Wondering if there's a phosphorous deficiency cropping up and whether or not feed bloom nutes tonight or to water? I'm leaning on feeding because I noticed this issue has gotten worse with 24 hours... Update 6/10: Still showing what I think is a nute lock out on lower leaves from a too low PH. I flushed with 2 gallons of PH 7.2 but runoff was still around 6.6. Will let that sit for 2 days and feed again with bloom nutes and PH 7 ish.

Grow Questions

PussyWagon6969started grow question 7 years ago
I think like my plant is beginning to flower...? I have not used any nutes yet but I have Fox Farms Trio and am wondering should I start the bloom nutes or use veg nutes on my next water? When do I switch to flower nutes if I start with veg nutes? I water every ~4 days...

I'd consider this still veg personally. I don't consider the plant switched over to flower until after its into its flowering stretch and putting out small bud sites. I'd go with the veg nutes with the next watering and I'd also go 1/2 (or 1/4) strength. Autos seem to do better with lower nute levels and can get nutrient burn at full strength. Good luck!

@dudegrowsweed decided to defoliate the stuff below canopy that was looking under developed. Too aggressive for a lil auto 5 weeks in? For or better or for worse, I'm about to learn a lot LOL check out the latest pics (Day 37)

@DudeGrowsWeed, phewww. This first grow is a bit nerve wracking because there's no real experience to know what to expect after experimenting. Thanks for checking in and helping me along!

@Jaindoh, thanks for the insight! Definitely feels a bit slowed down compared to other Auto diaries I see but but she seems healthy which is all I can ask for. Can't wait to see what she'll be like at week 10!

@PussyWagon6969, I'd stick with veg nutes for now. Switch to flowering nutes once you can easily see the bud sites. I would wait for the bud sites to be about the size of marbles or dimes. Hope that helps!

@DudeGrowsWeed, Since your comment I've done one feeding and just last night did one watering with PH'd water. She's moving right along and looks happy (I think)! I added another close-up picture of today's (day 33) bud sites and am wondering if you think the next round of feeding (3 days from now) should still be veg nutes? Thanks for your input!

@Jaindoh hope all is well with your grow! Would you mind taking a look at my pics from this week? I started flushing a week ago because they 'feel' ready but I'm honestly not sure... I tried some sample bud (the oldest cola) from last weeks partial harvest and it was super heady... little more heady than I'd like. It's weird because some of the bud tips are turning a grayish purple and I'm not sure if that means they've gone past the harvest window or that means they are getting nice and ripe..? Any insight is appreciated!

@PussyWagon6969, i only have one rule for myself about that, and it's in the vein of "when we win, we celebrate" there were a lot of ancient peoples and religions, but one common theme: harvest = feast =) your mileage may vary ;P

PussyWagon6969commented6 years ago
@Jaindoh, Thanks man, guess I'll be having a trim party around this weekend then! Damn, I didn't know people try to harvest within hours...that's some serious precision for the typical 'one week window'.
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommented6 years ago
@PussyWagon6969, You're inside the harvest window now. If you want, you can take it cola by cola, or the whole thing. Some will be a little more up, some a little less. You could wait a day or two. The semi-cloudy ones will get cloudier, but some of those cloudy's might go amber. Sleepy pot isn't terrible, either. What you want is for the stems to be looking less glass and flaccid, more plastic and erect. Since you're in soil, you can flush more than one week as well. Good to remember next time. I use a 100x but mine is really really crappy and I get inconsistent results from poor readings. Not the best guy to ask about hitting that harvest within hours of 80% cloudy. I need to buy a tablet and a microscope, or a new phone and a microscope, I suppose. This is the guide I use: https://www.growweedeasy.com/harvest

