As far as underwatering, when you realizd the soil got too dry did you irrigate? if so, you fixe the "underwatering" problem.
Looks like a nitrogen deficiency starting -- 99% certain. only leaving 1% in case some pertinent information was left out.
the way you describe things makes me think you ahve bad watering habits too.
water entire substrate and wait for top 1" to dry before repeating. Simple as that in soil. how much and how often you fertilize depends on too many factors to define specifically... the more concetrated you feed, the more water-only irrigations in between should occur. over time it should average out to the same mass of nutes added to the substrate each week or day or month doesn't matter what increment you base it on. More frequent fertigation with lower concentration will result in slightly better growth. without as much runoff f in soil, you do have to watch out for buidlup int he soil/plant and react appropriately if you do - i.e. lay off fertilization for a brief bit or even get some excess runoff to dilute substrate contents if it is a major problem ongoing.
