8 Alien Dawg seedlings were germinated in jiffy pellets then transplanted to 2 gallon fabric pots yesterday. Soil is Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Planning on vegging until plants are a foot tall. Mars Hydro TSL 2000 lights are dimmed to 25 percent and lowered 12 inches away from the seedlings. Will need to replace the 4 inch exhaust fan because a test run was done with the lights at full intensity which caused temps to be 96 degrees Fahrenheit. Planning on mounting the drivers outside the tent . Replacing the fan with an AC infinity 6 inch next week. My goal is 8 oz dry.

Now in the middle of week 2. Installed new A.C. Infinity 6 inch exhaust. 4 inch fan now being used as an intake. Drivers for the light had to be mounted outside the tent because I am struggling with heat issues. Temps reached 92 degrees at the highest during the day and 80 at the lowest at night even with the fans on full blast and the drivers outside. I live in a hot area with only a wall ac so I can't cool the whole entire house. I'm gonna wait until summer is completely over to induce flower. Growth is still pretty fast despite the heat. Any cooling advice would help please. However one of my seedlings i guess is mutated (picture 3). Im just gonna grow it and see what happens.

***Nearing the end of week 3*** (alot has happened) High temperatures were controlled by installing a window AC to keep ambient temps low Intake ducting pointed at AC also to fill tent with cool air. Temps now ranged between 74 and 79 degrees. Mars Hydro TSL 2000 adjusted to 100 percent brightness and hightened to 18 inches. Leaves began to yellow so I fed them 3 tsp per gallon of Fox Farm Grow Big and 3 tablespoons of Fox Farm big bloom. For this week they have been receiving 1/8th of a gallon of water each watering. The damn mutated seedling is growing really slow.... One plant is growing really fast and surpassing the others. And there is also a pretty strong smell exhausting from the tent so I hooked up the carbon filter.

If I am growing Sea of Green can I give them veg nutes during flowering? I am using fox farm trio, I feel like maybe I can continue the fox farm grow big for the first 3 weeks of flowering?

I would say first 2 weeks instead of 3. Otherwise, you should be good.

Nearing the end of week 4. I flipped the lights to 12/12 yesterday because I've grown this strain and know it stretches like crazy during flowering. I noticed fox farm trio instructions don't match the feeding chart so I am now using the chart instead. I also got tired of buying reverse osmosis water so I installed my own system 2 days ago. I thought it would be much harder to do but it is actually easy. Now I have good drinking water for both myself and my babies.

What do you guys think, should I have vegged longer? I put the lights on 12/12 after vegging for almost 4 weeks. My plants are really short but pretty bushy. The shortest one is 8 inches and the tallest is 12 inches. I wanted to get an ounce off each plant but I'm not seeing it.

Hi Sacredgeometry. Your plants are looking happy and loved. With SOG (and especially early flower sog) its pretty typical (although there are exceptions) most plants don't hit an ounce dry, because the whole point is to flower earlier, and harvest quicker with more quantity of plants, which by default generally means your going to harvest less per grow but harvest more often so it all balances out. If you are doing SOG and getting an ounce or more per plant you are doing really well. The less plants you have in your SOG the more beneficial it is to do longer veg. If you don't have pistols showing yet, you could switch it back to 18-6 without too much impact, but if they already are showing pistols and have been in 12-12 for long enough, its going to take the plants longer than I would want to personally wait to get their hormones stabilized back to veg state. If they are too far in on their flowering hormones, cut clones off when these girls get bigger, and flip them back to veg for next longer 5-6 week grow cycle. It takes monster cropped clones some time to get stabilized. Generally its a good idea to wait until they are at least 12 inches tall to flip in SOG, unless you are intentionally doing 12-12 light from seed or clone which again will be very unlikely to get an ounce per plant with 12 - 12 from seed or clone. I think I would consider just letting these finish and monster cropping some clones off of them when they get a little bigger to stage for next cycle. One thing to remember is monsteer cropped clones from flower may be slightly less potent but for a home grower like me who doesn't test my harvest, I've never noticed a difference in potency.

Light schedule was switched to 12/12 it's been a week now and pistils and starting to show on main cola. *I trimmed the fan leaves and bud sites on the very bottom of the plants on each branch. I took a few cuttings 😊 However I did not trim the top halfs of the bottom branches because they are somewhat even with the main tops now. * The cuttings I took were put in zip lock bags in the crisper drawer of the fridge and will be rooted around harvest time (this is an experiment) I'm trying to keep the cuttings in stasis to avoid wasting space and more money on a mother tent. * I moved my lights farther up and dimmed them so they can stretch a little. I will turn them back up when there is adequate bud development. That's all for now.

End of week 2 of flowering Starting to smell good :) no more veg nutes from now on. I tested the ppm of the fox farm trio and realized how low it is. I'm using RO water. I think next grow I will probably use advanced nutes.

End of week 3 of flowering. Plant are definitely filling up now. The plants almost tripled in height and the stretch phase is over. I began feeding more tiger bloom today because I'm having signs of potassium deficiency. Fox farm trio PPMs are too low so instead of giving them 2 tsp per gallon I'm now giving 3 tsp. I decided to start giving them compost tea with blackstrap molasses once a week to replenish beneficial microbes and the molasses feeds them and helps them proliferate. I'm trying out this stuff I found on amazon called "Mighty Plant instant compost tea". It says it has 5 beneficial microbes and amino acids along with kelp and some other stuff. I think there is a lot of "bro science" out there about growing. I don't think molasses "fattens buds", not directly at least. From what I learned from taking microbiology, I believe the molasses only feeds the microbes which aide in nutrient uptake at the roots. That's all folks.

