**Wednesday 4/14/201 - Tuesday 4/20/2021**
I started to see signs of tip burn this week in the newer growth. I was afraid I was running to hot with the nuts, and now it is confirmed. I think I definitely made a mistake running the recommended 5ml of CalMag this week. My reasoning for going that high was the white tips I was seeing in the new growth. Additionally, I believe the recommended A+B mix at 9ml is definitely on the highest end. I found an older DWC chart for H&G which recommended 6ml as apposed to their new chart showing 9ml for week 4 of flowering. I will definitely be lowering my nuts for week 5. I should probably flush, but I'm not going to for now and just keep an eye on things the early part of week 5.
Due to me not anticipating the way this plant was going to grow, and that my trellis was initially too high, I clearly didn't do a good job getting it setup this grow. When I resized the trellis during this grow, it created slack in the chicken wire, causing the middle of the plant to grow higher than the outsides. Now my middle area is maybe 4" or more high than the outsides of the plant and my lighting isn't optimal to those areas. I will definitely be changing how I do my trellis for my next grow. I've got what I think are some good idea's, but I need to put them to practice in my room to make sure it works how I want before I start popping beans. I think one of the biggest hurdles doing a ScrOG with Hydro is where to put the trellis. I think my idea of attaching it to the lid gets the job done, but it is not ideal. Moving the trellis around in the tight space I'm growing is a recipe for damaged buds. In the future my idea revolves around a semi-fixed trellis that doesn't move the whole grow, but I will still be able to do weekly cleaning of my reservoir/bucket. In addition to my 5 Gallon bucket, I'd also like to be able to facilitate a 10 Gallon tote for growing two auto's at a time, or maybe two 3.5 Gallon buckets. We will see what I can come up with next grow.
I have defoliated this week 4 days in a row starting Friday. I didn't take as much off during each defoliation as last week in hopes of not stressing the plant. I probably took around 30 leaves a day roughly. This thing is just shitting out so many leaves I'm torn about how much I should be defoliating. Everything I've seen so far says I can defoliate through week 5 of flowering. I will probably defoliate again in a few days from now.
I did a bunch of research into PAR, PPFD, LUX, etc. Based off of that research, I dropped my light to 14" above the tallest buds on Thursday 4/15. By the end of the week it was more like 12" above as they had stretched. I used a LUX app on my cellphone to get a rough approximation of what my real PPFD was, and I don't think I am at risk of light burn even at 12". After reflecting on this, I think my current light will be perfect for auto's, but currently is sub-optimal for photo's. I will probably be growing auto's for the forseeable future.....until I get an Electric Sky ES300 that is 😁 That is definitely a ways off though, and like I said the PB2000 should theoretically be more than enough for auto's in my grow room.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, I'd say I got about 2" of additional stretch this week. I believe this is because I vegged the plant longer than probably 90% or more of DWC growers veg. If my screen had been another 5" or more lower I probably could have swapped to flowering faster. I was wanting to go for maximum harvest though. I'm not sure what I've done this grow is going to acheive that or not. My ScrOG is a total cluster, and I'm hoping I can avoid any kind of mold/mildew/rot. I'm running my dehumidifer even more now, but it is creating higher temps. I'm going to have to keep playing around with that.
Is this root rot? I have fixed my temps in the last 4 days. I am already using H&G Roots Excelurator. Is Hydroguard better or should I use both? I also tried fixing light leaks. Any other suggestions?
You should be using both. As the last person said root accelerate nutrient helping grow roots faster, while hydrogaurd is a beneficial bacteria that will keep your roots healthy during harsher environment. Things like slightly higher res temps.
@PigBearMan, I'm sorry to hear that man. Most of my family is from the southern states so I understand exactly what your saying. Luckily I'm in a fairly temperate area, although the winters can be harsh. However, I'm growing indoors so it's much easier to deal with than high humidity and temps.
@Bertoxxulous, where i live the temperatures and the RH are pretty shitty. Summer, 28°C and 65% RH. Good for veg but not for flowering and smoking. It's like a fucking sponge. Like wet camp fire. I putting my 7 weeks old weed still in the microwave for 15 sec. Ridicolous. Will not grow next summer for sure.
@Bertoxxulous, yeah I am the same I couldn’t take to vaping and I bought the mighty vaporiser (just not the same) so I smoke blunts much nicer! Well the terpene most at this stage I thought limonene and that’s where the real lime/citrus taste. But also a spicy background which could be the caryophyllene. I am curing for a few weeks and I just know this will get better!
@TheGreenQueen420, Thank you so much! I cannot freaking wait! I saw your harvest pics, and you did an excellent job!!! All I have right now is shitty vape pen cartridges and I'm almost out of those too. I will never buy a vape pen cartridge ever again after this. I thought it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but boy was I wrong. Maybe others feel differently, but I do not like them. Are there any distinct terpene you are picking up?
