Mold or mildew issues in indoor soil grow

HappyGrowMore
HappyGrowMorestarted grow question 3 years ago
I have a white powdery substance startingig. Humidity isn’t the issue (or doesn’t seem to be. 65%). Using fox farms ocean forest. Could the Ph being too high cause this? Kind of stumped as to why? Any help appreciated

I’ve only done hydro runs before this, so soil is somewhat new. I knew it could be mold, but was unaware of the temp causing it.

I am using the same soil (Fox Farm Ocean Forest) for the first time and have never had this issue previously. I grow indoors and have done well in past grows, but this one stumps me. My humidity is fine at 45%, but I think the cool temps may be causing it as my basement is in the mid to low 60's now that Winter is beginning to set it. I've tried to keep the temps up closer to 68 at night, but it can be tough sometimes. My PH is also on the money or slightly below it. I'm sure some strains are resistant to it as my Gorilla Glue and Tangerine Dream are doing amazing with no signs of it; yet others around it (leaves not touching) are not so fortunate. My area is super clean and not using a grow tent (yet). My previous grows during spring, summer and fall when temps were higher had no issues, but since I also switched to Ocean Forest I wanted to get your input from the experts. Thanks in advance, Ed

Good info down there but yes that’s mildew and 65 RH is in no way a safe zone for developing mildew..

I would definitely clean your tent man. Leaving messes like that all over your floor is just asking for problems. Well you’ve succeeded breeding mould. As for your plants you can make a milk solution. 30 percent milk to 70 percent water and you can spray that on your plants. It’ll take care of powdery mildew. Just after lights out would be the best time to spray.

Keep your temperatures above 85’ and you’ll combat this! You can spray been oil or make a tea and go nuts spraying! WITH THE light off or on low! Morning and night! Get under the leaves as well!

That is powdery mildew. Powdery mildew infections occur with temperatures between 62 and 86F (16 to 30C) and develops fastest between 70 to 80F (21 to 27C). Once a plant has been infected, the relative humidity is no longer a factor and the pathogen can continue its life cycle regardless of the humidity.
