Welcome back GD! Just in time as my Stress Killer Automatic is waiting some more days to be harvested, I’m starting this new project with the original, most famous, Silver Haze from Sensi Seeds. I’ve dreamed about her for so long now. Since Sativas love summer, I thought this would be the right time to do it. So let’s get started! Same setting as my last growth, even if I’m thinking about buying another LED panel later as soon as flowering time comes. Will be using my 384W led panel on full spectrum in both veg and flowering. There will be one plant only, and a big pot that will come after 2 or 3 transplants. There will be a monster SCROG as well, in the hope of handling flowering stretch decently under the net! It’s gonna be veeery interesting! Okay, let’s talk about this first week. I planted the seed in a RQS starter pot (no mycorrhizae unfortunately), and it sprouted after 5 days. On day 6 I removed the seed cover manually and transplanted this baby in a temporary 5L airpot. On day 7 I moved her in the grow room. She’s looking nice!

This week I added the humidifier to keep a constant RH of 70%. 0.125L of PH’d 5.8 tap water each hour. At about day 15, or directly next week, I’ll give her the first feeding. Just 1/3 of the recommended dosage, to begin. Day 13 update: I put Voodoo Juice, Tarantula and Piranha in the reservoir at 1ml/L. That was 30ml of each, and they didn’t change the ppm of the solution (which was 116). Just a 0.3 points increase of the PH. Day 14 update: since I noticed some little white spots on one leaf, I decided to give some Neem Oil (10ml/L) as foliar spray. I even added 1ml/L of B-52 in the same spray solution. Then I added some Rhino Skin (1ml/L) to the reservoir solution, which increased the PPM from 116 to 163. Runoff ppm is 207. I don’t know why, but my reservoir PH keeps rising. If now I set it at 5.6, or 5.8 directly, tomorrow it will be something near 7.8/8. And I’m still not using any product with PH Perfect technology. I don’t know.

Neem oil + B-52 sprayed on leaves last week made them curl down a bit. But she’s feeling good. I think some N is needed (some leaves are about to turn yellow). It’s definitely time to start with NPK nutes! Day 18 update: changed reservoir solution (removed the one with Voodoo Juice, Tarantula, Piranha and Rhino Skin) and added the first NPK nutes. 1ml/L of Connoisseur A+B didn’t trigger the PH Perfect formula in the solution: it decreased the PH a little, but not totally. I had to fix with some PH- from General Hydroponics. With a starting PPM of 130 (tap water), actual PPM in the reservoir is 547. Will see how runoff one changes over next days. Day 19 update: on day 18 I noticed a burned leaf. Today I got a couple more, which means that some overfeeding’s going on. I immediately switched back to tap water with PH 5.8. I don’t know if that’s related to foliar solution of B-52 + Neem oil, or to nutes I gave her for one week (fungi and bacteria + silica). What I understood here is that Silver Haze doesn’t like nutes too much. Will be giving half dosage and not more in the future! Day 21 update: I had some days with just tap water and the baby seems healthier now. Since runoff PPM was 137, I added NPK nutes + B-52 + Voodoo Juice + Rhino Skin back, with dosage of 1/6 of the usual 2ml/L: 21L of reservoir water + a few more liters for eventual evaporation + 7ml of each product instead of 42ml each. New PPM in the reservoir is 234.

Day 24 update: today I increased PPM to 400 with the reported dosage (comparing to previous week, now it’s 4ml/L for the Connoisseur Grow A+B, instead of 2ml/L). Talking about quantities: 24L of tap water (130ppm) in the reservoir, and used 16ml each of Connoisseur Grow A and B, and 8ml each for B-52, Voodoo Juice and Rhino Skin. Since PH Perfect formula works with more quantity of nutrients, I had to use PH- to stabilize at 5.7. I’m only sure that tomorrow PH will be around 7.0 again, but I think it’s something related to my (perhaps defective) PH meter. It’s a very cheap one and I’ll buy another one very soon. The baby is looking good now! No more stresses, no more spider mites, just healthy growth. Let’s go!!! Day 25 update: we’ll I think I got an indica pheno! Not good..... I wanted a pure sativa! Day 26 update: since reservoir PPM was 400 and runoff one was 200 (with increasing PH), I increased reservoir PPM to 600 (it’s a value between 589 and 607). Let’s see if the baby will appreciate this new value. Since the day I increased it to 400, she literally exploded. I also topped at 5th node. The fun part is starting just now!

