Germination
I started 2 seeds by soaking them in a glass of water for 14 hours, then transferring them to a paper towel - both had 1/4in tap roots. I then put them straight into a 3gal and 5gal fabric pot. They took roughly 48 hours to sprout. My wife attempted to de-shell the 3gal and ended up slicing one of the Cotyledon's straight down the middle. Its now yellowing pretty bad and its not going to make it. I started another seed by soaking for 14 hours, and putting it in a jiffy pellet (wanted to try another method). Soil: 1lb Natures Living Soil, mixed with Fox Farm Ocean Forest in bottom 1/3, then filled with FFOF. Took 1 cup out of middle and mixed 50/50 FFOF/Light Warrior Temp: 70-76 RH: 55-65% EDIT: Started #3 because neither of the first two grew properly. The first one was given away to someone to nurse because the leaf was split trying to de-helmet her. She is still a runt at day 24. The second was put directly into some light warrior and Ocean Forest - seems it was too much nitrogen.

I cut the jiffy pot net off and placed it in a 4in pot with 100% Fox Farm Happy Frog. Removing the netting was so the roots wouldnt have issues. Honestly, no idea if it matters but I saw some pictures online where it has constricted the root ball. A negative result is that the Jiffy pellet started falling apart and split down the middle. This may make transplanting more difficult for a noob like me - I am afraid it was crumble as I try to remove it...we shall see. Growth looks good. Its got a bit of mottling on the leaves.

I have posted a Day 5 picture to my diary - it seems to me the seedling is a slow grower, and the leaves are dark green. Does it seem like typical day 5 growth? I am wondering if the FFOF is a little too hot? A lot of other seedlings look to be a lighter shade of green.

This week was filled with anxiety. Problem 1: There is white mold on the top layer of my soil! Time to freak out! 2 hrs of Google seem to reveal it was a 'harmless' saprophytic fungus. It basically decomposes the joint. I still got worried about it and sprinkled some Cinnamon on the top of the Peat (jiffy pellet) - didnt seems to do much to be honest. Then I used 2 tbsp of H2O2 with 1 or 2 cups of water (cant remember) - I only did this because I would be transplanting soon and I would also be using Recharge, since the H2O2 is going to kill the good guys too. Problem 2: Few more fungus gnats. I have had them since the beginning. Only a few, maybe 6 total. Added another yellow trap. Problem 3: There are white bug things in my soil! Time to freak out! First bag of Fox Farms Happy Frog was infected with Springtails. I had bought another bag that also had them. Decided I will grow along with them - no need to nuke. Problem 4: Ok, now after transplanting, there are tiny white-ish/brown-ish mite looking things in my soil. Time to freak out! Looks like they are Hypoaspis miles mites - or something similar. First seen them 3 days ago and the plant has remained unaffected. I will only attempt to nuke them if they are obviously killing the plant - otherwise I will let them be since I have not seen them on the plant itself. I would expect to see spider mites on the plant, if that's what they are. If they are predator mites, they will control the springtails/fungus gnats. Maybe this is why I havent seen anymore gnats. 5Gal is bottom 1/3 Ocean Forest + Natures Living Soil Autoflower Concentrate, then 10%-ish perlit + FFHF for the remaining 2/3-ish Watering about 100ml every 3 days The Day 24 stunted girl is still growing very very slowly. My wife wont let me chop it, but its clearly not going to produce much. At this point, she was a good teacher and will be awarded the Silver Star once she passes.

Any opinions on when I should transplant this Day 12 guy? Some say 4-5 leaves, some 7, some less. I only see one small root out of the bottom, but its hard to see - the holes aren't huge. I am thinking of going to a 3gal, or a 5gal.

Transplant now, into a 5 gallon, would be my advice. The pots you are using are really only big enough for 10-14 days. Filling them right up to the top next time would aid in root development and help prevent any chance of stunting them. I usually transplant when they get to the third node, forth node maximum. Cheers, Organoman.

Another question. I appreciate everyone's response to the last ones. I am finding it difficult to google this one. When do I switch my LED to 100%? Currently, I am running it at roughly 60% at about 24in. Am I in 'true' veg? Its working on its 3rd node that has 5 fingers.

Lower it to 18", and bump in up 10% per day until you see the tips start to stress. Light stress looks like nute burn but the tips dont turn down, they just yellow right at the tip. Hope this helps, good luck with your grow!

