You really can't do LST wrong.
you are simply breaking "apical dominance." The highest node will take the most resources and grow the most. By leveling something or restraining something so that is lower than other growth nodes, you spread out resources differently in the plant, which results in a more even growth rate or possible allowing somethign to catch up to a taller branch that is restricted temporarily.
It's a tool to manipulate the plant. So, it is always best to work backward from what you want at the end in regard to your canopy. Try to have 1 colas per 6in^2. Where you bend the plant down is the best point to achieve that.
e.g. you want 12 colas... you'll want maybe 6 branches coming out after LST anan then top them all once they spread out enough. Now, you have 12 growth tips ready to grow vertically.. Some training necessary to keep it even, too.
hinder faster growth, help slower growth... once even it can be leveled out again. Shape it to fit the space it is responsible for.
