Watering a auto seedling properly.

If you have a seedling 1 week old in a 3 gal pot how do you water I hear watering till run off but wouldn't that be to much as the roots haven't reached the bottom yet? I also se people making a small circle around the seedling or others using spray bottles. I tend to over water.

you always want to saturate entire pot. leaving dry pockets is a recipe for failure. if the plant is droopy from basic irrigation, it is the fault of the potting soil not having good drainage qualities. the small circle thing is only important if you have put too small of a plant into too large of a pot... if you watered it properly it'd take 10+ days to be drunk and that's just stagnating water in the meantime.. this increases risk of root issues. you want to avoid this situation. it's completely avoidable and it's only a negative when doing it. with soil, you want to limit runoff, but ensure the entire thing gets wet. how often you fertilzie depends on how concetrated you make it. runoff just leeches off the amended nutes in the soil. this is a waste of money. you supplement the soil until you are fertilizing more heavily toward end. with a soilless substrate you fertilize every time and get 10% runoff or more to avoid buildup. foliar spray is a good idea for immediate help to a local issue - but only with the minerals that can actually traverse a stomata. plants get nutes from roots the most effectively. if you feed effectively there's no benefit to foliar sprays in regard to nutes, just a potential to overfeed due to ocd type perceptions - preventative stuff being a separate consideration. maybe it helps with seedlings or clones by reducing transpiration. it also increases risk of microbial growth. you don't want constantly wet plants.

Do not water till run off till plant is established. Run off is needed when you start adding nutrition. The run off rinses out the old salts from prior feeds is why it is required then to stop build up. If you have overwatering issue add more perlite in future grows substrate. Like 30 percent. For now you can easily water one side them next watering do other side. So one side stays dry. You are watering the roots not the actual plant sticking out of soil. So watering at the base of plant is not really necessary.

Autos tend to do better without transplanting up incrementally. Many folks plant directly in final pot size they will spend their whole life in. Those are the folks that circle water around a small seedling understanding their root system is growing incrementally as well. The circle should match the diameter of the tips of the leaves as the roots expand at the same distance from the stem as the canopy. This encourages the roots to grow out, seeking the moisture and prevents a soggy pot that takes ages to dry back,

I can tell you with 100% confidence that a 1 week old seedling doesnt need watering until runoff. The answer to this question will depend on the style of growing you're doing. Example: If using organic living soil the goal is to keep the soil moist, never bone dry and not soggy. A good rule of thumb when growing like this is 10% water per total vol of soil. So 10 gals of soil is equal to 1 gal of water. That is the ideal moisture level for organic living soil growing. NOW with synthetic or bottled nutrients, run off IS necessary to avoid toxicity of specific micro/macro nutrients. This growing style will require that you measure the runoff PH, PPM, ect ect to make sure you're within limits. It is a more intense style of growing. Regardless, when watering, its important to have your RH set to appropriate levels for the stage of growth. Without the proper RH, your watering frequency and amounts will change. I hope this helps :)
