Hello growers! Everything I have seen from this strain impresses me. I am really looking forward to this one and have been eyeing it for quite some time. I hope she lives up to my imagination! The deets: Seeds were super pale and packaging was a pain to open and is not reusable. There are 21 plants in the veg tent, right now. 17 photoperiod seedlings, 3 autoflower seedlings, and an auto in mid bloom. Started in Jiffy peat pellets with Roots Organics 707 filling the Solo style plastic cups under and around the peat pellets. The soil was top dressed with .25 tsp of each: Azos, Mycos, and Re-Charge. Let's go microbes! Thanks for stopping in and checking out my diary!

8/17 update: Welcome back to my garden! Thanks for following me on this journey! It has been 9 days since sowing this Melon Gum seed and we finally have a tap root and she's starting to sprout! I wasn't sure if she was going to sprout because she was a very pale seed and was last to sprout. There are no apparent indications of stress or deformaties. Feeding with .2 ml/gal of RapidStart and .2 ml/gal of SuperThrive, Adjusted pH to 6.5. After adjusting pH add .25 tsp of recharge. Thanks for stopping in and if you get a chance, check out a few of my other diaries and give me a follow. Happy growin', happy harvestin', and happy tokin'! 8/26 update: Welcome back to my garden! Thanks for joining me and my baby Melon Gum, bred by Dr. Underground. It has been 18 days since she was sown and she was one of the last to sprout! I am really happy she made it because I was worried the seed may have been unviable since It looked a little under-developed. She seems happy and healthy with no obvious signs of stress. Feeding with .5ml/gal of Blue planet Gold Shield Potassium Silicate, .5 ml/gal of RapidStart and .5 ml/gal of SuperThrive, Adjusted pH to 6.2. After adjusting pH I added 1 tsp of recharge. Thanks for stopping in and if you get a chance, check out a few of my other diaries and give me a follow. Happy growin', happy harvestin', and happy tokin'! Fo' Twenny here with an update on my baby Melon Gum from Dr. Underground! To see all of the plants in this run, check out my diary titled 'You choose the strains!" 9/5: She sprouted a little later and has been growing a bit more slowly, so she's the runt of the garden. I think she will be a strong second halfer and take us all by surprise! Despite her smaller stature, she is healthy and green. Today, I transplanted from the 16oz solo cup into a one gallon Active Aqua 6" x 6" Square Pot, 8" Tall. I innocculate at the root zone using .5 tsp Mycos from Extreme Gardening .5 tsp Recharge. I sprinkled some White Dutch Clover seed around the top of the pot for a cover crop. BAD NEWS: Half of the blue diodes have gone out in the TMLAPY light. This light was actually gifted to me shortly after a friend purchased it from Amazon and realized it was too small for their space. It seemed to be serving it's purpose well for vegging photos and running bumper crops of autoflowers but it failed only four months after the warranty period ended! Weak-Sauce! Welp, looks like it's time to upgrade the 24"x48" tent to Samsung LM301H boards. I ordered a 320w straight single piece heatsink with 3 boards from Geeklight. I went with the 3k spectrum and switchable UV/IR since all my autoflowers bloom under this light. RHIZOSPHERE: .25 tsp/gal Blue Planet Gold Shield Silica Supplement .25 tsp/gal Fox Farm Gringo Rasta Cal-Mag 1.5 tsp/gal BigBloom .25 tsp/gal Boomerang .125 tsp/gal Wholly Mackerel PPM: 749 pH: 6.4 1 tsp/gal Southern AG Garden Friendly Fungicide compare to Hydroguard 2 TBSP/gal Serenade Thanks for stopping by my garden! Fo' Twenny here with an update on my baby Melon Gum from Dr. Underground! To see all of the plants in this run, check out my diary titled 'You choose the strains!" 9/7 - Day 29 - Due to her being the runt, I did not top and defoliate as I did with most of the plants in the tent. Other than being a little behind the others, she is looking really good! Hoping she will be ready for defoliation in a couple of days. 9/9 - Day 31 - Still not ready for defoliation, gave plain pH'd water today. BAD NEWS: Half of the blue diodes have gone out in the TMLAPY light. Fo' Twenny here with another update on our Melon Gum cultivar bred by Dr. Underground! Want to see all the strains I have running? This girl is just one of a 16 strain photoperiod SOG with 2 wildcards added in the event that either of the two regular seeds end up being males. Check out all of my diaries and give me a follow! Any advice, suggestions, or constructive criticisms are always welcome. 9/13 - Premixed soil to prepare for upcoming transplanting. SOIL MIX DETAILS Mixed into a 50 gallon container that will be kept in a warm environment to help innocculate to promote a vast and diverse microbial life in the rhizosphere. 