Temperature/Humidity

PlantBasedCookiestarted grow question 4 months ago
During the light phases I have 30 degrees with just over 50% humidity, sometimes even less. Is that OK? Should I try to lower the temperature at the expense of the humidity or should I let the temperature rise to get a higher humidity? Or should I leave it as it is?

You're fine, I wouldn't go to a lot of trouble trying to fight it. Greenhouse temps can hit closer to 50C in some areas in the summer and we still manage to grow. Fresh air circulation helps.

it's fine.. would it be better with a slightly lower VPD, maybe.. . i'd go a bit higher on RH before dropping from 30c... 30c is great. going over is the trouble/dimnishing returns with photosynthesis. Grab a VPD reference table and assume leaf temps are 5F cooler than ambient temps in room. RH is probably a bit higher in canopy too.. so if using overall room temps and RH you can expect your VPD to be a bit lower than what those readings tell you -- an offset is fine. you can still learn with that but it just won't communicate perfectly to others in an apples to apples way. a little higher VPD just equates toa little lower concentration of fertilizer and vice versa. It impacts transpiration which impacts rate of drinking, so you can see why this relationship exists.

Ye bro its fine. just make sure you have a good fan at the top so you have good air exchange.

I solved the problem of the high temperature putting a fan outside the growbox that push the air against the side of grow box where there is the bottom air intake, that fan turn off and turn on together with the light. Because of this fan, the humidity will decrease so an humidifier inside the growbox is needed.

I don't think 30 is outside of the realms. its upper realms for temps I like but 50% rh is also fine. I am for aorund 24-28c lights on and 18-20c lights off. RH I aim for around 60-70% in veg and aorund 45-55% in flower. This does not always happen as my city is a humidity magnet and its gross and sticky. I use my central air system to cool the air and lower its RH. If the RH stays low aorund 50% just realize it will drink a bit more water and the feeds should not be as concentrated, once the plants get bigger they will raise the RH in the tent on their own from all the leaves. Good advice below about referencing a VPD chart. You can also try increasing the airflow in the tent "extractor fan" if the ambient air outside of it is less then 30c to get it lower. if its the same temp it will not get lower, Try venting outside to help off set the temps vs into the same room. Good Luck!

So do I think that the plant will be ok, yes. But if you’re searching for a better known environment that is proven for out plants you need to check out a VPD Chart. This is a chart that shows optimal levels between temperature and humidity for our plants. Right now at your levels your are actually way off the optimal curve. You can either reduce the temperature or increase the humidity. There is a bunch of Science behind this VPD curve and for optimal contusions for your plant you would want to follow that chart and be as close to the optimal curve as you can. Again, do I think your plant will be fine? Yes, however I think it will do better if you try to get somewhere near the optimal VPD. I hope this helps.