Day 28 update: I think the light was too close to the plant, so I increased the distance to 50cm. It should help with the stretch of lower branches. Then I switched to Advanced Nutrients feed chart, adding 4ml/L of A+B formula and 2ml/L of other additives (for every liter in the reservoir). This made the ppm go crazy. Let’s see what happens, but I don’t like these unclear instructions. Ph Perfect keeps the ph stable for just a few hours, and they don’t say anything about ppm. Bad! Day 30 update: LST session + defoliation on fan leaves that were hiding lower branches. Day 32 update: transplanted to her final 20L AirPot (from a 5L one)! Added some michorrizhae as well where I placed the plant. Since I got a bigger pot, now it’s 250ml of solution every hour, instead of the previous 125ml. Day 34 update: immediately stopped using Advanced Nutrients feed chart (from their calculator) because I had that crazy 3100 ppm in the reservoir and noticed a small sign of overfeeding on a leaf in the top. I removed part of the solution and added tap water back until I got about 800 ppm. NOT HAPPY! Day 35: LST! Again

I tried Advanced Nutrients feeding calculator. 30L reservoir full of tap water (130ppm) and, in total, 120ml for both Connoisseur A+B, and 60ml for each of the 3 additives. I did exactly what they suggested and measured EC after mixing up well. Is it normal to have this crazy EC?

Your plant has gone from a snug fit in a 5l pot to a very lose fit in a 20l pot. You've gone straight from feeding it 5l worth of food to 4xthat in the new 20l pot. When transplanting I would advise using 1/4 to 1/3 of the 20l AN nute regime until the plant has started to fill up the new 20l pot. When it's half filled it, use half the recommended dose for a 20l pot, etc.

*** About the question I sent: that “crazy” EC I was talking about last week was 3100 PPM, not the one you see on this week. *** This week I’m enlarging the plant as much as I can to prepare her for the scrOG. Day 40: LST + defoliation

Getting ready for flowering! On day 45 I placed a metal grid (90x90cm) on the bottom of the pot and a same one on the top as a scrog grid. Then I did a huge defoliation removing as much as I could under the net, exposing many small colas that were covered by upper leaves. On day 46 I didn’t switch off the lights in the night, so the princess has been awake for more than a day. I switched off the lights in the morning. After about 30 hours of darkness, on day 47 I switched lights back on and set up the timer for the switch to 12/12. In this first week I’m waiting for the plant to empty the reservoir, then 2 days of flush, and will start kicking bloom nutes (with fungi, bacteria and sugars) at half dosage next week.

Flowers popped up and stretch is still going on, though is less evident at the moment. On day 59 I did a huge defoliation and removed everything under the grid. This has stressed the plant and she’s still recovering (day 61), also because she’s been without waterings for more than 24 hours (my fault, I didn’t notice water pump was plugged off). I hope the stretch doesn’t stop here, because I’d like to fill all (or almost all) the grid. This week I added Big Bud and decreased Voodoo Juice, Tarantula and Piranha to 1ml/L because I run out of them lol.

She’s still stretching! This week I removed Voodoo Juice, Tarantula and Piranha, and added B-52 and Bud Factor X (never tried this one before). Since the princess loves this 2ml/L dosage for NPK nutes, I’ll not be touching that for the moment. That seems to be the optimal dosage for a sativa like this. Very nice!

Day 89: last defoliation to help light penetrate down to lower flowers. I’m angry because I cut a flower! Day 90 and 91: two days of flush with PH 5.8 tap water and Flawless Finish @ 2ml/L. Will come back with some PK boost at the end. Unfortunately RH is still very high, but it’s not a problem for the moment. From now I should only change nutrients solution every week and take photos.

Everything good except a bit of salt buildup caused by a poor runoff over the last weeks. You can see this by looking at almost every tip of the leaves. Last week Amazon had some problems delivering new ferts, so from day 97 to 101 I gave just 1ml/L of Bud Factor X and no Bud Candy and Sensizym at all. On day 101 I made a new nutes mix, and it’s the one you can see on GD. No more Bud Factor X because it’s very expensive and I don’t think I’ll need it for just two more weeks. I used 1ml/L of Cal Mag Xtra because I ended my Connoisseur Bloom Part A too. Lol, it’s been a problem. I ordered some Sensi Bloom Coco A+B and another Bud Candy for the last two weeks by the way. Flowers are now enlarging since the first day I added Overdrive. Very very good, I like this Silver Haze.

