Outdoor Bonsai: Root Pruning instead of Repotting?? Thoughts??

I figured I would start off my first grow question with a bang: I'm thinking about turning Barry into Bonsai Barry. So basically, put him in the 7Gal pot and root prune where ideally you would repot (I would say 2-3 times knowing that I'm early).. 3..... 2...... 1....... SHOOT

hey there Smartie, root pruning totally works but it's even more fun in hydro. in soil the roots are in the soil so contrary to hydro you cant just pick up the plant take your scissors and cut the roots. Try both you'll see a huge difference. Root pruning in soil you can also do chemically with a chelation agent that can break down the roots for you as you go along. you can get really impressive results using humic acid regularly. hope this helps ! 🚀

I have fabric pots which is pretty much the next best thing if not the same. I'm just a bit worried that 7Gal as end pot is too small for 20 weeks of veg (yes, I'm too early 😁) and that in flower there will be not enough medium to provide water and nutes. Have 2 more plants that I will keep in the 7Gal just wanted to do something radical with this one. 😉 I know about bonsai moms for clones but can't find much about growing bonsai style and flower in the same season.. Cheers for the reply! 👍
