Should I have thinned out more shoots b4 I sent it to flower?

Hi, I was wondering if on future I should thin out the shoots a bit more b4 i turn it to flower to get more light penatration down lower and not be so cramped together. Would i be better of having less buds that may grow bigger or would I just be losing yield if I did that.