Looking good! Looks like she could use the humidity higher to transpire better, but that's not too hard. I've been struggling to keep my young plants at 60-70% and 20-22c (68-72f) to keep them h appy myself. What I do is use foliar. Particularly when I can't get it up into the right range in the chart, or even not -- slightly less frequently. 1ml/liter(4 liters to a gallon) calmag, very weak food, rooting supplement. Works wonders. Doing well =) http://www.just4growers.com/stream/temperature-humidity-and-c02/vapor-pressure-deficit-the-hidden-force-on-your-plants.aspx
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommented7 years ago
@PussyWagon6969, I run a humidifier outside my veg tent, yeah. You can get a cheapo one even. All I know about the other thing is that I had several crops before I started really watching humidity. They were always dry and over-transpiring, I had not started using foliar when they are like that, yet. Since I have begun keeping an eye on my VPD charts, air temperatures, temperatures of the leaves, keeping it cooler and moister, my vegging has been much more vigorous. Particularly since I'm operating without central a/c, it takes up a lot of free time making sure the atmosphere is right. I'd say temp/humidity is more important than brand of nutrients, it's right up on the top priority list.
PussyWagon6969
PussyWagon6969commented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, thanks for the link! I only have 17" x 17" floor space and not much room outside of the tent to duct humid air in either... I was thinking one of those small table top humidifiers on Amazon that I could just pop in the corner of the tent below my pot. Any recommended small humidifiers that could fit in my tent? Also, I read that if you start your plants in low RH you can effectively "harden" them to the conditions... what are your thoughts on that?

First grows are scary but also exciting! Liked and followed; let us know if you have any further questions =) So long as your roots are fine and the leaves took the damage, you should be good. Maybe stunt it a little. If something did happen to the roots, you'll know because it'll be extra stunted. Judging by how you stressed it, and how well it has recovered... I suspect everything will work out just fine =)
PussyWagon6969
PussyWagon6969commented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, Thanks for the note! I'm definitely stoked on the recovery so far...currently abroad with my lady watching the plant... the anticipation to get home and check in is rough lol.
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommentedweek 77 years ago
Now is the perfect time to thin out those leaves shading all of that middle stuff, and cut off anything at the very bottom not getting any light. Any later, and you're still fine -- it's just ideal to lessen impact and make sure the plant can still recover during the flower. I think if you do that you would see some big things happening in the middle of all that over the next week. Doing great =)

@Jaindoh, gotcha, so it’s no joke when they say these things are pretty resilient!
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommented7 years ago
@PussyWagon6969, fuhgeddabout it. worst case is they get droopy during a part of their rooting or vegging or flowering waves. i always start real early due to this, get them used to it. even if they do, it's super minor, like LSTing them good, if even.
PussyWagon6969
PussyWagon6969commented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, noted. What are the chances of herming on an auto after defoliating like this? That's what I'm worried about...

I would lean toward feeding more as well. Just remember to double check the pH; the first time I did Ocean Forest and Trio I had some real bad issues by thinking I didn't need to. If you haven't been, it's not a terrible idea to catch some runoff and run a test on that. Know that the strips won't work for that, it requires a pen.
Jaindoh
Jaindohcommented7 years ago
@PussyWagon6969, partial harvest is great, ive been told (and feared) shocking the plant that late but tbh any shock after it quits making leaves/veg growth *seems* to send it into "panic, mature now" mostly i have too many colas, too many plants, too many jars curing, and too shitty of a 100x non-powered microscope XD
PussyWagon6969
PussyWagon6969commented7 years ago
@Jaindoh, I think the deficiency has slowed down since the flush but not 100% confident yet. I will feed her tomorrow morning and continue monitoring... I have another question for you about partial harvesting... My latest picture upload shows that the more mature buds are about 2 weeks ahead of the less mature ones... Ideally, I'd like to harvest all at once because I'm scared a partial harvest may result in herming... any tips/advice? Thanks in advance!

@Jaindoh, thanks for checking in! I noticed in my log book my runoff ph had been sitting around 6.1-6.3 for the last month... sensing a phosphorus lockout (thats what the leaves look like) and flushed tonight with 2 gals of ph 7.2. Runoff was still ph6.5 so I’m gonna feed in two days again with ph 7 ish again... I’ll let you know how it goes!

It seems that she's starting to develop a phosphorus deficiency. I think tonight I'm going to flush with PH'd water and feed with bloom nutes this evening. Although, I would rather wait another day for her to dry out I don't want this problem to spread anymore than it already has...

@Coopman, interesting...so maybe I'll just keep the eye on PH and give it another week before considering a re-feed. Thanks for the insight!

@PussyWagon6969, I can tell you that my TD does not like nutrients. I feel like every time I have given her some it is brought up a new weekly problem. With water only she is doing great. I was following fox farm schedule and hit her with a quarter dose of grow and bloom but it bleached out my leaves. Water for me the rest of my grow. Your plant looks great by the way. Much bigger than mine. Good luck
