You are fine , people will often say not to do it with an HID bulb because if you leave the light to close it will burn up your plant . Provided your light is high enough above your canopy 20 inches or so you should be fine , you may also want to consider a way of ventilation to help facilitate this process . I always start my seedlings with HID bulbs , you can look at all my grows they are all done the same way in respect to the lighting . The only reason you would use LED or CFL bulbs to start your plant is so that you can essentially keep the light right on the plant preventing it from "stretching" with lower heat . To me that's just a waste of time and money so I just do it HID .People often use lower wattage lighting because the plant can only absorb so many photons in the leaves as well but I mean if you plant seeds outside the son has a ridiculous photon rating and the plants live haha . Based on what I see in your pictures your plants are doing fine with now signs of heat stress at all . I would even consider lowering your light by 5 inches or so so the light penetration is stronger . Over all your seedlings look happy and healthy and if you think its working well for you then don't change anything :) . I hope this information helps you understand the various ways to grow a seedling and that you dont need LED or CFL to do it , you can do it with HID you just have to be a little more cautious . -Happy Growing!

You’re spraying light on the floor ... wasting money and energy. A 4x55w StarLite from SuperPlant will give much more Lux as you can put it closer to the seedlings with no worries for the heat. Under HID’s, seedlings goes looney for the light if you don’t put any fans to stop them stretching as your HID must be far enough to avoid any lights burns , by the way if your seedling start to stretch for the light it means your light is too far ! So, starting seedlings under HID’s is a waste of money and not the best lightening for young seedlings !

If you don't have another alternative to HID for the seedling stage, then start at 18 inches (45 cm). I would recommend using screw in LED bulbs for the seedling stage instead, you can use them much closer and much less power.
