Germination
First grow here, but I’ve done outdoor organic vegetable gardening for years. Hopefully, that experience pays off. Germinated in a paper towel then transplanted into Happy Frog soil. Light is set at 50% power. Soil was amended(2tbls/gallon of substrate w/ Dr Earth fertilizer-45%veg, 45% bloom, 10% AP, 1/2c worm castings) and cooked two weeks prior to transplant. Reading these grow diaries have been a lot of help, so I started my own in hopes that it might help others.

Fertilized this week with two tablespoons per gallon of substrate(Dr Earth fertilizer-45% veg, 45% bloom, 10% AP, 1/2c worm castings) and started some LST. My tent is in my garage so I had to add a window AC and dehumidifier to help control the environment as summer starts to ramp up.

Slowly increasing the power on the light to 75% and dialing the the optimal distance from the canopy. Watering when dry every few days. They’re really starting to stretch now. It’s incredible how quickly they grow at this stage.

Still low stress training and watering in about 1.5 gallons of water every 3-4 days. I broke the main stem on the biggest plant but repaired it with tape. It recovered and showed no signs of stress.

Looking great! I think the stretch is starting to slow down and I added Recharge this week along with another round of fertilization(2tbls/gallon of substrate w/ Dr Earth fertilizer-70% bloom, 30% veg, 1/2c worm castings). I cleaned up the bottom of the canopy with some light defoliation. Still watering 1.5 gallons per plant every 3-4 days, but they’re definitely getting more thirsty. The light is now at 100% power.

Buds are swelling quickly and the tent is filling out. They’re starting to develop a fair amount of trichomes and that generic vegetal weed smell is transforming into an intoxicating sour citrus/tropical fruit scent. I was surprised to get a little nutrient burn after top dressing and the first application of Recharge, but that hasn’t slowed them down a bit. I also switched to a more consistent watering schedule(1 gal/plant every two days) and so far, they seem to like it.

I gave a final dose of Recharge at the beginning of the week and ended the week with a hefty defoliation. Fungus gnats started to become an issue, but I think I’m starting to get them under control. They have also developed what I assume is some kind of cal-mag deficiency. I suspect this came about when I gave my first couple doses of Recharge because I didn’t realize I was supposed to pH my water BEFORE adding Recharge. Consequently, the soil got drenched with over a gallon of highly acidic water a couple times. I have also noted that the plants aren’t nearly as fragrant as the previous two weeks and I expected the exact opposite. Hopefully things will start to turn around, but they still seem to be happy and healthy other than the previously stated issues. Originally, I thought I had one smaller plant because I had stunted it as a seedling(mild light burn and knocked it over while watering), but it’s becoming more apparent that these are two different phenos. The smaller plant has a noticeably more indica-like structure with denser buds and a bright tropical fruit scent. The larger plant has lighter colored fan leaves and smells like dank citrus and bad breath. 😆

Big Bloom - Fox Farm
Big Bloom 15.625 mll
It’s getting close to harvest time and they’re starting to fade a bit. Trichomes are at about 75% cloudy/25% clear with some scattered light amber on a few of the sugar leaves. The smaller plant will finish first, so the larger plant will probably have to finish outside while the smaller one dries in the tent. I’ve had to start staking the branches because many of the buds are leaning from packing on the weight. The buds appear to be fairly dense, so I anticipate a generous harvest. They both got a couple light feedings of Fox Farm Big Bloom this past week. I was hoping this might help boost some frost and terpene production as they finish. Maybe I’m just used to the smell, but they still seem like they aren’t as loud as they should be. The big girl doesn’t have nearly as much frost or scent compared to the small one, however it isn’t quite as mature yet. I’m guessing they’ll need to be harvested about a week apart from each other.

Last update before harvest. They’re fading fast and really bulking up! Trichs are 90% cloudy/10% clear and a few amber on the main colas. I’m going to put them in the dark for about 48 hours at the first sign of any amber on the smaller colas. Thanks for checking out my grow! 👊

Week 11. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

After 4 weeks of cure, I’ve had a chance to sample enough for an honest review. Though I did make a few mistakes in this grow, both plants grew very well and the yield was far more than I expected. Other than having similar bud structures, they turned out much different. The largest pheno produced lots of huge, beautiful colas that were medium dense, wiry buds typical of a sativa dominant variety. Unfortunately, this monster never developed much of a terpene profile and even at harvest time it only had a very light, slightly pungent vegetal smell. The potency is modest and feels like a 50/50 hybrid that might even have a decent amount of CBD. I’m going to give this one a few more weeks of cure, but if things don’t seem like they improve, I’ll be using this for edibles. It’s possible that it could have developed more terpenes if I let it go another week, but I’m very confident the trichomes were at peak ripeness at the time of harvest. Overall, I give this one 6 stars only because it was a big producer and grew like a champion. It’s just a bummer it turned to be a huge bounty of great looking bud that smells and smokes like Reggie. The smaller pheno smells like sweet tropical candy and the flavor is the same with hint of pine. The buzz to me also feels like a 50/50 hybrid, but far more potent that her bigger sister. I’m very pleased with the quality of this pheno so I’ll give it 8 stars. In conclusion, it was a fun grow and I certainly learned a lot, but likely wouldn’t grow this strain again unless it was from a different breeder. They were both easy to grow and were able to weather my newb mistakes with ease, but the inconsistencies turned me off. I’m sure I’m mostly to blame for lack of quality for the big pheno, but I feel strongly that genetics also had a hand in the result of the final product because both plants were so vastly different despite receiving the same treatment.

Chopped them down on day 78 after putting them in the dark for 48 hours. There was definitely an increase in resin, but not a dramatic difference. For all I know, it could have just been routine late flower resin production. I would have liked to let them go a couple more days, but I had to go out of town and I would rather not run the risk of letting them mature too much. It is called Green Crack after all, not Green Couch😏 The trichomes were almost all cloudy with a small amount of clear and amber on nearly all the main bud sites. I thought the smaller pheno was going to finish a week early, but the big girl picked up the pace and finished right on time. I have the AC Infinity set for 50-55% RH and the temps should stay around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ll update in the coming weeks with a final weight and post-cure smoke report. Thanks for following along! ✌️ *UPDATE* After three days of drying, I increased the RH to 60%. The temp stays between 67-72 degrees Fahrenheit. They’re starting to smell a little like hay, but I did leave a lot of leaves on them. I’m not overly concerned because the buds still feel moist and from the research I’ve done, this can be common. The buds smell fantastic when squeezed, so I assume they’ll turn out fine after a good cure. *UPDATE* Final weight: 8.75oz Plant 1: 52g Plant 2: 158g I trimmed after 10 days of dry time. The buds are on the airy side and dried a little too much. RH in the jars is between 55-58%. I added a fresh trimmed leaf to each jar to get the RH above 60%. Final post-cure review to follow after a couple weeks of curing.

Hey man, amazing grow! I've just started my first ever grow with green crack, do you have any advice? Was LST and defoliation worth it? I read not to do LST on autos. Thanks!
CultivateIT
CultivateITcommented4 years ago
@alexgrowsweed, Thanks dude! They were super leafy, so defoliation was absolutely necessary. Trimming was a nightmare too. I think they need plenty of room to grow, so if space is an issue, LST is a must. Neither plant seemed to be negatively affected by either technique and I think it absolutely increased my yield.
