When it comes to watering honestly you should just pick up the pots when you first fill them with soil and they're dry, then water them through and pick them up again - compare the weight. Then from there on out you can just judge if you need to water by pot weight which is beyond easy to do. I would focus more on finding what nutrients you want to use and if you want to go synthetic or slow-release organic since those have an effect on how you water your plants. For simplicity sake, most Synthetics will require you to mix feeds into your water so you'll have to manage that in your watering schedules, while Organics are typically dry amendments you add to the soil that last a few weeks and only really require you to water with the correct pH.

safest -- wait for pot to get light (weight) and then re-irrigate... always saturate entire substrate... you dont pick volume of water.. pot size and what constitutes your substrate dictate how much is needed. soil -minimal runoff so you don't waste amendments in soil soilless -- 10% minimum runoff to ensure concentration remains in happy zone. if religious about this, you never have to worry. more frequent irrigations are an option for a well-sized plant for the pot it is in and a substrate with excelent drainage qualities.. if the plant cannot drink enough of the water fast enough, then you should not try frequent irrigations (end up with root rot, otherwise). This is more for a soilless context because most soils aren't going to have enough drainage / o2 penetration, but if oyu havae enough perlite, can do a version of this that would work. i'd suggest getting the safer / basic way down first.. then when you try something more advanced you have a baseline to compare -- is it worth it? did it imrove resultts? with no baseline it is left up to the ego to decide...

Depending on substrate and size of plants you want. Autos do best in light mix, and or coco.

It depends what medium you use. If it's soil you water them when they need water. Listen to your plants, they will tell you what they need. You can start by physically lifting the pots every day so you can feel how heavy they are. If they feel light, they need water - water them until you get 10% run off. Keep lifting the (now heavy) pots every day. When they feel light again, water again! Young plants will need much less water than established plants, so it could be anywhere from 1-7 days between watering depending on your pot size and the temperatures and all the different variables. If you're running Coco or LECA it's a whole different answer :)
