You'll be much happier with the results and quality grown under the HPS.
I would highly recommend checking out the 315w / 630w ceramic metal halides. They run cooler, efficiently, and have great UV output. A 630w CMH is comparable to a 1000w HPS.
If you're looking at moving to LED, results come at a price. The Mars panels lacked final bud quality and longevity (I've seen more than my fair share die). Currently the bar style LEDs have both the efficiency and coverage required for decent results in a 4x4 space. I'm testing these in 2 rooms with great results so far:

I would say specifically a phlizon 1500w (300 true wats) if you are on a budget or the Optic's similar light if you have money and want a light that has a 10 year warranty instead of 2 years. (The wattanty doesnt mean its gonna stop working after that time, its just that after that period you are the one paying for repairs.)
In terms of power and aspect they are twins, pratically the same light but one is made in china.
