Have been growing outdoors for close to 40 years and bugs have never been a real problem. You might get a few aphids or spider mites, but if you do nothing, the predetor bugs usually clean them up before any real damage is caused. No need to nuke your plants just because you see one bug, let nature look after itself and let the good bugs eat the bad bugs, it is all a natural cycle. You will have bigger problems from deer and rabbits!

As a preventative measure a spray made up of chilli and garlic boiled up keeps most bugs and animals from hanging around the plants .

You'll probably have to deal with SOMETHING - but there are so many that trying to advise is difficult... just keep a sharp eye on your grow for any weird discolorations, bite marks, etc... You might want to have some BT on hand, maybe some Neem oil, maybe some Diatomaceous Earth, maybe some Spinosad... but it's expensive to go out and stock up... I'm assuming you can get your hands on remedies quickly so just keep your eyes out and ask questions if you see something amiss... Good luck! I'm growing autos outdoors as well this year and a little bit nervous myself. I've just gotten some netting to fashion a hoop tent for them when they get in flower as I'm thinking that's going to be the critical time - that smell and the sweetness of the terps are going to be a siren call for bugs... you might think about doing something like that as well... just don't do it until you know approximately how HIGH your grow is going to be... Cheers, mate!

Lookup Companion planting. By planting other plants near your plant's to either attract the bugs away or deter them from even showing up. Here are some that will deter bugs. Chrysanthemums Marigolds Lavender Petunias Rosemary where plants like dill and lettuces will attract the bugs as they would rather munch on these plants.
