600w hps or LED? Thanks!

The only reason I’m leaning for the hps is a friend can give me one for 30 with a 400w dual spec and 600w 2000k. The ballast also has a switch for 400w and 600w. the led I want is 150. So I’m saving 120 which can go to the electric bill. My extractor does 322m3/hr. and I could always invest in a cool tube after depending on how hot it actually is.

Hi EMA. Iam an LED fan. And a friend of a smnall electricity bill. Its true the only thing that stopped me growing indoor was the high electricity costs of the HPS.... then times changed and led got better and i started to grow indoors And this year Quantumboard got very pricy..... and i wont change at all

for an 80x80 grow I think that the ideal without cooltube would be a HPS 250w more than enough, and it is quite hot. your extractor takes how many m³ per hour?

yep you can get a 600w dimmable light and ballast that way you can run them on either 250w 400w or 600w depending on needs also get a cool tube

I’m growing in a 80x80 with a 250w cfl and a 50w led that runs very hot and I need to run a oil heater to keep the temps between 20-25 so I don’t think heat coming from it would be too much a issue it may even save me having the heater on so high if it runs that hot. I’m also running a fox 4 inch extractor. Possibly go with a 400w hps? What do you guys think?

this has several factors. depends on the size of the grow, for hps 600w it must be at least 1Mx1M and it must have cooltube and a high power extractor, so you will also have to have a larger filter and you will also have more heat in the grow. you will pay more than the electricity bill, so there are many more expenses.HPS is always better in terms of speed of growth and final production but a 250w led preferably with IR and UV lights the results are very close to a 600W HPS and you don't have a third of the problems

I prefer an LED because there is less heat It puts out.