2 Part - Royal Gold Tupur INGREDIENTS: Coco fiber, aged forest materials, perlite, and basalt 1 Part - Fox Farms Ocean Forest INGREDIENTS: Aged forest products, sphagnum peat moss, earthworm castings, bat guano, fish emulsion, and crab meal. 1 Part - Roots Organics INGREDIENTS: Perlite, Coco Fiber, Peat Moss, Composted Forest Material, Pumice, Worm Castings, Bat Guano, Soybean Meal, Alfalfa Meal, Fishbone Meal, Kelp Meal, and Greensand. Also contains beneficial mycorrhizal fungi: Funneliformis mosseae, Rhizophagus intraradices, Septoglomus desertícola .5 Part - Wiggle Worm Soil Builder Pure Earthworm Castings .5 Part - Ancient Forest Humus .5 Part - Coarse Grade Perlite Inocculated by mixing 1 cup of Extreme Gardening Mycos Watered with pH 6.5 H2O 1 Tsp/gal Real Grower's Recharge 1 tsp/gal Hi-Brix Molasses 2 tsp/gal Fox Farms Kangaroots 9/16 - Day 38: This cultivar is looking really good! She was the runt for a while and finally is mature enough to top. I topped her just above the fifth node leaving a small nub. I also defoliated several large fan leaves. I did notice some white blotches on a few leaves as well as several other plants in the garden. I'm not sure if it's just water spots from my helper's carelessly watering causing water spots from the Nutrient solution or the start of a PM infection. Never really dealt with PM, but decided to spray them with some serenade. I also sprinkled with a little more White Dutch Clover seed on top soil. 9/17 - Day 39: I installed the new 320w GeekLight in the 24" x 48" veg tent. GOOD NEWS: I upgraded the 24"x48" tent to Samsung LM301H boards. I ordered a 320w straight single piece heatsink with 3 boards from Geeklight. I went with the 3k spectrum and switchable UV/IR since all my autoflowers bloom under this light. $306 USD after all is said and done. It took 9 calendar days to ship from China. https://app.alibaba.com/dynamiclink?touchId=1600101815945&type=product&schema=enalibaba%3A%2F%2Fdetail%3Fid%3D1600101815945%26ck%3Dshare_detail&ck=share_detail&shareScene=buyer NUTRITION: ⬇️Mixing Rundown⬇️ Foliar Feed & Nutrient Solution 2 gal tap h2O run through x2 KDF filters Start ppm 630 Start ph 7.8 2.5 ml/gal Gold Shield Silica Supplement .5 tsp/gal Fox Farm Gringo Rasta Cal-Mag pH @ 8.1 .33 tsp/gal ph down pH: 6.5 PPM: 730 Serenade 3 tsp/gal (Always adjust pH prior to adding any microbial innocclants) Filled Spray bottle with 32 oz of the 2 gal mixed solution. •••••••••••••••••••••••••• Sept. 28 - Oct. 4 •••••••••••••••••••••••••• WEEKLY SUMMARY: •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🙋‍♀️Fo' Twenny here!🙋‍♀️ I want to welcome you all back to another update on our little 🍈🔴 Melon Gum cultivar bred by Dr. Underground! If you're just joining us, we have had this mostly Indica photo-dependant cultivar vegging SOG style in our 48"x 24" VIVOSUN tent with 20 other plants for several weeks now. She has been one of the slower growing cultivars in the tent but she is starting to pick up some monentum. I have been doing a lot of heavy defoliation and pruning the past few weeks in an effort to create a nice foundation to send into flower. I also made a few upgrades in the bloom tent moved a few of the other of her tent-mates into the 8'x4' bloom tent running a 12/12 schedule, but I decided to give this little lady just a bit more veg time! Also, I realized my BlueLab Conductivity Meter has the option to switch to EC. Since EC is the most accurate way to measure the nutrient concentration in a solution, I will now be measuring and reporting EC readings rather than PPM. Any advice, suggestions, or constructive criticisms are always welcome. Now, for the weekly break down! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• THIS WEEK'S BREAK DOWN •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 9/30 - Day 52 °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° 📸 PHOTOSHOOT! 📸 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 10/1 - Day 53 °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° 🌿 EXTENDED VEGETATIVE CYCLE 🌿 - While the majority of her tent mates have been moved to bloom, I have decideded to let her have an extended vegetative period for two reasons. First, I would like to see her get just a little taller. Second, I ran out of premixed medium. I have since mixed more medium, and will transplant in a week or so, depending on how she progresses. 📸 PHOTOSHOOT! 📸 👩‍💻 UPGRADE! 👩‍💻 - In the 96" x 48" bloom tent, I added a BOTANICARE 48" x 48" low-tide flood tray on top of six 4" tall cinder-blocks with a low-profile motorcycle oil-pan for the water to drain into beneath the flood tray. 🚿FEED DAY!🚿 She received approximately 16 oz of nutrient solution. I mixed 12 gallons of solution for all the plants I have running in this SOG.16 oz of that was then measured and fed to this cultivar. 