Spider Mites During Veg

Tired_Ellie
Tired_Elliestarted grow question 2 months ago
What does everyone do to get rid of spider mites during veg growth? At the moment, they're only on the soil and haven't gotten on the plant yet. I've been applying neem oil daily. They're still coming back.

FYI for all the other answering. The user reached out via DM. the image is video but GD is broken so does not play it. Its link to their diary here with the video. growdiaries.com/diaries/237957-ethos-cookies-16-s1-pink-lemonade-mamasita-pineapple-express-grow-journal-by-tired-ellie/week/1348421 They are soil mites not spider mites, what kind of soil mite is still unknown. Spider mites lay eggs on leaves underside they are not a soil pest, They can get dislodged and fall into soil and become pests but that is not their preferred home, they also go in soil in cold weather like end of season to overwinter but not a normaly behaviour for a warm tent.

love the smell of napalm in the morning. They will lay eggs in top coue of inches of soil. Need to bone dry top 3"4 inches and keep it arid, not sure what the cycle is on eggs, check it up. Spider mites if they are not on the stems thats amazing, get yellow traps around the base, goop Vaseline around the stem to make things difficult. They love to be close to the light and will climb whatever they can, cannabis although a source of food to chew on they do prefer other plants over it. Marigolds visually attract, Borage tastes amazing they love it. I have had them 2 times and was never able to get rid of them during a grow. I could keep them under control long enough to make it to harvest but it's not fun finding them in veg. Good news they are only in the soil so far, let's hope the napalm works!. Good luck. Going to

1st step is preemptive always keep a few yellow sticky traps around. These will alow you to identified you have a pest problem early. Also when a pest is stuck to a trap it's not moving and you get get a jewelers scoop and see what your dealing with wile it's not moving. 2nd you have spray options like neem and all the stuff you can find at plant stores if you want a simple option try mixing dish soap vinegar esintail oils such a lavender, mint, menthol with water. 3rd option if your grow is not in an area where you sleep or your pets are at buy this https://www.amazon.com/Prozap-5019510-ProZap-Insect-Guard/dp/B085PR6Q21/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=1RHDJBE818SK8&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.0buK5TucSMFNpz2ZBWZvB6yZYwNLM7c2-Vc_j7rPSTpGrzqgtQeaCjmfrpRoBoDxm6vpZ2CYRysFlaPbNPBzJ8RefGC33r9k_mfymZc7-6_KKoS_Ojm5glAs7Clm_Pb9BBtH-rO1pRc9U8u_VJwBQQXJJAJxAsLo7Yg4w1gnzqu-5GRKQ4oRlSRtbQ4ULGVMgC-Rz1ei3znSI2gxI8cBPQ.54iGH6-E4l_YJgaiTkWQ1R-xryWtOjojbWmPPYwCytg&dib_tag=se&keywords=insect+guard&qid=1732786720&sprefix=insect+gaurd%2Caps%2C194&sr=8-3 This thing you just hang up for a few hrs to a day and all the insects just die off.. If you still have the pest when you get to flower you have to get creative. You can use cold water to blast them off the plants, you can use a vacuum to try and su k them off. Spider mites and most insects breed much faster when Temps are high around 86 spider mites have babies like every 3 days but at 60 degrees it takes them 15 days to go thru a life cycle. So lower the Temps aswell for a few days. Remember most things only kill adult bugs and not eggs. So keep up with spraying or whatnot every few days you have to break their life cycle to get rip of them

I guess you refere to spring tails more than spider mites in this case use nematodes for them and that is all. but if you are talking about mites in general and the question is not linked to the photo, it depends but in mid flowering the only way to go imo is biological control, using predators or parasitoids you will keep it under control without spraying anything that could potentially derivate in mold growth.

Spider mites do not live in the soil they are leaf dwelling pests. and I don't know what that picture is highlighting. I don't see anything of intrest. Might need to get a macro shot and circle them in red to help identify. Soil mites are a thing but they tend to be more predators vs pest. and Spring tails are normally a soil bug that show up when growing but are beneficial. Try and get better shots and we can try and give better advice. pyrethrines are the way to go for spider mites. Nematoads and BTi are good for soil based pests but can also use the former.

pyrethrines kill on contact. find a concentrate you mix yourself. the pre-mixed stuff is highway robbery. These biodegrade very fast, even so, don't use in flower. Sticky traps are great pre-emptive thing just to put up regardless at beginning of the grow. they are cheap and don't take up space. I used to do this but after several years of no issues i just don't bother anymore, hope you get to that point too. I think these risks depend heavily on where your house is located more than anything else we control. neem is only effective if it has the 'azadirechtin' (misspelled but close). Otherwise it is clarified neem and does virtually nothing in regard to pests or much of anything else really. I used to use it. It really doesn't do much of anything useful and smells like shit anyway. in my state you can't even buy 'real' neem oil. i'm sure actual farms can get it, but also have access to real pesticides that are effective too.

Sticky traps pal. Use silca or something that kills them when they attack your plants.
