Energy for re-rooting is stored in the stem, for optimal results, at least 2-3 internodes, try cut sharp and clean (diagonal) the more surface space exposed for slight increase in chances, use a rooting powder or gel, make sure it contains butyric acid as this is what "stimulates roots" without it its pretty much just snake oil.
Kalvin cycle of plants will store the energy of the day in stem in preparation for nightfall, take cuttings at end of the daylight, they will be full of juice ready to re-root,
As soon as cut is made, place into clean distilled water..asap
From here you can allow to grow the root in water or place directly in soil.
If you leave it in water, you can leave excess leaves and continue photosynthesis until a root grows (darkness will be required though)
If you plonk it in soil you will need to keep the leaves in a high humidity setting to provide enough water via humidity until a new rootzone can be established.
before placing in soil you want to cut off all but 2-4 leaves, the stem can only support so many, and every last ounce must be diverted to new rooting.
Keep environment as stable as possible, once you start to see lime green in the leaves, this will indicate fresh new growth and that a new root has started.
