Was wondering if you should dry the plant as a whole or cut individual stems and dry those out?

do you live in a high humidity area or not? For me, it's one more tool in the bag to do it "right" relative to my changing environment. in winter i cut and hang entire plants or at least full sections of the plants for easy hanging between forks... very dry (and a bit cooler) inside my house due to furnace running. I want to slow the process down as much as possible. in the summer i like to use mesh racks and cut down to similar sized buds or similar total mass if smaller buds together. I get 80-100RH and fair amount of heat, so it's quite wet.

It is really up to you and what space you have. I hang upside down...whole plant with just the leaves within buds. I believe it dries better that way, slower. I do believe if I cut it up my harvest would suffer by drying to quick...destroying terpenes.... But thats me.....