Day 14-18: She seems to have recovered from the transplant and is growing fast. Watering about 300ml at day 16. I water in a circle around her to match the diameter of the leaves. From my research the horizontal roots typically match the canopy width. I will increase to 500ml next watering. Day 18-20: Increased light to 100% on day 19. Temps rose to 85 degrees so I backed it off slightly, maybe back to 90%. Still getting roughly 700 PPFD at 22in-ish. Watered 500ml day 19. Will increase to 600-700ml next. I may also be doing some LST soon. I am a bit nervous as she is still short relative to the pot. If I put a tie from the side of the pot to her stem, it will be at a 90 degree angle - I would prefer a 45 degree angle. I may just let her grow and not LST, still deciding. I am finding it difficult to maintain a consistent temp/humidity. If I close the AC vent in the bathroom where the room is located, it gets too hot. if I leave it open, every time the AC comes on, the temp does down the the humidity up. You can see it in the graph I posted. I figure it will adapt to the up/down, but its not ideal. I also need to turn my humidifier off when its lights out or it gets to almost 70%. I need to try and automate this...maybe with another timer.

Day 30: watered 1200ml + 200ml Recharge Day 32: I wasn't going to LST, but I am only able to raise the light another inch, so I have no choice but to bend her over. I didn't account for the fact that I decided not to LST, but then I thought, nah, there is still plenty of room, once I did the calculations. What I didn't calculate was the fact that I cant move the light all the way up because he runs into the exhaust fan etc. oh well. Day 34: Watered 1300ml + 300ml Recharge

is it OK to keep bending her main stem over during flower? It wouldn't be a big deal but I am running out of room to keep raising the light. She a good 4 inches above the rest. See Day 34 pic

Yeah bro bend away.. I agree with organoman - around 3-4 weeks in they won’t recover or bend back towards the light really anymore like they would normally in veg or early flower. Even if you got to after that, it’s the only thing you can do sometimes to have space in your tent - I’ve bent colas over to 90 degrees (“supercropping”) late in flower with no real issue

Around Day 45ish i noticed the first yellowing leaf near the bottom of the plant. Deff also have some nute burn on tips. it seems she has had slight nute burn pretty much the whole grow. Very deep green shiny leaves etc., from a lot of nitrogen. Its an organic grow, haven't fed her anything other than natures living soil, so i am not worrying about it for now. Some of it is also some light burn from up'ing the PPFD a bit early weeks ago. Pretty uneventful week, just watering. She drinks about 1800ml every 2 days now. I Recharge every other watering - 300-400ml.

Around Day 50 I started seeing some yellowing leaves/burnt tips etc. Wasn't sure if it was a nute excess/deficiency/pH problem etc. In the pursuit of science I went ahead and flushed a small amount of water out of the pot (less than 200ml, used about 2400ml). Came out pH 5.9ish 720ppm. I then put another 300ml of water through in and the SMALL amount of water that came out - barely enough for a reading - pH 5.9ish 1050ppm. pH seems slightly low, although theoretically, if the textbooks are right, the soil microbes can feed a range of nutes at a pretty wide range of pH. In any event, good to know. In hindsight, I wish I would have flushed with 6.8 pH water instead of 6.3 I will just monitor and use pH 6.8 water next watering. Day 53: Flushed with 6.8 ph water, about 4000ml - run off 6.1-6.2. Added 8oz of Recharge

This week was stressful. Started seeing a lot of yellowing and signs of an issue. After online research I was even more confused. I ended up going with a nutrient deficiency vs. an excess. I ordered some GH Maxigro (recommended by someone) even though its a 'veg' nute. Fed 5.5g/gal + 2.5ml of Fox Farms CAL-MAG/gal. About 1000ppm. I believe the leaf damage has stopped and she looks a better deeper green.

Its been difficult to feed her correctly in Soil since measuring runoff isnt applicable unless you are running a soilless medium. On top of that, the fabric pots collect a lot of soil debris that sticks to the bottom, so when water comes out, it collects some debris which will obviously increase the EC measurement. In any event, she's alive. I will be harvesting on Day 90. Its a bit early but I prefer the 'Up' high vs. Couch lock.

Any opinions on whether I should harvest based on the pics I posted. A lot of people will say, NOT YET, wait until all the hairs are orange, then you read on some sites that say 100% orange is too late. I prefer the 'up' high vs couch lock. Trichomes are clear/milky with a few am

I am shocked at how beautiful these nugs are...I have never seen so many fat nugs in my life. Sticky, dense. I can wait until they are dried and cured. Update: found some mold on 4 of my nicest nugs, so i trashed them. A real shame. I had to go away for a few days and i think it was a combo of having dense colas, with a humidity around 60%. Live and learn for next grow. Still have plenty left.
