Germination began on August 21st, and the seeds were placed into the rapid rooters after they sprouted on August 23rd. Eventually all of the seeds except for white widow came out of the rapid rooters on August 25th which I will be referring as the first day of the grow. Which I wasn't surprised since bubba kush and white widow were just freebies, at this rate I don't expect much from them. Yesterday, I realized the temperature of the room and the reservoir was too high, and I immediately rectified the problem by placing fans closer to the res and turning off the extra light which I realize was not necessary at this point. I suspect the extreme heat (it was 90 degrees near the plants at one point) might have contributed to stunting White Widow and Bubba Kush. For now I am going to give those runts a chance to catch up now both of their roots have successfully established themselves into their media.

Will begin mainlining next week after the sixth node shows up on each plant. Hoping bubba kush and white widow won’t stay this small for the rest of their lives. If they still remain stunted, I might just throw them out and clone the barney's farm plants instead and deal with a longer veg period.

On the third day after the reservoir change, root rot began wreaking havoc on both reservoirs. Brown sludge everywhere! Had to drain and clean both rezzes. Root rot eventually came back for White Widow & Bubba Kush. I suspect its due to light leakage in the rez, so I taped it up a bit and covered the holes. I'm gonna ditch the DIY tote boxes for the next grow, would not recommend them. I will have to keep on adding in bennies from hydroguard. Thank god the two stronger plants are OK and is still clear of any root rot. After dealing with root rot, I began the process of mainlining the two superior plants, they now have two tops. I will remove the adjoining fan leaves after the tops get bigger. If you have any tips on dealing with root rot, drop them in the comments!

Gorilla Zkittlez took mainfolding very well, while Blue Gelato #41 kind of fell behind but they both have 8 tops now. I decided to take a different approach for Bubba Kush & White Widow as I will be keeping them to 4 tops each max because I suspect they do not have the ability to grow rapidly after the high stress mainfolding procedure. I am hoping I will be able to take those into flowering by Week 6 Great week!

Good week, training the plants have begun to pay off as they increase in their base size. Really impressed with how well White widow took the training as its node spacing is just absolutely insane. Not sure if they will be ready to take into flowering by week six if I want a large-ass plant.

getting bushy af. the plants are getting close to the 20 inches minimum height before I flip them to flowering. noticing white widow is experiencing minor nutrient deficiencies. probably not a big deal.

This week, I found out the White Widow is pretty sensitive to low PH. Fortunately all plants rebounded sharply on Day 47 after draining and replacing the water. Going steadily now. I'm just amazed with how fast the plants are drinking the water.

Gave the ladies one last defoliation before starting the flip earlier this week. I just flipped the lights to 12/12 on Day 56 and upped the nutrients as we enter the transition period to flowering.

Continued to increase nutrients, stopped giving the ladies Armor Si as we have moved past the need for stronger stems. Also defoliated lower leaves & growth that was entirely covered by shadow. Starting to see some pre-flowering now, feeling hyped for the next few weeks.

End of Week 2, The tent is starting to smell like a gorilla took a dump in it, which is good news 😃 On the other hand, I think I might have detected powdery mildew starting to form on some of the lower leaves. I have just ordered an oscillating fan which I hope will help with the airflow distribution. We will have one last major defoliation next week before the buds starts to fatten up.

Is this powdery mildew? I am seeing some white spots starting to form on the underside and top side of lower fan leaves. Would adding an oscillating fan help prevent anymore white spots from appearing in the future or will I need to apply neem oil or something?

possibly... However, has any water dripped on the leaves? This can be remnants of evaporated water too. Since it is on the underside, i doubt it. it's very small and isolated at moment it seems? should be okay if you start to deal with it now. Fan will help. If leaves are overlapping and causing standing water, remove a leaf or 2. (you want to prefer not to cut leaves off...) Airflow, lower humidity, if not bad for you plants, can both help. RH <55-60% is best to avoid microbial growth... may not be best relative to VPD, but you weight your risks and do what's best for your context... in this case, i'd ignore vpd and ensure no growth since you've seen hints of it. in the past i've just rubbed it off and it went away, but my humidity wasn't an issue either and likely fixed cause of problem when i thinned plant out a bit. clean it off but make sure to use a new wipe each time or you may just contaminate other leaves... Believe milk can work? Check out the GD Copywriting contest submissions.. at least one of them goes over various options for powdery mildew as far as a more proactive approach. Since you are in flower, i'd avoid anything involving pesticides, neem and the like... just because somethign is 'organic' doesn't mean it is safe to spray on flower you will smoke later. neem is not safe to spray on flowers. i don't think it does anything for mildew? more for killing pests by making leaves poisonous.

Beautiful week 😎 buds getting bigger, the smell is getting more dank by the hour. Blue Gelato #41 is gonna have some seriously fat buds and its only the third week of flowering. Also gave the ladies another defoliation. I am not sure if I need any further defoliation though.

Bubba Kush & Gorilla Zkittlez went hermie! Let this be a lesson learned for the next time, stable genetics only. I was able to save both plants and remove all of the hermie balls & nanners on both plants. they seem to have stopped throwing out balls & nanners so I am relieved for the time being. Daily monitoring for balls is a must for the next week. I also performed a final defoliation on the girls, they are all ready to fatten up now.

