This is week 3, and boy they are growing fairly quickly! They are under a 2ft 4 bulb T5 fluorescent right now and when they get to where this light is not enough, they go in to the tent with a 500watt metal halide to finish off their veg life.

Grow Questions

How do you flush exactly in DWC? Do you just change out the reservoir with ph adjusted water? Or do you just lower the ppms(my starting water is 130-170)? Is there any flushing agents that actually work?

Yes you will switch out your nutrient treated water for plain Jane regular Ph’d water. For deep water culture you won’t need any flushing agents due to there being so soil, coco, or other water retaining medium that holds and builds up salts. If you truly wanted to use a fushing agent however my personal favorite is Sledgehammer by fox farm. I did notice some curling up of the leaves as well. This could be caused by a few factors such as: improper ph, wind burn or heat stress. Double check on all three factors and make sure that they are all in line. Best of luck on your grow and I hope you yield well!

I'm a new grower. I've been trying to find some info on how i go about knowing when "they've had enough" of the florescent lights? Currently I have a 2' 2x over top of a set of 3 (smaller) netpots. My thinking/understanding is that IF she is to survive she would need a LOT more water than what would be soaked in the medium. Hand watering doesn't seem like it would be sustainable so I assumed that at very least a few roots down in the actively aerated/bubbling zone (if not completely submerged) would be ideal? EDIT: Sorry, i'm referring to when I would know to transition them from florescent to a veg/flower light?

@MichaelMoore, there ready for more light when their roots are in the water. And on maybe their 4th or 5th node? I don't think there's really a set time, as long as their roots are in the water, go for it! Looking good do far, keep up the good work and you will be rewarded!

@DWCKhaos You are asking about your "hay smell" May I ask what is your flowering light? Led, hps, t5 And actuall watage draw... Your diary relefects your run your lamp 12" from the canopy... is this accurate?

@DWCKhaos, Looking over your Grow... of your getting a "hay smell" I would back my lights off at least 1 foot more.. The sent glands are the most sinsitive and melt or burn off at a lower temp than other terpiens and glands. You obviously are getting sick frost on your buds and there's no other reason I can think of you would have this issue Hope this helps

@Fun_Growin, I run a 750 watt HPS in flower, and I ran out of height again this time, but I got the light about 14 inches away from the canopy, and I turned the light down to 500 watts at the final week

I've had this same issue before and that was on my first grow and now this time when I had a clipped off bud and tested it had that "hay" smell. I still have my plant and worried this will happen when I chop it down. The nug tested was from an accidental branch snap in week 7 of flowering and was before any flushing could begin and was dried out fairly fast, within 4 days. I had a few ideas on why that "hay' smell was there and it was because the bud was full of nutrients or I thought I had pin pointed it to that fact it was coming from the leaves still left on during the drying process and the leaves that can't be plucked from inside the bud, it's like a bud to leaf ratio and the longer you waited to let bud grow or leafs die off whatever it was, too fresh or too early in the season weed.

@DWCKhaos Hi there! Yes you'll need to remove the old medium from your container and refill with plain PHd water. Happy growing! 👊
