If it makes you feel good, go nuts, do it. if you trying to cut time skip it. It stresses the plant and stress can cause increased trichomes from my understanding but how much can form in two days without light is beyond me. Good Luck!

Check this diary last week i have a screenshot of the results of a "darkness before harvest baked with lab result video": growdiaries.com/diaries/27422-12-12-from-seed-chupa-bud link to the original video top left of the screenshot but you need a you tube account to access it. It Slightly increase potency but significantly reduce terpene concentration i Personnaly prefer more terpene over 1-2% more thc

I actually went the opposite way and did 18/6 for a photoperiod the last week on my last harvest. More light = More energy = Increase in secondary metabolites (more trichome and terpene production). That's the theory anyways. Bud turned out great, better than I expected for my environmental issues, but without clones and multiple tests, hard to know if it did anything positive or negative.

I do 48 hours of darkness, in both hydroponics and soil. That’s just my preference. I believe it helps produce trichromes. But I’m not a scientist, I just grow for fun

Hello. Yes I use the 48 hours of dark, here's why. There's controversy on this subject just like flushing. Some people believe it helps, and some don't You met 2 who don't. I use this as part of my drying process. When the lights are on the plant is being bombarded my photons and other light partials which heat up and strip's elements away. Look at anything left in the sun for a while. It's faded right. No, it has had it top layer striped from light particles and photons that hit it coming from the sun. I believe that the lights do similar things. The plants have cells that use the energy and make it food but what about the resin crystals? I've read study's that show a small degradation of THC in the dark period and can understand why people don't want to do it but I think the dark period really helps with taste. The trichomes aren't being heated and striped so they can retain more taste. So the bottom line. There is a bit of loss to have a bit of gain some where in this game. Try a test - If you have 2 clones side by side of the same thing, pull 1 out at harvest time and the other leave for 48 hours dark before you cut it down. Mark which is which. Dry it the same, cure it the same. If you don't find a difference you don't have to do a dark period but if you do find a better difference?? You decide. Happy Growing Chuck.

Nope. Plant needs energy to create trichomes, can't do that with no lights on. This is an interview of Dr. Bugbee a Soil Biologist studying Medical Cannabis at the University of Utah. Start at 37 minutes for your question. www.youtube.com/watch
