Ketamineanswered grow question 3 years ago You will use a rockwool cube in these flood and drain systems...it will flood the cube with nutrient water then drain it out. Now you can either drain it back to reservoir OR drain it to a bucket which is discarded , which is called drain to waste. The space does not need to be large as the plant is provided all it needs so roots do not need to grow and search far. I use a completely different technique which I do not see anyone on this site use which is Precise Irrigation where I feed multiple times a day to a point and get very little runoff which is waste. You can look at my Smarties diary to kind of see what I am talking about. But as far as flood and drain or flood to waste can be done much easier with just a regular hydroponic table. Hope this helps. Good luck.
