Carbon Filter

Hello growers! I'm thinking of removing carbon filter's outter fabric. It affects my exhaust dramatically. Does anyone knows if this is going to make it insufficient or ruin it? (i think that this layer prevents humidity entering carbon particles)

Hello.. Hope you are well.. If its a throw away filter and u cant refill it then yes remove ur filter.. If ut makes u feel happy that ur grow will benefit then do it.. U know ur grow room better than anyone.. I do it myself for the same reason and i only use budget carbon filters so they go to scrapyard in the end.. I wud say that if u do decide to remove it u will get alot of dust particles dropping to start with,.. Best do it away from plants n give it a quick hoover.. Stay safe n gud luck with ur garden.. 👍🍀

I noticed the same thing with my outer filter. I removed it about a year ago. A cheap Vivosun carbon filter is still going strong 18 months later running almost 24/7. good luck!

wow, thanks for the answers! Yes,i dont really have a proper cfm fan. i got a small one, that mostly used for incoming air flow. i'm not concidering expenses.Thats a serious risk we're taking here. Noise is the problem,so yes without fabric i get 3 x airflow. Dust particles in room is also a problem :D

I have never experienced any issues with the pre-filter fabric. The effect which it has on exhaust should be negligible. A few questions: And have you tested the filter without the fabric to confirm your hypothesis that the pre-filter fabric is the accurate causation of this reduction? Are you using a filter which is suitable for your exhaust fan? The filters will come recommended for a specific fan CFM range. Are you sure your fan is powerful enough for the specific carbon filter? Could the reduction in exhaust efficiency be caused by something else such as bends in ducting? I mean you can remove that pre-filter but it will reduce the lifespan of the carbon filter. It's on them for a reason. It prevents larger particles in the air from entering the filter. It will make your grows more costly in the long run. The choice is yours!

Why remove it? That is your carbon filters' filter. Removing that will allow particles to enter your carbon and fan....you can remove it to wipe or clean down and you can buy replacement "sheets" online. Maybe you just need a whole extraction upgrade.

A humidity issue indeed. Small exhaust fan struggling to suck air throu filter. Bigger/louder fans not an option.

That fabric is a filter itself. It should stay on. Is this a humidity issue?
