If you have good air circulation, then it doesn't matter where you measure. The sensor should not be directly in the light of the lamp, otherwise it would heat up and falsify the result. Even under the canopy of leaves, the air circulation is poor later and can cause slight deviations.

Always measure at plant height,no use measuring at the top. What I personally do is I have a meter at plant height and another at head height"tallerpart of tent"Recently I added one on the lower tent to get accurate idea as I battle both heat and humidity and have constant airflow.hope that helps!420HighLifeCouple

Measure where the canopy of your plants are. Also may want a separate probe for soil temps. I use an outdoor glass one that was inside a holder. make sure my mediums temps do not get above 22. Good Luck!

I have my gauge sitting on the handle of the fabric pot, I think it’s better to have it close to your plant.

If you have only 1 hygrometer, the best place to put it at the canopy. You want to make sure you have the reading of the most top part of the plant because that is the part that closest to heat source (your light). You want to make sure you are reading the most crucial data that can harm your plant. My logic is if I have only 1 hygrometer I will put it hanging on top of the plant's crown and if the reading is good, underneath must be okay and normal too. I see that you have a square hygrometer. What you can do is tie it to a string or cable and hook it near ur light cable that hangs your led grow light. Or if you will you can buy the small square hygrometer that have a long cable with sensor and you can hang the sensor by the long cable from on top of your led light and you can clip the meter outside...since grow room have 2 zip to open you can run thru the cable between the zip. This will enable you to read the hum/temp without having to open up your grow tent. I hope you get what I mean. This is how I set it up. https://files.fm/f/t8x3gp24p

Ideally, you want to measure what the plant is experiencing - so down by the plant!

You want to measure both at the top of the plant.

Hot air rises and so does humid air. So, somewhere in the upper part of the tent is good. If you have good air circulation where you measure isn't too important. I have a circulation fan inside the tent that runs 24/7. I have my temp probe located about 3/4 up in the tent. It is high enough the lights can not shine directly on the sensor.

You will want to measure at the canopy of your plant (i.e. the top of your plant). If you don't mind having a sensor hanging from the ceiling down to the middle, that is the best place to measure though. But I keep it attached to the frame on the side. A tip though: make a hole in the bottom of a white paper cup and pull your temperature sensor through (that is, if you have a temperature reader with a sensor on a cable). Then hang it upside down at canopy height. This way you measure the "right" air temperature and you avoid your reading is distorted by the thermal radiation of your grow light. In my case, the difference is up to 3 to 4 degrees Celsius which is significant. Good luck.
