How do i see the trichomes clearly to tell if to harvest or not, with a loupe ad just seems as though all are like little white dots. I have a Carson Microbrite, the clear trichomes appear clearly but its near impossible to use with my shaky hands and without being very close.

I use a pocket microscope at 60x power and the trichomes are still a bit small but big enough to see clear/cloudy/amber. Unfortunately the laws of physics make the depth of field (what is in focus) of anything very small. It doesn't matter if it's an electronic magnifier, a cheap plastic pocket microscope or an expensive microscope, the distance that is in focus is very small. The higher the magnification the smaller the zone that is in focus so use the lowest power that allows you to see. I have a neurological condition that causes my hands to shake and sometimes very badly. With my pocket microscope I put my pinkie finger on the end of the magnifier. Then I rest that pinkie finger on the plant so the magnifier and plant move together. I also sit cross legged on the floor and put both elbows on my knees and hold the magnifier with both hands forming a triangle. Then when pushed against my face it gets more stable. Still, I can't do it on bad days when my shaking is acting up. If you have a serious problem I would get a desk type electronic or optical microscope. Then use small scissors or snips to take a small sample piece and put under the microscope. That way you aren't touching or holding anything.

Hey there Sasha, so it turns out as long as you can see them for yourself that's all that matters, just forget taking the pictures , really. If you can tell the difference between the clears and the milkies, that's all you need. Just wait until there are no more clears. It's that simple. Hope this helps ! 🚀

I have a Carson pocket microscope. So I find it easier to use if I calibrate it. So set it on a table and focus it. Then it becomes a bit easier to just hold up to buds and get a look. I know it’s not convenient but it’s not like we have to stare at them for very long. It’s just a quick inspection. I deal with inconvenience. Hope the tip helps.

Hello yes you can use a loupe but the best is a magnifier 50× -100× to see your trichomes. If your hands shakes too much take a small bud and put it on the table and then look. Good luck. Bye
