This stuff grew great from seed. Every seed germinated. Robust growth. Resisted powdery mildew easily in yard where a Raspberry Glue nearby was consistently fighting it off. Started indoors under Kind K3 LED lighting and moved one outdoors at the summer solstice. She grew taller than me. Indoor plant was harvested mid-August, outdoor plant late September. Yield on the outdoor plant was roughly 10 times the indoor plant.

September 22 - Whew... time for a rest. Started at dawn, took about 5 hours total straight through. Not sure if she'll be ready to trim by middle of next week when I plan to disappear up north to play some golf and veg with friends for a few days. If not... the trimming will have to wait until I return. >> Turned out she dried fast. ------- I've been a proponent of washing buds ever since I had an event with spider mites and powdery mildew for indoor stuff. And after inspecting my outdoor buds this summer what I thought was cat hair was actually pollen from trees in my yard... so there's lots of stuff that accumulates on the buds especially outdoors. A you tube video that explains the process quickly and easily can be found at ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ8hJ5q4Wc0 ------- I'll weigh it all after she's dry and trimmed and ready for curing. I'm consuming the indoor version of this plant right now because she's been curing for 4 weeks already. She's pretty sweet and plenty potent. This will dwarf the indoor plant as far as yield goes. ------- September 25 - trimming complete, took the better part of two evenings. I was surprised she was dry enough to trim yesterday so we got down to it. Overall the yield was almost identical to my outdoor Raspberry Glue... within 0.1 ounces. Basically 10 ounces of trimmed bud. Trim weighs in at about 10.5 ounces total. PS >> I guess one thing that I didn't discuss a lot in this diary was how much this girl consumed fluid-wise. She basically got one gallon of fluid a day. The ONE thing I would do differently next time is a larger container. I couldn't leave town for 36 hours this summer or this baby would wilt on me, and we can't be having that. ================================================== The original intent of this diary was to compare an indoor vs outdoor grow, but being new to diaries I didn't know that wasn't part of the structural plan. Looking back at my notes I forgot to weigh the indoor Durban after trimming. I've been digging into it a lot the last week or two stashing away my other stocks of sativa (Strawberry Cough and Sour Tangie). I've still got 1.2 ounces from the new indoor Durban (already cured now)... but obviously the yield on the outdoor plant was almost 10x what I got indoors. These plants germinated at the same time from the same source and fed the same food. Primary difference besides Mother Nature taking on the lighting duties was a 5 gallon fabric pot vs a 3 gallon fabric pot for the indoor plant. The outdoor plant was moved outside at the summer solstice and at that time the tent lighting was switched to flowering for indoor plants. I harvested the indoor plant in mid-August, so the outdoor plant got about 4 extra weeks to veg. Makes me wonder what in blazes I'm doing growing plants indoors when I can get that kind of yield outdoors. Ummmm... probably because I enjoy it... but still. No more winter crops dude ... focus on the summer crop ... stick to seeds if you can. Happy growing folks! ๐Ÿ˜›0

I was hoping for a qualifying finish, but #1... wow... I'm humbled by the honor. Now I have one less decision what to grow next summer. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

@Mrs_Larimar, my pleasure. We get attached to our girls when they grow. This baby was special. Way more than I can consume here. Sharing with everyone I know. Still have seeds to grow. Next time a bigger container. ๐Ÿ˜

Bud washing!? Interesting! I've never heard of it before, but you bet I spent the last 4 hours researching it. How would you say it effects the end product after dry/cure?
dalemac
dalemac
@Horantu, I like the end result. I'd have to say that my washed herb actually dries faster than previous grows that were unwashed. Sounds counterintuitive but my theory is that the baking soda/lemon juice also acts as an astringent. In this case I was able to snap small branches within about 60 hours after harvest and wash. In the old days I used to wait 4 or 5 days... or maybe I'm just getting old. Another video to check out is Jorge Cervantes. If Jorge is down with this... so am I. ๐Ÿ˜ vimeo.com/275728566

@bobo420, thanks again... sometimes I'm not sure who stresses more, the plants or the caretakers. Have to keep reminding myself they're weeds. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

@dalemac, you're welcome ;) I think it's not worth the hassle to cut down the light cycle or to have a longer dark cycle... it's still going to be messed up information coming from the lights, better to keep that on minimum, in my opinion. I think that other parameters make greater difference when transferring out
dalemac
dalemac
@bobo420, Thanks. Curious if you have any advice on transitioning plants outside. I currently use an indoor light cycle of 7pm->1pm (for electrical cost purposes). Is it worth fussing cutting back from 18 hours to something less this last week for light cycle acclimation?... and on the day I actually move everybody, is it smarter to have a long dark cycle on the night before that switch?

@dalemac, great job man! I hope my CKS turn out this nice, it'd be sick to win some bonus stuff, you deserved it for sure!

@ButtersStotch, The harvest date was September 22 and the daytime temps were in the high 70s; she started indoors and was moved outdoors around the solstice in June. It was a fun diary to make; I had no idea when I started it you could win things - but this diary brought me a lot more than some great herb. ๐Ÿ˜

@Tonino, Awfully glad I put that tomato cage over her many moons ago, but structurally she's very sound. Easier to support buds that grow vertically as opposed to horizontally I suppose. I expect she will ripen quickly with the cooler nighttime temps.

I hear you on the seeds versus clone match up. The other benefit starting from seed, IMO, is structural. Seeded plants have better structure and will be more easily scrogged. I am dealing with this issue right now, funnily enough. cheers.
dalemac
dalemac
@Mr_Positivo, Yeah the seeds seem to lend themselves to more vigorous growth. I'm curious how my "runt" seed will fare in the long haul vs the other 4 girls which outran her. It's the seed that almost didn't germinate (ended up 5 for 5 so can't complain) and I hate to hold that against her But... part of me says that it's a sign that seed was less viable than the other 4. I'll put her in a 5 gallon pot and probably grow her indoors to see if she can overcome the couple weeks lag behind the other girls.

@PharmaZ, No question I could transplant now, but the plan is Wednesday for other logistical reasons like space availability in my garage. I actually cut back on nutrients (to 25% of recommended levels) out of fear and reading elsewhere... you can always add nutrients back, but burn might hurt worse. Wasn't sure what to do here - more nutes or less and went conservative. Only one of my DPs is showing this odd color and behavior like non-symetrical leaves. Must be the Trump of the litter. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

dalemac

@Fergie, Wind has become a much more significant factor than I remember in past grows. I grew a few small crops in my backyard a decade ago and never faced the kind of windy conditions we seem to have now. Not a coincidence that one of my biggest plants last fall blew over and sustained major damage the same night the fires started in Napa/Sonoma - about a hundred miles north of me. Still got a pretty good yield but the early harvest made it a little different spacey-wise. ๐Ÿ˜€

Imagine if you had used a 20 gallon bag! Youโ€™d yield huge and get to go outta town
