I soak my seeds in water for about 24 hours. Then I plant them directly into Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixed with pearlite (75% FFOF, 25% pearlite) in their large, forever pot. This saves the work and transplant shock of starting in a smaller container. If you have a source of free seeds I might consider your grow a lot and cull method. But, if you are paying for your seeds why waste so many? Just plant the number you will need or possibly one extra. Germination rates are very high so it is very likely all will germinate if you do it properly. All plants grown from seeds will show some variation. So, if you start 15 do you know what traits you would sort by? Size isn't everything so unless you know more specifically why you want to cull plants I'd avoid the waste of plants and money.

idk. im more worried about size I guess cuz all my plants b small. some seeds I pay for and others I have about 50 random from over the last year so those I use to try and pick the strongest looking ones from.

Could you let us at least know what you're growing? A photoperiod? An autoflower? From seed? A clone? If it's an autoflower, I wouldn't add the compost... that would probably make the soil much too hot for them... in fact, I don't like starting out my autos in anything that has ANY nutes in it... so when I grow in soil, they start out in ProMixHP... and they don't get nutes for at least 2 weeks... usually 3. And if it IS an auto, start it out in the pot it's going to finish in.... they really don't like to be transplanted at all... if you don't want to do that for some reason, you could start them in a peat pot so that it's just buried in a larger pot later on without having to take the seedling OUT of anything... Good luck!