Blue Gelato #41 caught me by surprise when I took a closer inspection with a 100x handheld microscope, it was showing golden/cloudy white trichromes on the calyxes pretty early but the pictures don't lie. I decided to chop the short gal last Friday on her 53rd day of flowering. I left behind a couple branches to not completely kill off the plant since gorilla zkittlez is sharing a tub with blue gelato 41. all other plants seem to be going steady and seems likely to have 2 or 3 more weeks of flowering to go. I will release a full smoke/harvest report of this unique short purple phenotype in the coming weeks.

Blue Gelato #41 was moved from the drying tent and into the curing jars, and the final two branches are still in the grow tent next to Gorilla Zkittlez. The trichromes on each plants still appear pretty clear with a few clouded bulbs, I'm hoping the rest will be ready to harvest by Christmastime.

Been giving them minimal amounts of nutrients as we get ready for them to reach that sweet spot for harvest. Chopped Gorilla Zkittlez on F69 and White widow a day before that. Still keeping my eyes on Bubba Kush as it seems to be turning out unusual foxtails probably from light stress.

This strain has really impressed me, blew my expectations out of the water even though it is a low yielder. The quality is vastly superior compared to what I can get around here. My only disappointment is the low quantity of the bud it has yielded, though I suspect that was due to the fact that it shared a DWC tub with the vastly bigger Gorilla Zkittlez which yielded way more. This bud is definitely easy to grow, it has never once showed any signs of deficiency or nute burn, it also did not require much defoliation. I also appreciate how easy it is to trim this strain as leaf production is minimal. I definitely will be growing this again in the next cycle with a rDWC system, hopefully I'll get a bigger pheno this time.

I really enjoyed this old school classic, this particular phenotype was very short and did not yield very much, again, probably due to the fact it shared a DWC tub with Bubba Kush and probably poor genetics. The smoke was the smoothest out of the all strains in the tent, excellent for wake and bake. Most likely will not be growing this again.

The bud is absolutely fantastic, it's enveloped in brilliant purple hues - nothing like I've ever seen. And the smell was the dankest of the bunch, it smelt like danky morning breath. The yield was nearly double compared to the rest and the quality was top notch. However the lower bud sites hermied pretty bad on me, which makes me think lollipopping would be effective in curbing the hermie trait. Really good stuff, I will definitely be growing this strain again and lollipop the bud sites the next time.

Beautiful plant! Congratulation man! Those buds are full of resin, will you smoke all the weed or will you extract , if so which is your preferred method?

@GreenPyramid, if you let me suggest you something.. I'd say bubblehash, you buy a set of bags and the game is on, quite easy, cant fuck it up! Solventless I would say is the best way to go, specially at the begininng. If you want text me in chat and we'll talk about! ENJOY MAN!

@Pennello, I'm a newbie at extracting and I wasn't able to find a great method to extract from my research so far, the closest I found was ethanol extract but even I'm pretty unsure of that method.

Hey buddie, you might consider elevating the totes and install drain valves. This way after you drain them for nute swap, you can clean/rinse off the sides if you needed to. But, if you start using Hydroguard all through your grow you shouldn't have to do much cleaning at all. Stuff will boost growth as well as keep away the root rot. Hope this helps growmie!

TickleToastcommented4 years ago
@GreenPyramid, Its definitely a great "ease-of-use" feature to have with any system that lacks a separate reservoir. Drain what's built up and replace with all fresh etc (most do 1-2 weeks, I cant bring myself to trust past 1). The switch was definitely a good choice - Hydroguard is overrated and overpriced! Some might also argue the dosing is quite an exaggeration, like so many other products these days 😔 I use Photosynthesis Plus- directions say 30ml per 5 gal, I use 6ml with perfect results >.>
GreenPyramid
GreenPyramidcommented4 years ago
@TickleToast, I used hydroguard for the most of the grow and eventually switched to Southern AG to save on cost. Also, I have switched to a rDWC fallponics system, I’ll definitely consider setting up a drain valve for the next grow!

hi, is the ec you get from the feeding schedule? regards and happy growing
amino
aminocommented4 years ago
@GreenPyramid, Thanks for reply, the point is in dwc cause of no medium, cation exchange is different in root area to get nutrition for the plant, so in short the max ec you should have run in peak bloom is 1.3 ec if you are using mineral fertilizer. Lets say your water has a base Ec of 0.4 then you should peak around 1.5 ec. The higher quality the nutrients have in means of concentration and bio availability less ec is needed. regards and happy growing
GreenPyramid
GreenPyramidcommented4 years ago
@@amino, The EC is somewhat inaccurate, as Gorilla Zkittlez & Blue Gelato’s DWC is in 350’s while bubba kush and white widow’s DWC is in 450’s. I will be trying to maintain their preferred levels of EC until flowering starts. Thank you for your wishes, best of luck!

I wonder if the hermie trait was caused by the pinholes which in return caused the lower budsites to hermie out due to hormonal stress? I got a bunch of Gorilla Zkittles so maybe ill lollipop just to be on the safe side! Bless:)

@GooseGenetics, you have a good point, it could be attributed to the pinholes from the tent. But, the tent itself is in a dark place which should make it an nonissue. However, there are multiple factors we need to consider: 1. The tap water I'm using is extremely cold @ 58F and I did not let it sit before adding to rez for the entire grow. 2. Lack of lights on the lower bud sites is most likely the trigger for this hermie trait. 3. Genetics. It seems like GG4 is known to hermie, this descendent might have gotten that Hermie trait. its the price we pay to grow fire :) Lollipopping is definitely a must for the next time, best of luck on your grow and keep us updated!