I cant wait to see how much these buds fatten up. They are already pretty beefy for being the end of week 4. Nothing really much has changed. I feed 3 tsp per gallon tiger bloom 1 tbs per gallon big bloom (trying to conserve) Wait 2 days then... Reverse Osmosis water phd down to 6.5 wait 2 days then... Compost tea 2 tsp per gallon with black strap molases 1 tbsp per gallon. This strain I noticed has 2 phenotypes. One is more like a sativa with long main cola dominance. The other is short and bushy with fat buds, i definately kept the side branches on the bushy one because the buds are just as big as the main.

calyxes are swelling. pistils are starting to ripen curling inwards and turning orange. Trichome production is getting higher. I committed a mortal sin and squeezed a bud with my hands. It was pretty dense. I was pruning a few fan leaves on the main cola that were blocking a lot of light and accidentally cut a bud off. I dried it and concluded that I lost about a gram 🙁 The nug was pretty dense for being only 5 1/2 weeks at the time.I hope they are rock hard when ready. There are some of the most unique terpenes I've ever smelled. They smell like sweetened condensed milk with a sour earthy smell with a hint of skunk. My cat loves cannabis leaves....

Very sad day today. It is the end of week 7 and I discovered bud rot on the main cola of one plant. I immediately took it out of the tent and cut the top cola off and discarded it. I decided that the spores may already be spreading so I didn't want to risk losing all my crop so I harvested the rest of my plants. This is 2 weeks premature since I planned a 9 week harvest. I harvested the rest of the plant that had bud rot. Looks like a decent amount of bud. They are drying in a seperate room. I stripped the fan leaves off every plant and will do a dry trim and cure. After The cure I will cone back and report. I am really heart broken right now. Update: final weigh in after dry and 2 days of curing was 8.5 oz of bud and 3 oz of trim with lots of popcorn buds. Will be making bubble hash with the trim. Had alot of fun dry trimming all day while listening to music and cracking a few beers. Lessons learned: 1. LED lights DO produce heat Contrary to what the companies say. 2. It is very important to have good airflow. Although i had a 4 inch inline for an active intake and a 6inch exhaust, I still should of used an oscillating fan. Even with higher humidity an oscillating fan might have prevented the bud rot. 3. For sea of green I should have cut every side branch at week 3 of flower. I was afraid of losing yield and harming the plants. Definately lollipop every sea of green. 4. Sea of green should not be done from seed. Too many different phenotypes. 5. It is very important to control the humidity especially during flowering. For small tents place a large 30 to 70 pint dehumidifier in the same room as the tent to keep humidity below 50. Bud rot is very sad it's worse than losing your first love lol. 6. Make sure I water until there is run off. Especially when giving plain water between feedings. Salt build up occurs and causes wild ph swings.

Still looks like a great harvest! I also once had bud rot on one of the biggest colas, but if you react fast enough (what you apparently did), the rest should still be fine!
Buddha2
Buddha2commented4 years ago
@sacredgeometry, I completely understand, because I was feeling exactly the same. But after two days, you should be more or less safe. Then they should be dry enough to not catch any mold anymore. I'm optimistic 😊

@Buddha2, Thank you I'm just hoping no rot proliferates while drying.

Ahhh was looking forward for the final harvest weight with the same built as yours. what you think caused the bud rot?
DTaro
DTarocommented4 years ago
@sacredgeometry, is summer here now, Rh is 45-55 most of the time pulling fresh air into tent. winter i find myself hard to control environment, even with dehumidifier I'm struggling to keep under 75% especially running dwc with lots of evaporation cat eats the leaves?
sacredgeometry
sacredgeometrycommented4 years ago
@DTaro, I felt a number of things caused the bud rot. I have my intake pulling fresh air from the outside into my tent which caused low temps. The plants loved it but I also struggled with humidity which was between 50 and 60 rh. Need to keep humidity below 50 next grow. Packing alot of plants in a small space sure didn't help. I also let my cat into the tent sometimes to help me defoliate. I'm lucky it was just one cola on one plant

it still looking good, nice big bud even for early harvest. how's the trichomes looking under the scope?
sacredgeometry

@DTaro, Trichomes were all milky. This strain has an 8 week flowering period. I was going to give them 9 weeks for extra weight.

interested to see the harvest, I got the same tent size and grow light as yours. I might try sog next growth, if the weight is good 8 plants. I'm only having 2 plants Max with the rdwc setup (limited space with the piping and buckets) of the harvest is good 8 plants sog might be my next :) I'm getting lazy with water change and tie the plant down

@DTaro, Ok I'll post lots of pictures. There will be 48 colas inside the tent lol. I already started the new diary if you want to follow it. My light distance is 18 inches for seedlings dimmed at 50 percent. Once the plant developes more nodes I turn it up to 75 percent and slowly start raising it. Towards the end of flower I had ran out of vertical space and had the light 12 inches away from the top colas at 100 percent. It didn't get light burn at all.

@sacredgeometry, that's pretty good. I got like 5 Oz only with dwc for my first grow. you going to try mainlining your next strain? post lots of pics I'm.planing to do the same. oh quick one, what are the light distance your setup Is for veg and flower

@DTaro, final weight was 8.5 oz of dried bud. 3oz of popcorn buds and trim.