👩‍🔬NUTRIENT SOLUTION👩‍🔬 ⬇️Mixing Rundown⬇️ The solution starts with 12 gallon tap H2O through two kdf filters mixed in a 36 gallon reservoir. The solution is applied via wand sprayer powered by a submersible pump attached to a garden hose. Nutrients and additives are added to the reservoir in the order listed below and thoroughly mixed using a plastic stir spoon. The reservoir is oxygenated by four 4 inch air stones. UNDERGROUND! In case you're just joining us, last week we decided to give this photo-dependant lady an extended veg period and decided to keep her in the 48"x 24" VIVOSUN veg-tent to grow a little larger before flowering. She has been growing steadily since. This week we transplanted and moved her to the 96" x 48" VIVOSUN flower tent under a 12/12 lighting schedule! Observation: Ever since I upgraded the AC and have been maintaining lower temps, I notice that don't have to water nearly as often. Used to be about every 3 - 4 days, and now, its closer to 5 - 6 days. The White Dutch Clover may also play a factor here. I do mist the top of the pots with 1-2 oz every day to every other day with plain water to keep the White Dutch Clover happy. Any advice, suggestions, or constructive criticisms are always welcome. •••••••••••••••••••••••••• Oct. 10 - Oct. 16 •••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🌱🚿 SOWED - 8/9 🕛🌼 STARTED 12/12 CYCLE - 10/10 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• WEEKLY SUMMARY: •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🙋‍♀️Fo' Twenny here!🙋‍♀️ Back with another update on our Indica/Sativa hybrid cultivar, 🍈🍬 MELON GUM, bred by DR. UNDERGROUND!! This girl has always been the runt of the SOG, but she's still healthy and happy with a nice thick stem and close internodal growth. She is a strain that i have had my eye on for years and i am really looking forward to watching her progress through flower. Stay tuned to see how she develops! STRATEGY: To keep our MELON GUM cultivar and her White Dutch Clover cover crop hydrated between feeds, every other day or so (as needed), she gets about 4 - 6 oz of plain filtered water pH adjusted between 6.2 and 6.6. This is sprayed evenly around the top of the medium using a 32 oz ZEP Professional sprayer. This has allowed me to minimize feeds to about one a week eliminating the need to mix my reservoir twice a week. Since she is mid stretch, I am keeping defoliation to a minimum, no more than 5-10% of the plants foliage in a week. I am only removing lower shoots that will only end up yielding larf as well as mature fan leaves (my definition of mature fan leaves: petioles of 1.5-2" and typically below the top three nodes of a growth shoot) that are facing inward towards the main stem. Next week will be focused more on those fan leaves that are excessively shading neighboring plants along with the lower leaves on any shoots left on the plant. Typically, the first 2-3 nodes of smaller growth shoots yield much smaller nugs. That said, on any remaining smaller growth shoots, I plan to remove those lower leaves and bud-sites early. This will also help with airflow and light penetration. I will not trim more than 25% of leaves per week. I actually stay closer to 15-20% per week or less while in flower, depending on the cultivar. I'm practicing some very light LST techniques. GENTLY bending stems to encourage even well-balanced growth intended to open the plants' center up for even light penetration and airflow. The goal is to evenly balance her growth within her 1'x1' footprint and avoid crowding herself or others. Any advice, suggestions, or constructive criticisms are always welcome. •••••••••••••••••••••••••• Oct. 24 - Oct. 30 •••••••••••••••••••••••••• 👩‍🌾 SOWED: Aug. 9th 🕛 12/12 START : Oct.10th 🗓️ WEEK 4 of FLOWERING 🏁 ESTIMATED FINISH: Nov. 28th - Dec. 5th •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• WEEKLY SUMMARY: •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🙋‍♀️Fo' Twenny here!🙋‍♀️ Back with another update on our Indica/Sativa hybrid cultivar, 🍈🍬 MELON GUM, bred by DR. UNDERGROUND!!! I am trying a new format for the weekly summary portion of my diary. Let me know what ya'll think! 👃 AROMA: She smells sweet but not very pungent at this point. It's still early in flower, so her terpenes are really just starting to be noticeable. I am excited to experience the evolution of her terpene profile as she progresses through flower. One of my favorite aspects of growing cannabis is how much these plants change from start to finish and how much variation is possible with this plant. ❇️ BUD STRUCTURE: Her buds are just starting to form. She seems to want to grow many smaller buds than growing larger dominant colas. She has bright white pistils shooting out from small clusters of calyxes. It's still early, and anything can happen. As always, I am going to stay optimistic about this girl. Sometimes the little ones pack the biggest punch! 