should I cut off the big leaves that are shading the new branches? I will go into flowering in 1-2 weeks. they are photoperiod plants

No, those leaves are the solar panels powering the new growths. Less leaves = less energy = less growth.

I agree with @ironf1st, those leaves are needed to give energy to the plant; without them, there would be a slowdown. Remember that when you remove leaves, you should always leave some that cover a large surface area; it doesn't matter if they're small or big (often, though, big ones are a bit better), but they should be well-exposed to light.

No, I would not cut them yet, but still wait until the plant has developed a bit more. You are going to cut off the lowest branches later on anyway. Good luck

Should I use CO2?CO2. Is it needed? I've got a CO2 bag, that I can pierce holes in and hang in my grow tent. This is my first ever grow. My aim is not, at this stage, to get the biggest buds. Simply to get ANY buds :) Should I use the CO2 on this initial grow? Will it make a difference?
