I am running the Viparspectra 450w LED as my light for 4 autos in a 2x4 space. I am worried this isn’t enough, especially because of its lower levels of red. Should I upgrade to something stronger like a Mars hydro 600 or 1000 before flowering start?Or if not Mars something else?

Wattage or power consumption is a bullshit figure that has no relevance to anything other the a lamps efficency. What you need to chexk is the light is giving full spectrum that you require and that has enough usable PPF to cover your grow area. The watts are only how much power is consumed to acheive this. Dont get suckered into the Watts game It matters not as long as the panel produces the required photons. The wattage just shows us the photon efficency. I am a live sound engineer and its the same in my trade. Some fool comes along and says "awww mate that sub is so loud how many watts is that?" well that does not matter what matters is the sound pressure being created by the given power consumption. This is called efficeny and wattage is a reflection of that.

I'll never grow autos again- at least indoors. I thought that it would be a nice experiment and maybe get some good herb in a short amount of time to smoke while I'm waiting for my photo period plants to mature. The result is subpar herb that took my time, space, nutrients, electricity, and soil without a decent return. The plants were completely healthy throughout harvest. The genetics were trustworthy. The trichomes looked ripe. It smelled great. I dried it, cured it, and it is just not impressive at all. I used the top of the line (at the time) 550 v2 Rspec lights from HLG. i49 says auto BB is one of the strongest autos around... I guess if you are growing outside and can let it get good and deep and have plenty of sun and water it is nice to be able to get more than one harvest in a season... if the weed was worth smoking. So IMHO no amount of high quality lighting is going to make up for subpar genetics... which is exactly what ruderalis is... Use photo period plants, Period. They will give you the best chance at getting great results even with smaller lights- you just won't max out your potential.... kinda like driving the speed limit in a Ferrari... it's still lots of fun compared to the 10-year-old minivan I'm driving now... lol. Good luck.

Also if you are after a great light for 2x4 have a look at this review of the Mars Hydro SP3000. It has the best result this chap has ever seen on a led light for that space. Destroys spider farmers for that size and as the guy says in the review " ive never seen such good readings from a lamp this price, in fact ive not seen readings like this at any price point" https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/grow-light-guide/mars-hydro-sp-3000-field-test-review/

Is it pulling 450W? I have the Viparspectra V450 and it’s actual power draw is 200W. One of these will only cover half your tent. Mars Hydro is always a good option to upgrade. The Spider Farmer SF2000 is nice too and it fits a 2x4 perfectly. I’ve gotten great results with it, and it’s a little cheaper.

It's not really a 450w lamp tho. - Judging by their TC600 (I can't find the 450 on their site) I'd say it's a 160 - 190w lamp.. Wattage isn't really the most important thing to look for tho. I recommend checking Nobody01 entry for the "copywriting competition", called "lighting an area". - It'll give you a good idea of what too look for in a lamp. With that said, my Viparspectra V300, works fine for 3 plants. So yours could probably work for 4. - Haven't used it for flower yet tho, I bought an R900 instead. But I'm vegging plants right now, to place under the V300 soonish as well.
