Hey guys! I’m pretty sure this grapefruit haze auto is getting pretty close. Day 64 I think but it’s the first plant that’s gotten this far (males and screwy bagseed genetics 1st time) I read that I’m looking for mushroom shaped tricoms for optimal harvest. Any other tips?

Hey there 1st thing your gonna want to keep an eye out for is when the hairs change colors like 90% the hairs change on the entire plant also the last week or 2 of flower the buds will really start to fill in and when they are getting close to being done they have a very visible look to them if being done with the leaves starting to yellow and all the orange hairs turnt back in towards the buds and not pointing up When plant is looking like this then it’s time to use a jewelry loupe to check the tricombs. When checking tricombs make sure to only check tricombs growing directly from buds and not ones growing from sugar or fan leaves When checking tricombs you want to look at the heads of the tricombs the very end of the tricombs has a ball on it your looking at the color of those balls They start off clear when you can almost see thru them then they will turn a milky white very hazy where you can’t see thru them eventually they start to turn red or amber or a peaches color You are not looking for a shape of tricombs your looking for a majority of the tricombs heads to not be clear and most of them being moly white with a few of them already turned amber So like 10% clear 70% milky white 20% amber Also make sure to prepare for harvest and get everything you need for drying and curing. You don’t want to wait till you harvest you plants to just wing it on drying and curing Drying and cutting is just as hard as growing a weed plant honestly it is an art on its own and will take a wile to master I would just suggest reading up a lot on the subject and buying all the stuff you need now

Lower humidity as flower progresses for a safe finish, vpd is meant for rapid growth , last couple weeks should be spent cooling off if you want to preserve alot of the smell and beautiful glandular trichomes you seek to preserve. Glandular trichomes are characterized by their ability to secrete specialized metabolites, often accumulating them in a space between the gland cell walls and the cuticle. Many of the metabolites produced by glandular trichomes have evolved to deter herbivores and pathogens, acting as a first line of defense. There are mechanisms that can be used to stimulate the secretions made into the trichomes. Induced Systemic Resistance (ISR) involves a complex signaling pathway, often mediated by hormones like jasmonic acid (JA) and ethylene (ET), leading to the activation of plant defense genes and the production of defensive compounds. Long term stress acclimation is also shown to increase the concentration level of antioxidants. Glandular trichomes, specialized hair-like structures on plant surfaces, are known to accumulate and secrete various secondary metabolites, including a significant number of antioxidants. These antioxidants, primarily flavonoids, act as a defense mechanism against environmental stresses, such as UV radiation and reactive oxygen species. Developing the knowledge you need to apply the appropriate amount of stress is another thing entirely. My latest grow just harvested if you would like to see the difference this can make to final product on top of alrdy strong genetics. Looks like bids have been dipped in icing sugar.

So, you'll want to keep an eye on the trichomes, those tiny, crystal-like structures on the buds. When they turn from clear to milky white and then amber, that's a good sign the plant is ready. Also, look at the pistils, the hair-like strands on the buds. If they've darkened and curled in, it's getting close. Finally, the buds themselves should feel firm and dense. It's a good idea to check the trichomes with a magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe for the most accurate timing. Harvesting at the right time will give you the best results in terms of potency and flavor. Okay, let's talk about the trichomes. You'll want to use a magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe to really see what's going on. When they're clear, the plant is still developing. As they turn milky white, the THC levels are peaking. If you wait until they're amber, you'll get more of a body high. It's really about your preference.

Yo growmie, she’s lookin’ good but nowhere near done yet. Forget trichomes for now, they only matter after buds swell up and pistils pull back in. Right now you’re in early-mid flower, stacking phase. Still weeks to go. Watch for: Pistils turning brown and pulling in. Calyxes fattening up. Plant starting to fade a bit. That’s when you check trichomes for cloudy/amber. For now: Keep bloom feed rollin’. Temps 24-26°C / RH 45-55%. Chill, let her stack, don’t rush the chop. Autos finish when they want. You’re prob lookin’ at 3+ weeks minimum. I can walk you through it week by week if you want. See you around growmie ,keep her happy and let her ripen proper.

Looking solid, but not quite there yet. You’ve still got a lot of white pistils and the buds haven’t fully swollen—those mushroom-shaped trichome heads you're looking for usually come in when most pistils have turned orange and pulled back. At day 64, especially for a sativa-leaning auto like Grapefruit Haze, you likely still have 10–14 days to go. Start checking trichomes on the actual calyces, not the sugar leaves—clear → cloudy → amber is your guide. Stay patient—you’re almost there and she looks good!
