Calculating flowering time from seed bank info

CannaKrops
CannaKropsstarted grow question 3 years ago
Please explain seed banks term "flowering time". Would that be time from sprout to harvest, pre-flower to harvest, or flowering to harvest? I believe I read that pre-flowering takes 2 weeks till it enters true flower, please let me know if this is correct. Thanks!

completely ignore those estimates, as others have stated. Bud density, pistil coloration and trichome coloration are the three factors you want to use. You need a 30-60x magnification to resolve the trichomes properly. maybe, some fancy phone can zoom in enough now? otherwise a cheap little currency checker or jeweler's loupe is good enough. Each factor can vary a bit per plant, so it's as much an art as a science without lab equipment.. .and even then personal preference comes into play too. what does that mean? take every suggestion as a ballpark. Almost certainly have to test out a range of ripeness to know what you like best. When you harvest a tad early, you lose some mass, but the quality will be fine. testing potency in a lab reveals this to be true in regard to thc/thca. Since we don't have it all mapped out, what we feel may be slightly different? some say 'speedier' from early and 'sedative' with more ripening (aka more amber).

Photo period = 2 week pre flower plus the quoted times. So if they say 6 weeks, it is 6 weeks from when the true flowering begins, after the 2 weeks of "pre flower", so roughly 8 weeks from first premordia/pre flowers until harvest. Generally these times are quite close but can vary from minus one week to plus 3 weeks, depending on environmental factors and phenotype. With auto flowers it is meant to be from seed sprout until harvest day, but in my experience, very few even come close to the quoted times, with some strains taking anything up to 6 weeks longer than the times given by the breeders, even under optimal conditions. Hope this helps, Organoman.

@SmokeStack78 Most indoor growers count the flowering from when they flip the lights schedule to 12/12 so it goes to reason that is the way the breeders do it also. the correct way to actually know how long they take to flower is to count from when they are in flower until when you harvest this is because some strains can take weeks to start flowering once flipped and will make it look like a long flowering variety when it may really only take 8weeks of actual flowering

If it’s autos - that’s usually the seed to harvest time but will be anywhere from 65-120.. auto times seem way more unreliable. Photoperiod flowering time means the day you flip to 12/12 to the harvest date. Usually 50-80 days depending on strain but much more accurate in my experience

For photos, I count from the day I flip. The breeder will give their guidelines, if all conditions are good. So far for me, they’ve been pretty close

Its also good to note they are estimates and not always reflective of your growing conditions. Still need to listen and watch your plant for when it ready to harvest. it goes like this. If its an auto flower, its time from sprouted till harvest. its an estimate based off of averages they seen in their test grows. If its a photoeriod, its time from when you switch to 12/12 and start the flowering process. This is because you can veg a photoperiod for however long you require. 5-15 weeks or more. Think of mother plants. Good Luck!
