Digging holes for planting and found white matter in soil How can you handle a mold/fungus at that level and would it be safe? Otherwise what size fabric pots should I get for the best outdoor results for a grow lasting over a summer for harvest in late Sept. Thanks for advice..

I used a 5:1 mixture of water:hydrogen peroxide to help with fungus gnats. That worked well in that situation the gnats went away and the plants were fine. Iโ€™d try the same here if it were me. For fabric pots for outdoor, the bigger, the better. Iโ€™d say 7 gal minimum, 10 gal (or larger) would be better. Good luck!

Hey everyone, I made some recent changes to this diary. My goal with this was to show that anyone anywhere really can grow cannabis! It occurred to me that some people may not know where to begin or how to even go about it, so I put in some very simple starter steps, and examples to hopefully help someone somewhere. I hope everyone had a great arbor day and were busy with their trees ;)

@bobo420 @growdoctordc @DAREdropout Hey guys thanks so much for the help. I transplanted her, later off the nutes, upped the lights and topped her...so hopefully things will get better. However the bugs I thought had gone, I found a few scurrying around during the trans, I guess the burrowed down in the soil and hid. I'm totally miffed and have tried to attack again, they're not climbing the plant but staying within the soil, I see no signs of any webbing or bites on leaves spotting or others. Also the video I took of them when I examined them and the video they don't quite look like many of your typical canna related bugs. I started some insecticidal soap, neem oil etc...and hope I can crush their little spirits and they'll go elsewhere. I appreciate you all so much. If anyone would want to check out the video of the bugs to give me some ideas I'd be happy to send it, for some reason it didn't let me load to the "week" due to lack of memory or space? So wish me luck on the future weeks I guess. Honestly it's breaking my growing spirit just a bit. :(

Experimentgreen
@DAREdropout, Hey you are so awesome for looking into that for me. I did read about some bugs who feed off decaying matter, I like to hope these are them...but I'm so terrified they're not. But I think you're right that if I keep not seeing marks on the plant itself maybe they're alright to be there. I initially had this grow with 2 fog plants and the #1 got thrown out. Ill have to keep a good eye out for any signs of damage. Thanks again, everyone has been so helpful, this really is a great little community.
DAREdropout
DAREdropout
@Experimentgreen, There are thousands of different types of little bugs that live in soil. Some of them feed on living plants, but my understanding is most of them feed on DECAYING organic matter. It's not uncommon at all for bagged topsoil or compost to have little critters in it. Where I'm going with this: Are you 100% that they're feeding on your plants, and not the compost in the soil? If your plant is sharing soil with these bugs, and it's not looking distressed, they may not actually be an issue! Nonetheless, two things popped into mind: 1. Predatory nematodes. Inexpensive (generally <20$) and 100% organic/chem-free. Won't stress your girls. Look 'em up on Amazon. 2. Get a really large tarp, and on a really bright, hot, dry day, spread all your soil thinly and evenly across the tarp, and bake it in the sun. Dry it to a dusty crisp. These critters need moisture to survive, and drying out your soil in the sun will force them out and send them looking a new home. This won't help your current plants, but your future grows should be a lot more bug-free. Don't let this get you down, sister! I 100% guarantee even grand master growers out there have their fair share of problems and shitty grows. It's like a clerk at my local hydro shop told me (and I wrote it down): "That's the fun and pain of growing cannabis. You never know how a grow will pan out. You think have a recipe for success, next thing you know you have a plant that refuses to stay alive. Sometimes it's something you can change, sometimes it's just the genetics of that one individual plant, and nothing you can do will make it happy. Every seed you pop is a dice roll."

@Experimentgreen, hopefully you'll manage to get it under control ;)

Ha how convenient, as soon as I edited the diary to be outdoors it did the sun calculation on its own, the closest I got was 5.89248e12, and I didn't have my scientific calculator at hand. :)

So if you are going in the ground, I assume last week, you dug the hole. You will grow a giant. So f**king cool. ๐Ÿ‘Š Apparently I will have to keep my eye on you. And we haven't even talked about the Fire OG. I have seen this one turn bright red. She will be beautiful as a giant. I wish you the best of Luck ๐Ÿ‘Š.

@Experimentgreen, That's because they're too fat..... No that box has eluded me since day one. But dont worry I'm still looking. Now if you were to build them stairs, they are probably dumb enough to find there way back home.
Experimentgreen

@Teamdirtbag2, I dont think chickens can really fly either, the one got over the neighbors4ft fence and couldn't get back over. They kinda just jump and flap and sorta hover for a second.
Experimentgreen
Experimentgreen
@Teamdirtbag2, penguins can fly, just not in the air, they fly through the water at like 20 miles per hour. :) A bird is a warm blooded, egg laying, feather having beak mouthed, sometimes flying animal. Haven't you unpacked your dictionary yet? Just search for the 50lb box and ill bet its in there.

