Hello! I was wondering when is the best time to defoliate autos so they focus on bud production. I am going into week 5 and they are flowering pretty nicely! When do you folks usually lollipop your girls?

Hello My friend, Now your plants look amazing very healthy nice dark green leaves and light preflowering. I would say no. Cannabis plants have evolved over thousands of years to produce their biggest fattest buds in order to attract male pollen and reproduce. if she would benefit from having her fans removed she would of evolved to do so. Each healthy leaf you remove is taking all that surface area off the plant which would of used it to convert the light into energy to make your buds biggers. Now with auto flower strains defoliation is not advised because they already have a predetermined life cycle. If you stress them you may end up adding 2 or 3 weeks on to the ending flower stage. Some people top and lollipop autos and defoliate at all stages Its my opinion that you should defantly not defoliate in the first 2 or 3 weeks of the flower cycle the plant is already going through a very dramatic change. adding even more stress onto her at this point could inhibet her flower growth and lead to abnormal flowers or hermies in bad cases. Though I would never advise you not to do anything you do what you want bro its your plant :) Wishing you the best of luck for the rest of cycle :)

Hello mate, imo never defoliate autos or train them or any of those things u do to regulars. Apart those leaves that are dead and u can just pull them leave her alone she knows best. Check my diaries.

Just selectively defoliate a few leaves here and there that are blocking bud sites. I do this weekly with autos until they are just focusing on bud production. I do this and I swear the girls perk up straight away leaves pointing upwards. I believe that they like a good defoliation now and again. Better air flow around bud sites and a nice clean canopy. Don't forget buds swell more when they have airflow around them. Don't go crazy , but take a few leaves and she'll thank your for it.

Hey Martinezjd361, It is my belief that if she was healthy for the flip then I give her a couple days after that maybe like 4-5 and then lollipop and defoliate. The trick is to not defoliate so much that the plant slows water uptake to much. So be careful to not remove too much leaves. As stated in the other post stress can really do heavy damage to your plants but it can also push them to produce big chunky buds. Then let her leaf out again and after a couple more weeks I defoliate for the last time in week 3 of flower or when the plant is taking up the water heavily again. The plant will let you know when she is healed. This is ,in my opinion, one of the greatest techniques to develop your bud sites.
