When to start 12/12

Hi people. My plants are on vegetation day 26 and are 8 inches tall. My tent setup can give them room for 15 more inches for a total of 23 inches height from soil to top. So, when do you think I should start 12/12 to maximize the plants height and yield? Thanks.

you've got plenty of height to add be using something else to raise your pot -- i assume for runoff? find a lower pofile bucket to catch it. You're not too far away from easily filling a 2.3x2.3 space. looks like 4 plants in a lage pot. i'd make sure you heavily LST middle so that growth doesn't easily gain apical dominance later on and nowhere to bend it. it will make a level canopy easier to plan ahead in this respect.. If you control it a bit before it bushes out, you can force most of the growth toward the outer perimeter where there is more space to spread out. Once content, flip it... clean it up to reduce larf. let her do the rest. better in individual pots that you can move around to make life easier, but if you do this again, i'd bend each out toward a coner... a bit beyond center before allowing to go vertical... shape will fit tent easily. more of a learning cuve, but if always doing the same thing, it's just a minor speed bump.

Thanks everyone for your comments. So yeah, about the pot, ideally, it would be shorter and wider to allow more height room, so I will change this next grow. Concerning the height available with the current setup, calculations I did look something like: Pot at the bottom of the tent + safe space of 12 inches 30 cm from the top of the plants to the light = 23 inches available (or 15 inches cause plants are now 8 inches tall) Initially I wanted kind of a challenge for my first grow, so that's why I went for a small tent with 4 clones in single pot xD Hopefully the fact that indicas and more specifically the northen lights tend to not stretch as much as sativas should help with keep stretch low And yes, i'm trying to keep the middle a bit shorter than the edge even if right now it look at bit like a bush So from your advices guys, i'm planning to wait for the nodes to get more mature, more flower looking, and try to keep the bush even meanwhile but probably no more topping but still more LST to be done With that said, flowering is coming up soon like 1-2 weeks max

You have a nice canopy. Before flipping. Make sure you have full flower heads filled out and just before most sites push out a new node(s) if you flip in or around that you won't have to wait a week until you get that growth you need for it to push out pistils. Looking at your growth. You are nearly there. You could give it another week of straight vegging and build up the tops. And strip away lower growth and little underdeveloped nodes (if you have any) Good luck.

Hey your northern lights looks awesome šŸ‘ Is that 4 clones in the same planter? Keep in mind theyā€™re gonna do a growth spurt when they start flowering. They will get a lot taller so plan for that. I have seen plants outgrow their space or grow up into the light. That sounds like a good problem to have, but it can get difficult to manage. Youā€™re doing great! Good luck growmie!

I personally like to wait till a plant hits a maturity level prior to flowering, which is about 8 weeks of vegging on photoperiods.

cant you get it down from that stool and give them more vertical space? when to flip a plant is the growers choice as oppose to autos which is just one of the reasons why i dont care for them. just keep in mind that some sativas can take a long while to transition. i have a cannalope haze that takes 4-5 weeks to transition into flowering after i start 12/12. on the other hand indicas are faster to get into flowering mode. theyā€™ll keep doing vegetative growth for another 2 weeks or so and during this time the bud sites will completely set in and the plant will pretty much reach its final height. between you flipping them and them setting their buds an explosive growth happens which is called the stretch. during this stretch plants can gain anywhere from 100% to 5-600% in height and itā€™ll also gain significant width as well. now nl is pure indica so it doesnt stretch as much as a sativa but iā€™ve still seen impressive stretch on my sensi nls in the past so if all you can give it is 15inches more iā€™d flip it soon so you dont run out off vertical space during stretch which is always a hassle to deal with as for getting the most out of it. dont overfeed it, lollipop as best as you can so you grow only prime buds, dont overwater and dont overnurture and itā€™ll give you fire. what i can suggest down the line is i know youā€™ll want to get the most weight out of those buds but for me particularly nl has a lysergic effect when taken down early. very speedy but also hallucinogenic which i like in nl, so maybe down the line around 50th day take a tester nug off and fast dry and roll one up. smoke it and if you enjoy it you can sacrifice some yield for a more speedy head high. but its just a suggestion for future haha lets first get there right!

So hereā€™s the good news is if theyā€™re clones, there will be a quicker trigger when you switch AND more importantly you wonā€™t be losing any quality in flower if you flip sooner. From seed, the quality of bud is slightly less if you were to flip now than if you work from clone which is biologically months older at least. I would advise to flip within the next week. 15 inches isnā€™t much for stretch. Luckily you have a lot of tops it seems across that one container which will cause less stretch ordinarily. You just never know til you flip tho so Iā€™d be tempted to flip sooner than later. I would advise, if possible, to explore options for a taller tent, or space in general. Good luck