@CRiSPrGrow, i think the pot or ground matters. Say you go from seed not clone, youll have a taproot, a taproot like in a tree or other plant can go so deep and seek out water etc, in a pot, its all on you for everything. But im sure in ground has draw backs too,

@Mr_Positivo,I listened to an incredible podcast that mentioned the silica additive of potassium silicate. It was so informative and helpful. Thanks so much for reaching out to me with advice. I'm so lucky to have had so many people willing to help me. Lol. โœŒ๏ธ

@CRiSPrGrow, Adding Silicon to your nute mix will help and is recommended . It will strengthen cell walls and make the plant more resistant to environmental stresses. Myco's will help also. Good luck.

Fascinating diary title, which made me look in the first place. Please explain an OUTDOOR GROW, 20 HOURS LIGHT per day, and that light being only 4โ€ from canopy. I like it, but Iโ€™m confused. Bugs and low humidity donโ€™t typically go together. Iโ€™m really confused now. Iโ€™m not asking for gps coordinates, but give us an idea of where on earth you are located. Sheโ€™ll do fine. And follow @DAREdropout โ€˜s advice - add quality compost

One of the great things about outdoor is the natural aspect, you can only work with what you've got. I've been following a few of your grows and I'm really stoked for you. Bugs happen, perfect light isn't always possible, huge yields of delicious nearly natural buds are though. Great work! I'll be watching

@Stinkygorilla, thanks. ๐Ÿ˜Š. Shes definitely the slow poke of the group, but maybe that's common of Fire OG? I know I've read they dislike very high heat and we've been at least mid 90s for weeks on weeks now.

LOOKING GREAT! To help with the bugs.... I've been using captain jacks deadbug that i bought from amazon. The concentrate version works best to kill whatever is in the soil, and also the "ready-to-use" spray form for the leaves. This will keep them off the plant, and out of the area you're growing in. It also helps to add sticky traps around your plants.. a layer of sand will work to keep them from getting into the soil and laying eggs. and if you have any, place cups of apple cider vinegar around the pots. the gnats will be attracted to the smell and just "drown" themselves basically. (i recommend a starbucks cup. they'll crawl into the straw hole and it becomes a trap. An eco-friendly trick is placing an open bottle of Vicks near the plants. they're unable to crawl back out lol) These are all things i'm going to do with my next grow ๐Ÿ‘Œ ๐Ÿ˜ These aren't always 100% effective, you might still see bugs but hopefully not! when you move to outdoors, watch this video i recently that could really help ๐Ÿ˜Š www.youtube.com/watch *stay blessed! -one love
Experimentgreen
Experimentgreen
@DeathCrusher92, Oh you are so kind to seek me out and give me all that great advice. I appreciate you so much. I heard vinegar cups are also good to repel the ants, they can't stand the smell. And another one especially outdoors, a tuna can or cat can with slice of apple and then filled with oil they seek the apple and sorry buggies there's no escaping after that.(great for ants, earwigs, etc).

UPDATE: we had an interesting day today, not only did I notice some red stems occuring which I'm attributing to root issues not P problems as she is getting a healthy dose. I also started trying to harden her off today and let her be outside for several hours. When taken inside she was a bit wilty, which it was nice and sunny so understandable. She picked back up after coming inside. I also noticed she has gotten dryer faster lately, she got 3/4 of gallon about 1 1/2 days ago and she's drank it up..possibly with help from the sun. I really just want to get her outside in the EARTH but apparently weather is standing in our way. Happy growing everyone.

@Experimentgreen, As far as I know all Grow Diaries accounts are free (at least currently). But you are only able to ask one question at a time. In order to ask another question you need to close the previous question by selecting an answer or removing the question.

@DudeGrowsWeed, What's up with these grow questions and "ive reached my Free account limit" I gotta purchase an account to have more? Is that how they help to fund this whole operation? If I'm going to purchase an account I hope they'll give me more letters to work with so I can at least explain my problem correctly to where its understandable. Dang.

@Experimentgreen, I would recommend using Recharge by Real Growers to boost the soil afterwards. Itโ€™s available from realgrowers.com and on Amazon. Iโ€™ve been using Recharge with all of my plants over the past couple of months and my girls absolutely love it. Itโ€™s full of tons of beneficials for the soil.
