why use fans with drying process?

hello, i see that many use fans while the plant is drying and was wondering why that was, is it just to slow the drying process if the room is hot or does it improve the quality or? thanks

Hi this is a great question. To the best of my knowledge, it's to increase air flow around your grow space. This helps keep temperatures down to slow drying but most importantly circulates air to reduce the risk of humidity pockets and mold build up (nasty). My advice would be to have a fan pulling air from the area outside your grow tent to constantly provide a 'fresh' flow of air for consistent drying. Slow drying is important as it allows for the bits of the plant matter you don't want like chlorophyll, (the green wet stuff), into a smoother smoking experience. Think of it as a pre-cure to the cure whilst you are drying. I hope this helps 🤞🤞😊

It's just for air circulation in the drying space. It keeps moist stagnant air from sticking in the buds and molding. Never point the fans directly at the buds, just have them in the space to keep moving air around.

I use the first day as a drying day at this time i will run a fan but it’s important not to let fans blow directly on the plant or it will dry to fast, you just want to circulate the air . From then on the fans go off and i just make sure to keep my humidity around 45 % this starts the cure. You want a slow dry to get that smell and taste too full potential and to keep the bud nice and dense

Its for air flow and circulation you want to really concentrate on keeping temp around 15 and humidity to 50-60 % rhm dry tiĺ leaves feel a bit crispy, like 5-9 days. sweat it in a bag for a day then lay out on a screen. Then bottle it for curing after a few days. Grow diaries has a great recent article on this.

It creates airflow which evens out the dry throughout the plant. If you aim the fan directly at the plant and it's too strong, you will dry the plant too quickly which will destroy terpenes and make the plant smell like hay. A proper dry should take about 2 weeks, then it's ready for curing in jars/bags. It's better to hang the whole plant somewhere with low humidity (40-50% - e.g. your grow tent) and have a fan in the room pointing away from the plants to ensure a good airflow and slow dry at around 18-21°C. The same fan you used during the grow cycle will do the job on it's lowest setting, another reason why your grow tent is a good option for drying! Good luck!

if you just sepnd months with a 300, 400 or 600w or more light on, a 25w fan running for a couple weeks is a very small proportion of total cost.

fans speed up the process, but they shouldn't be directly facting the buds so it won't impact drying too much... it moves air around to even hour RH%... if you have drying buds in a room with stagnant air, the RH around the buds is much higher than the overall room's RH. in a small enough room this may be an issue or with enough weed piled up etc...

also is it worth it? i imagine it would cost a little too much having fans 24/7 for a couple weeks if not really worth it