Guys, it's getting so boring! Waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Come on! This is the last week with nutes. Flush is coming! Trichs are partially cloudy, but many of them are still transparent. This is a good news. I hate those damaged leaves, and they're a clear sign that I could find nutes in final buds. No way. I need to clear up every single particle of salts from that medium, and eventually make the plant absorb energies from her fan leaves. Fingers crossed!

Day 121: HARVEST DAY! Omg, those fan leaves are really embarrassing! This is what happens when you follow Advanced Nutrients schedule at full strength. This is my last run with them. Expensive, and not clear with instructions and dosages. In this last (half) week I’ve given just PH’d water and, since the first time I used Flawless Finish two weeks ago, runoff ppm started from 4000 (I don’t remember the exact value very well) and went to 130 (tap water). Leaves didn’t get yellow because of Rhino Skin I used during the first weeks of flowering. I’ll update harvest page as soon as I finished harvesting and took some good photos. See you soon!

Happy Harvest Day!

It took me almost 5 months to write this review. I don’t know where to start from. Well, I always wanted to grow a legendary sativa like this, but I felt I wasn’t really ready to do it. I preferred to grow other strains and try new growing mediums before, and that’s exactly what I did. And because I don’t like ordinary and “easy” things, I wanted to put myself to the limits and try something really hard and never tried before (by me): growing the legendary Silver Haze from Sensi Seeds in ScrOG using a coco coir medium, filling all the grow room (1m x 1m) with one plant only. Yes, that’s what I did. In general, I can say I’m very happy with the results, except for one thing: Advanced Nutrients. I’m sad because they burned many fan leaves on last weeks, and this because of a misunderstanding with reported dosages on bottles (which, I later discovered, are calculated following American growing standards with 1000W HPS lights). The problem is that Advanced Nutrients, with their PH-PPM perfect formula, tells you NOT to adjust PPMs of the solution because the reported value from your pen will be affected by many other components besides dissolved fertilizer in the water (eg. pH buffers, humic and fulvic acid, amino acids, etc...). They say you should start from 1/4 of the reported dosage, and increase that value a bit a bit until you reach full strength. That’s not the way I like to work, and that’s why I’ll never use their nutrients again. I’ll choose a brand of nutrients that makes you easily manage PPMs instead. But let’s talk about something happier now: the plant itself. The hype is real here. Let’s start by saying that those burned leaves didn’t ruin any final buds. Yay! The only concern I had about this growth was linked to Silver’s flowering stretch. I didn’t know the strain, and couldn’t guess how the stretch would have been. I only knew she could become 3x bigger during the first month of bloom. But if you don’t know when she’s gonna stop, what do you do? Stop bending, without filling up all the ScrOG grid, or you keep bending, hoping she will not stop while she’s still under the grid? Hard choice. Really hard. That’s why everyone says you firstly have to know the strain, before trying ScrOG. I’ve been lucky here, and yes, I opted for option B: keep bending! 😜 The plant, as you see, is strong, and I’d say even tolerant enough to nutes. My case was a bit extreme, so maybe a skunk would have suffered too, lol. She likes topping, and reacts to it very very quickly, as well as super cropping or LST. During flowering, you can keep bending for at least 3.5/4 weeks since the day you switch to 12/12. If you do the switch and are sure that you don’t have light leaks on dark hours, you’ll start seeing pistils after one week (with temperatures similar to mine). During flowering, you don’t have to worry about size of your buds, since they’ll get A LOT bigger only on last two weeks. Believe me! Let’s now talk about the most interesting part: buds and their effects. If you touch them, they leave you a tropical mouth watering smell on your fingers. The smell is a combination of tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, and peach. I love it. When you smoke her, you keep tasting those flavors if you vaporize at 180C, but if you increase to 200C, you don’t taste that citrus hint anymore (or maybe just a little less). The effect is the true masterpiece of this strain. No paranoia. Couch lock is absent, but if you decide to relax on your sofa, or bed, you’ll be in the perfect location to start thinking and contemplating about your life and many many many other things. Thoughts are moving faster here. No joke. You’re creative like never before, and happy. You don’t think about problems. You like everything. And you start appreciating how nice moving slow and focusing on every little thing you do is. Wow. Almost 5 months to create this wonderful thing. I don’t think I’ll never find another strain like this. Someone tells Jack Herer could be better, who knows? But this is now my starting point on what a real sativa should be. Nice one, Sensi Seeds. Update: added bud photos after 3 months of curing in the jars!

