Hi there! I'm pretty sure it is just salt buildup but can you wash it off or something? Maybe if you dissolve some in water and measure the ec you can be sure about this. Whitr pointy things are roots I believe and that is a goos thing cos now they will dry from the tip and they produce more hair roots everywhere!!

i wouldn't try to wash it off now.. it's better unavailable to the plants at the moment.. do that afterward. It's perfectly fine. But, do clean them between uses.

If you want to rid your plants or pots of calcium buildup, use a simple acid like lemon juice or vinegar to dissolve the calcium salts. We recommend mixing 1 parts lemon juice to 3 parts water (a 25% solution) OR 1 parts vinegar to 4 parts water (a 20% solution). Found this on a site. Never tried it thou!

This is most likely calcium buildup from hard water. Are you filtering your water in anyway? A good ro system or even a carbon filter for a hose can solve this. They are also useful in taking out all the chlorine in tap water. Hopefully this will help! Happy Growing!