🎨 Color: She is a nice healthy deep shade of green that looks like will turn purple or red later when she begins to fade. 🌿 STEM, STRETCH, & INTERNODES: She is the shortest cultivar in the tent. She has tight internodes, and really hasn't stretched much. To be continued... ✂️ TRAINING/PRUNING: I have continued selective defoliation as needed to avoid crowding herself and her neighbors. I remove no more than 25% of foliage at any one time, and usually closer 10-15%. I space out defoliation with a minimum of 3 days between sessions, in most instances. There will be exceptions to that, but it's a good rule of thumb I try to adhere to. She has been trained to have 6 main shoots and I am using LST techniques to gently bend her stems to evenly fill her space without overcrowding. ❄️TRICHOMES/RESIN PRODUCTION: She's starting to develop resin glands all over her buds. She is just getting started, so we will keep an eye on her to see how she develops. 🚿 WATER/FEED: I have continued with a light bidiurnal misting of White Dutch Clover cover crop . This, in conjunction with running lower temps (New AC), has seemed to have drastically increased feeding intervals. My plants are needing much less water than in previous runs. I typically give the whole SOG one feed per week with light watering of select individual cultivars as needed between feeds. I try my best to "read" my garden. The amount of water between feeds depends on how soon the next feed will be. I feed the garden as a whole and this run I have been generally spacing feeds out about 4-6 days when the the first plant shows beginning signs of wilt (slight droop of lower fan leaves). 📝 OBSERVATION/NOTES: She doesnt appear to have any signs of stress, deficiency, or toxicity. While small, she looks very happy and healthy! Any advice, suggestions, or constructive criticisms are always welcome. Now, for the weekly break down! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• THIS WEEK'S BREAK DOWN •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 10/29 - Day 81/Day 20 of Bloom °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° 🚿 FEED DAY 🚿 The cultivar received approximately 1 gallon of solution. The scent is difficult to describe at this point in time, but it’s definitely going to be something different. She smells different than anything I have grown. I am uber stoked on this lady! ❇️ BUD STRUCTURE: She is just starting to develop small bud clusters that are covered in resin glands. Her nodes are relatively tightly spaced and her stem is not the thickest, but still sturdy. She has a tendency to grow side branches. ✂️ TRAINING/PRUNING: No changes in my pruning strategy. I have continued selective defoliation as needed to avoid crowding herself and her neighbors. I remove no more than 25% of foliage at any one time, and usually closer 10-15%. @FoTwenny, yes full dry shell seed. Could be some genetic mutation ? Thanks. Not gonna sweat it. This was a quick impulse grow.

@@JP148, I haven't had that problem myself, but I have read moisture kills pollen viability. Maybe just spray things down well. I would have to research this one and hate to steer you wrong.
FoTwenny
FoTwennycommented4 years ago
@@JP148, Interesting. Are they fully formed seeds? I have heard of some strains being prone to growing ovules which are often mistaken for undeveloped seeds. I don't know a lot on the subject, but your situation sounds similar to that of a friend who told me about ovules in a strain I was thinking of running.

@FoTwenny,hey👋 I was mentioning those thick leafs as a cabbage😜 which is good in my eyes ! Yes , I look for rapid growth ,, strong stems , good structure ,,, short internodes💪 but we never know what the final product will turn out to be 💚
FoTwenny
FoTwennycommented4 years ago
@NatureBoyNeo, Cabbage is good? Maybe a dumb question, but was wondering. What do you look for when they're young that gives indication of final product? I think rapid growth and short internodal growth is good in general, but was curious if there are other indicators to look out for? Thanks for stopping by!

This is the best strain I have ever tasted .. I first tried it at Barca in 2015 and it's really amazing as terpenes .. Together with Mr. Nice's Mango Haze, this is the one I like the most as a flavor. In 3 days my friends and I bought 50g of this one alone 😎👌👌 I just bought some seeds too, next year I will grow them .. Hope you can find the pheno I tried .. You will see 😉 Have fun 🌱

@FoTwenny, You will have a lot of fun and you will never forget it👌 The flowers will have a light green color with slight purple / bluish shades. It's a Sativa body high , but it won't take your head to another planet 🚀 The taste is pure 🔥 Will you let me know 😉 Happy Cultivation 🌱