@TOTEM, hmmm.. sometimes you can have a reaction when using chemical nutrients as you may know. Had 4K EC run off on my royal Gorilla plant beginning of flower she didn’t like it at all, showed serious salt deficiency through the whole of flower. Still prime bud but she was nowhere near her potential in size. I tasted the juice from one of the fan leaves I could taste the salt build up. Give it a try see what you think. If the leaf petiole tastes watery you’re good, a little bit bitter is also ok but if it’s like your tounge touching a 9v battery > definitely too high nutrient levels. You clearly know what you’re doing just my 2c bro✌️🏻

Sounds normal to me. You might want to try feeding at 1/2 of the recommended strength. That may work better for you. Good luck!

DudeGrowsWeedcommented7 years ago
@TOTEM, She looks super healthy in the pics and video. Maybe Big Mike is right about PPM with the Perfect PH products. 3100 seems a little scary to me. But I don’t see any signs of nutrient burn. You could also continue at full strength then back down if you start seeing any signs of nutrient burn. Yellowing leaf tips is typically the first sign of nutrient burn. Back down if you start to see that.

@DudeGrowsWeed, Will definitely do this way. It’s very strange because I think it’s something related to their PH Perfect formula and buffer they use. I tried adding nutes a little at a time and noticed that, starting from 670 ppm, PPM level immediately jumped to 1170 after the next batch of nutes (4ml of Connoisseur A+B, and 2ml of the additives I’m using). Advanced Nutrients told me to not care about PPM: “When using our pH perfect line of nutrients, There tend to be many other components besides dissolved fertilizer in the water. (eg. pH buffers, humic and fulvic acid, amino acids etc...) Because of this, an electrical conductivity (EC, TDS, PPM) reading can be difficult for the grower to properly ascertain. Instead of reading the PPM/EC, we recommend following our nutrient calculator, but starting off at 1/4 strength of your base nutrient for small clones and seedlings, gradually working your way to full strength as the plant matures over a period of 3-4 weeks.”

DudeGrowsWeedcommented7 years ago
@TOTEM, Wow. I didn't notice the 3100 ppm from last week. That's super high. Around 1200 should really be the maximum in my opinion. My best suggestion would be to use less than Advanced Nutrients recommends in the future.

What was your dry weight? @totem
TOTEM
TOTEMcommented6 years ago
@Ironlungs, in reality I got 298g, but reported 300g because I took some small buds (and a bigger one) away from the plant on last week before harvest, in order to try their first smoke.... I just rounded up a little
TOTEM
TOTEMcommented6 years ago
@Ironlungs, 300g dry! After the trim I was so destroyed I never found the strenght and the will to open the grow box and weigh them for at least 10 days..... so no wet weight unfortunately!

And another one... sick grow dude and great review! My thoughts exactly re: scrogging a plant you know well. My first scrog has gotten a little outta control due to lack of knowledge on the stretch and strain characteristics. That said, haze strains like yours are always the bomb and I would strongly recommend Jack Herer if you’re looking for another big stretch sativa- just a quality strain all around! Keep up the good work homey - looking forward to your next grow! 👍👊

The advance full schedule has been created thinking on the U.S.A regular way of growing (1000w hps)who requires higher amounts of nutrients, with less than 1000 watts u must create your own schedule, anyways u did a great job mate!

Hey totem is this first time doing a scrog? Did you use all the same sized wire screen? I think I see a couple in the picture? I'm trying to find a good way of keeping my girls a little shorter and supported. The plant looks amazing, great job on this diary.
Experimentgreen
Experimentgreencommented7 years ago
@TOTEM, well...they're just getting so damn big, and I've passed the point of much lst, I actually split a branch trying. So now the goal is to attempt to shorten them, and possibly round them out. Including the pots they're in...they've easily outgrown my height. So I'm just looking into lots of other grows in hopes something will spark a plan. Thanks for answering and giving me a little more info on your style this grow. 😊

TOTEMcommented7 years ago
@Experimentgreen, Hey bro, sorry for the delay but I was on vacation. Yup, first time doing scrog and followed a lot of tutorials before trying. I used the same metal grid (90x90cm) for both the floor and the scrog net. You could try with a homemade scrog net and place on your plants. I think that could work. If you tell me what’s your idea about it, I can try helping you bro!
