Yes, bad idea.
I can not advocate for defoliation at any time and mid flower would be the worst time, as this is exactly when your plants needs maximum energy to grow her flowers.
Quite simply -
Less leaves = less energy being made = less growth.
Removing healthy, green, energy producing leaves and forcing your plant to grow new healthy green leaves is absolutely pointless and the energy required to grow new leaves is energy that WON'T be going into bud growth!
Defoliation is not required unless there is a severe humidity problem and the only leaves that should ever be removed are yellow ones, for by the time they are yellow, they have served their purpose.
The only logical exception is if/when doing a bit of lollipopping.
Asking questions after the fact is also pointless as you can't stick the leaves back on or reverse any other sort of radical procedure and I wish people would ask first then act, rather than act first then ask!
At least with asking first you can make a more informed decision.
The older leaves also serve as a reserve of ready made nutrition that your plant will draw upon during flowering (this is the reason for the so called "fade"), as it is more efficient to do so and that way all the energy being made (by the leaves) can go into bud production and not have to share the energy with making new nutrition.
So, not only does defoliation reduce your plants capacity to make energy, which limits growth, it also robs her of this vital resource of pre-made nutrition she was relying on to use during flowering, which also limits growth!
No wonder I see defoliation as pointless!
And just because "everyone else does it", does not make it right!
Besides, if your plant would not NEED those leaves, it would not grow them in the first place!
As you can no doubt tell, I have made my views on pointless defoliation perfectly clear and backed up with botanical reasons which most growers fail to understand or even contemplate.....
Every leaf is like a solar panel.
You can't remove a whole bunch of solar panels and expect that things will be the same or better - it is like removing 3 cylinders from your Vee Eight racing car and then expecting it to do the same lap times or quarter mile ETs!
In future, just remember -
Maximum amount of healthy green leaves = maximum energy production = maximum growth.
It really is that simple!
Hope this helps you or anybody else who might read this.
Cheers, Organoman.
