Any advice on how to prevent excessive stretch in the first few weeks of bloom. I would like the nodes to be closer together for nicer top colas.

Just have the right environment. Growth is slower during the day and they stretch more at night. If they're stretching too much, there's probably added growth during the day which points to the lighting being too weak. Make sure you're at the right height.
Your internodal spacing doesn't look bad though.

I think beyond correct light distances there isn't much you can do as it comes down to genetics, but the spacing doesn't look too bad at the moment..
