So when i first started growing i would just pour water into my plants with a watering jug and i noticed alot of the water just slid right down the top surface of the soil and i also had dry spots even with 20% runoff. So i learned two ways to fix that and that both involve buying a 1 gallon pump sprayer. First off when the soil drys out the top layer forms a surface tension so use the mist setting on your sprayer to wet the whole top surface then you can switch it to a steady stream and it will penetrate right through everywhere. Number 2 take your time, don’t just dump the water in all at once. Soil likes to drink slow. Start in the center and then work your way to the outside perimeter

Growmie, if you're watering your plants but the soil is still dry, you might have a waxy buildup on the top layer of soil that's making it hard for the water to soak in. This happens when the soil dries out too much and the natural balance gets messed up. So, to fix this problem, you gotta water your plants suuuuper slowly, like drip by drip, until the water soaks in and starts breaking down that waxy layer. Then, you can add more water until you've given your plants a good drink. But to make sure this doesn't happen again, you need to get those natural microbes back in your soil. You can do this by adding organic stuff like worm castings. Just sprinkle a handful on top of the soil and mix it in. This will help restore the natural balance and give your plants the nutrients they need to thrive. Plus, it's a totally natural solution so you won't burn your leaves or anything. If you don't wanna mix worm castings into your soil, you can also make worm casting tea! Just soak some worm castings in water for a day or two, then strain out the liquid and use it to water your plants. This will give them all the good stuff from the worm castings without having to mix them into the soil. So, to sum it up, water slow and steady to break down that waxy layer, add some worm castings or worm casting tea to get those microbes back in your soil, and your plants will be happy as can be!
