420Coderanswered grow question 4 years ago I'm no expert, been growing for personal use about 5 years. And I was off to a rough start. Made plenty of mistakes. Still do, just less often. These plants can still survive some rather egregious mistakes I've found.
Here is what has worked for me.
1. I stopped using soil. Only use coco fiber now. Hydro will produce bigger yields. But I find coco to be big enough and less trouble.
2. I stopped frequent watering. I water every three days, or if the water meter says too dry. Towards end of flower they consume more water so adjustments need to be made. When I do water, it's a much larger amount and drains through the bottom. Make sure it is at the right ph of course. Very important to do that.
3. I use fabric pots. I don't worry about drowning the plant and more air gets to the root system.
4. Although today was a bad day and I overheated the tent, ideally keep the temperature below 82. 75-80 is ideal, depending on strain.
5. Buy good lights. I have had good yields using an array of compact florescents. But good LED lights have made a difference and make it easier to control temperature.
6. Easy on the nutrients. Make sure the right NPK balance based on the stage of the plant. I don't spend much on nutrients and get decent yields. Don't laugh, but miracle grow works LOL. I buy other supplements too, but miracle grow is the staple. Could probably manage with that alone.
7. Airflow. Necessary to control smell with filters, but also keep air moving through the (properly trimmed) branches. Reduces mold also.
I probably wouldn't win any competitions, but those things combined with some common sense will deliver above average yields. The less love I give my plants, the better they seem to do. Often less is more.
