How to move a big cannabis plant?

It's a boy... Any ideas on how to move this beast? He's 5ft in diameter, has a support cage & trellis as well. He has to be moved within the next couple weeks before he pollinates. I would like to collect his pollen & make seeds. Any ideas welcome, thank you ahead of time.

Prune it back to only a few branches then dig it up and transplant it elsewhere, far away from your ladies. Try and take a root ball 12-18 inches square and about 2 feet deep. Water well with seaweed extract about 12 hours before digging him up, then water in well with seaweed extract again once transplanted. Only a few bunches of male flowers will produce enough pollen for hundreds and hundreds of seeds. I harvest male flowers then leave them in a dark cupboard on a ceramic dish to open and shed pollen. Ceramic dishes work well as the pollen does not stick to them. A gentle shake will dislodge any extra pollen once the flowers open, it is then easy to collect the pollen from the dishes. Dilute the pollen with corn flour 50/50 and apply to young female flowers full of white juicy pistils with a very small paint brush. Diluting th pollen with corn flour extends it and makes it easy to see when applied to the female flowers and does not reduce its effectiveness, as only one grain of pollen is needed to make a seed. Tie a piece of string/wool etc to the pollinated branches for easy identification and so you don't harvest them by mistake too early. Pollinated the lower branches on your chosen females, this way you can harvest the tops and leave the seeded branches to mature, as seeds take a good 4-5 weeks to mature after pollination. I have been using this method for years and it works a treat! Congratulations on your journey of creating your own strains, but be warned, it becomes addictive! On a side note, your solar garden lights can hinder flowering and in extreme cases even cause hermies! Hope this helps, Organoman.

Thank you very much for the ideas & thorough details. I'm unsure of what process I'm taking yet...I have another two weeks or so to decide still, sacs are just forming & very small - not even clusters yet. I've made strains several times using homegrown pollen - I use both fresh & store some in the freezer for future breeding. But I've never had to deal with such a large plant that was rooted directly in the ground. I'll watch him closely & do whatever I choose well before the sacs open. I really appreciate it 😁 THANK YOU ALL!

High Cheetah, You can make him a lot smaller before moving him. Just train it into a decent size plant and the best would be growing it in a tent (or greenhouse) so that it doesn't pollinate unwantedly. You can collect the pollen and use a brush to pollinate any female carefully without all the girls around it. Happy Growing! 😋

I would cut the whole plant and let just a small branch. Only one pollen sack is enough to pollinate a plant sufficient to generated around 30+ seeds. You may cover it when pollen sacks is ready to open, them take the cover (plastic bag) and put over another plant. A male this size would be a problem for everyone miles away from you! Pollinated plant don't produce resin, they just stop and put focus on seeds.

How much pollen would you need? Normally not much pollen is needed for making regular seeds. I would spray mist of water over the entire plant. And cut most of the branches off. Then plants can survive with less root if branches are removed.

After writing all that out, with a big plant like that it probably be best to just do a transplant so speak with some of that root ball remaining. Given the size of it you don’t need all that size either. I’d be tempted to chop maybe half the branches off as well just to make things easier to navigate

Chop him soon before any pollen sacs are viable enough to be disturbed.. BUT still very much present.. like when they’re clusters of - few already started. Find an isolated spot, put it in a jug of water like a Christmas tree almost. Enough to give it some some sustenance. It’s going to still move on with biological processes but start to die also. It will eventually start dying and opening up the sacs on their own and you can collect that way. I’ve done this on a small scale and worked fine. Also you could attempt to dig out a 2x2 root mass and transfer to small contact for the same reason. Let it live enough that it can drop pollen but NOT near your females. Just my thought and I’ve done it on a smaller scale. That pollen is in there it’s just not quite mature and ready to drop.. so if you can delay that and isolate it. That’s what ya want.
