to test how 'clean'/'smooth' the smoke is to have an idea of how long to flush for and just out of curiosity to feel the effect of under-ripe resin :D I won't mention the organoleptic properties since they will change a lot. ==> I was very impressed with the hit! Compared to any of the hundreds of samples I purchased at coffeeshops in the Netherlands in the past year was BY FAR the smoothest on my lungs, and literally didn't even have the bong hit rush effect but a clean clear head high with slight euphoria kicked in after 3 minutes and slowly got stronger for the next 30 minutes - with 0 'paranoia style intense effect' that is usually present with bong hits. Barely any physical effect though so clearly under ripe, but I expected much much worse so very satisfied and looking forward :D Trying to get lower temps at night, since there is a veg tent next to it the target is 18c-19c at night to not stunt the vegging plants. day 48 update: Got a night temp of 18c and 19c the past two nights, and you can see how the plants react! The Brain Cake turned dark blue, the Bakers Delight bud leafs are also showing more blue color! I shake the branches every day to get a feeling for the weight of the buds, I can say with confidence that since yesterday the buds are gaining weight, 2 days ago they still seemed light now they are starting to feel heavy :D

Day 50: The top of the Brain Cake has turned grey/black/dark blue, and the buds of the Bakers Delight are also showing some dark blue/purple tones. They are slowly packing weight. Gradually reducing nutrients, they both show deficiencies but seem perky and healthy so will continue the process of lowering nutrients and maintain low night temps for the next 10 days. Harvest is expected approx 10 days from now. Still hesitating on how long to do the period of darkness before cutting them down. I think 12h of darkness (so its morning for the plants, when they *should* have max terpenes or something) + a multiple of 24h darkness, so either 36h or 60h darkness before harvest. Will try to keep them below 20c during the darkness. Day 51: Bud rot detected in the Brain Cake! Of course in the nicest most dense buds... need more ventilation next run... The buds with rot were directly harvested and the rot cut out. The rest of the plants were put into darkness for 24h+ to harvest the next day (I saw powder fall from the rotting buds in the tent, so not going to risk letting them mature longer). That brings this run to an end 10 days early! Such a shame other that the bud rot problem more or less everything was going well and they only needed to mature ... Anyway better luck next time and learning from the mistakes!

The leaves of some of the main buds are showing problems. The tips are curling/pointin up and crispy and have yellow/brow tips. The leaves also seem to be showing big spots but the color is difficult to see since the leaves are grey/purple/brown the spots seem greenish/yellow

I suffered with this in the past. Pinned it down to light stress as all other factors were down. 1 way to tell if its light stress is if ur leaf stems go purple. Which I see yours a very red. This is basically sunburn. If you have a fell spectrum only go 2 100% last 2 weeks of flower. The sunburn is caused by the uv that the lamp gives off and although great for thc production you only want to apply it when buds are at most susceptible to it. I go on manufactures guide most of the time but I have great reflective walls so I take off 5% regardless the height, my light is at 26" at 80% if I go down to 18" I go downtown to 60% Guide is 18to24" 60-80% power im only at 80% as my light is slightly higher. My stems stay green now. Look into Shane from Migro-and flushing. Very interesting shit based on the myth behind flushing. Long story short you don't need to. As its impossible to change the chemical makeup of a plant thats taken months to form. The smoothness comes from a very slow dry in a controlled enviroment. Any way I'm rambling Catch you on the flip side

Happy Harvest Day!

Note: harvested 10 days early due to bud rot and at least half the thc was still clear so can't judge this strain's taste or effect. The taste: Not much taste yet (after 2 weeks cure at 60-64rh), I expect the taste to come after a longer cure (probably 6 weeks for dankness). A bit of a floral taste and the smoke is expansive in a similar way to strains of the cookies family. A bit a of fresh underripe hash taste due to it being harvested early... The effect: Mentally 'easy', no rush, no confusion, no memory loss but a feeling of calmness, not too physical (due to early harvest...), easy to take fat dabs due to no rush! So pretty comfy to smoke, easy to smoke large quantities and the effect reminds me of super silver haze but less euphoria and no rush at the beginning and slightly more mentally calming. My rating is not fair due to early harvest, but I took off points because personally, I expected a much smellier strain and didn't get much smell from this one. Could definitely be due to cultivation mistakes on my part! BHO stats: -> From dried popcorn buds the yield was 26.5% (I was positively surprised!)

Note 10 day early harvest due to bud rot (so the taste and effect are not very developed). This strain is easy to grow, doesn't smell strong and has a lot of trichomes. The buds are nice and dense, internode distance is perfect with the small compact buds spread out over the plant, I think if you get the canopy nice and full it could exceed 600g/m2 so above average production. The main thing that stands out in the end product is an effect without a rush and 0 paranoia so I can take fat dabs (meaning much bigger than I usually take) and have no negative rush effects (you still get the euphoria waves and relaxation!) and I can still think pretty clear after dabbing and have little to no memory loss which is pretty amazing since I am used to smoking haze from coffeeshops its nice to be much more functional and surprisingly much more awake/active/motivated vs the haze smokes.

Note: harvested a week to 10 days early due to bud rot! Taste and effect not developed yet so hard to review. This plant reminded me of its genetics during the grow. Early on is had some citrus hints to the smell reminding of tangie, the growth and shape reminds of gsc and the creamy and herby smell/taste of the sherbert is definitely present giving the smoke a smooth creamy exhale with some spiciness. The buds still need much more cure as currently at 2 weeks cure the smell is still evolving noticeably becoming more sweet and creamy. The effect is a warm feeling with euphoria and focus, makes me feel more like I am focused on my thoughts but wants me to share ideas (and mainly share the joint for others to enjoy!! which is a very good thing) which is why I describe the effect as euphoric, but also relaxing because no strong initial rush and it is calming as most cannabis. It is interesting if I smoke this after smoking many other strains then it feels much stronger and I feel it more through my body, however when I start the day smoking this it is not strong at all and I can easily do what I want but the effect can still be felt so doesn't make me want to smoke more. The bho shows the effect well: I can take massive hits compared to usual, it is not perceived as strong but I do get a nice comfy feeling and definitely feel very high, but also very clear minded and not tired.

Had bud rot so early harvest. Would have gotten more weight and better quality if she would go at least another week. Nice plant and if you want her for the effects (DNA describes her as 'focused') then I would fully recommend. Personally I love taste so I wait till a 6 week cure before deciding how much I like the strain - the taste during the smoking experience is very important to me and if not very good I don't bother smoking the flowers and use only for extracts.
