it's a marijuana plant. it wants the same environment as a female marijuana plant.
collecting pollen isn't somethign you have to maximize. There will be far, far more than you need or can use within the time frame that it is viable.
storing methods have a ton of bro science mixed in. they key is to store properly dried pollen in a cool, dark, dry place. fluctuating RH of a fridge or freezer can be bad. Pollen that is not properly dried will die in a freezer as water expands when frozen. So, if you store in fridge/freezer make sure to account for these problems. A well sealed container with dessicants can help in the fridge and i doubt any normal person has the tools to properly measure moisture content of pollen at home, so that's a crap shoot requiring trial and error for how long you need to dry it first.
pollen "germinates" when it lands on pollen. High moisture can cause that to happen and that pollen is now useless when it does happen. this is how stored pollen can become inviable among other reasons. moisture is something to avoid.
it'll lose viability over time no matter what, but you can slow it down significantly.
